Overwatch wins Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2016

Glad overwatch won.

All the UC4 salt though, really? It was just UC3 but a little better. They made the same game 4 times.

I love uncharted, but come the fuck on.

Overwatch feels like the biggest gaming event of the year. I think it was destined for success from the start with the great character designs. Helps that it's also really fun to play.

Pretty interesting that 3 of the nominees released really close to each other in May. DOOM and Overwatch were like palate cleansers for Uncharted 4, which was probably my most disappointing game of the year.

Good to see this happen. It's been a while since a game has been such an overwhelming phenomenon out of nowhere.

As a huge FPS fan the core game mechanics felt really bad outside of a couple of characters, but I can absolutely see why people are so rabid over it. I know they've been improving hitboxes/tickrates and the like so maybe I'll give it a go again at some point.

I personally wouldn't have even put it in the top 5.

Because it does not deserve GOTY, a GOTY should be balanced for all players not for people who only like online shooters

GOTY nominees usually get picked up because they're the top of their genres, not considering Overwatch just because it's a multiplayer only isn't fair. You should really explain your point for why you don't think multiplayer games should be nominated.

If any MP-only game has ever deserved GOTY, it was Overwatch.

As far as UC4 goes- I feel like in general sequels that aren't major upgrades/game-changers over the existing franchise have a disadvantage in things like this. UC4 was great, but it wasn't a massive leap over the previous games, if only because those games already executed on the core formula so well that UC4 had very little room to improve. This is also the main reason why DA:I won out over Bayonetta 2 and Dark Souls 2 in 2014- the latter two were arguably better "objectively", but Inquisition was more of an evolution over DA2 (if only because DA2 was so fucked) than DS2/B2 were over their predecessors.

Yes in my opinion, would never suggest this as a fact, every game has there own opinion hell I am sure someone somewhere out there really loved haze

So then it's perfectly ok that Overwatch won the GOTY from this event because it was based on other people's opinions.

To me multip]ayer games lack something that single player games have, no idea what it is though but with multiplayer I just get bored fast

Just like if Uncharted 4 had won some people would have crawled out the woodwork and bitched about that, its just the nature of gamers

But, overwatch is awesome? What would a single player overwatch even be? Would counterstrike be better as single player? Wow? Counterstrike? LoL? Every sports game?

I wonder if I will ever get back into online shooters. Because I haven't felt the desire to even play them, more or less, I feel like I might be missing out on a great experience like Overwatch, Titanfall 2, etc.

Sometimes I feel somewhat sad that I'm ignorant to a significant portion of the industry.

Yo dawg, just because you don't like multiplayer games doesn't mean single player is better. Plenty of people only play multiplayer. Not even me, I'm a narrative sp guy all the way, but overwatch stole my heart this year.

Cheers love the cavalries here. But seriously to the people hating the party is over. Are you really going to go on the internet and waste your time hating on a game for game of the year? How embarrassing. But it's okay. It makes me want to hug you like a big fat Siberian bear.

I mean give me a break. You guys just have to face facts here. Blizzard created an amazing game what more do you want? They're not miracle workers. Well not always. And I get you wanted, whatever game you wanted, to win. Now you're freaking out. Happens to the best of us. But...why are you so angry? It's not like this game is a 6 or a 7. Or an 8. Hell I give it a 10!

It's okay. That game you're thinking of is still great. This year it just made some go まだまだ. And Blizzard fans won't throw it in your face. They won't go around saying "I'm number 1!" Going forward learn from the pain. And I appreciate everyone's passion. To each and every one of you I salute you. At the end of the day we're all animals anyway right? Trust me I know what I'm talking about. I'm Swedish.

Peace and blessings be upon you all.

I really liked Overwatch but it got old pretty quick for me, everyone we played with stopped playing a month after launch.

Still playing TF2 though almost a decade later.

Well deserved, and congrats to the team! Multiplayer games don't usually keep my attention for that long, but Overwatch is always pulling me back in. This also reminds me that I need to start my placements for season 3 :)

Fuck I was waiting for s 3 to start, I guess I'll be going back now.

Man, that game is just too much fun.

Isn't this like one of 200 GOTY awards to be given out? Why are folks so amped up either way?

Overwatch winning as a hugely popular multi platform game shouldn't be shocking or upsetting.

Overwatch deserves that award sorry people but it's a very great game. You should at least try the game. Believe me I really don't play MP games I play mostly RPG games and Yeah it's addicting.

Honestly even though I was rooting for Uncharted 4, I'm satisfied that it won Narrative and Performance. Overwatch is one of a kind when compared to all the other noms (sorry Doom) so I guess it makes sense for it to be GOTY.

Yep. I don't play mp games at all usually, but ive put more than 100 hrs into it. Amazing game.

This reminds me of when the game launched and people were all "no single player? What idiots"

Just blows my mind that people can't accept the fact that every game isn't the same.

Diversity is good people! We can't all just play rpgs and character action games.

I ain't mad. It's a great game, so well deserved.

Yeah I'm a single player only type of guy, but I've put a lot of hours into Overwatch because it's just so much fun. Only other MP only game I played almost as much was TF2 during the first 2 years of its release (before it became a mess imo).

Well fucking deserved. People on this board sometimes get so obsessed with talking about games as an art form and means of in depth social commentary and representation that they forget the number one thing about games: they're supposed to be fun. And that's why Overwatch won.

Bravo.

Definitely give Overwatch a shot, they offer free weekends from time to time.

I haven't really played MP shooters since CS/UT/Q3/Halo2 either and completely skipped the whole Call of Duty era of MP game because they absolutely had no appeal to me.

Overwatch is just a ton of fun, everything from the maps to the characters is well designed. It also feels like playing a team-sport; You don't have to care about KD-Ratio per se, just try to be a good team-player and experiment with different characters.
