While respecting the source, do you know anything about this obscure returning character ala are the moves similar, etc without revealing anything major
Even mentioning if they don't use a weapon is too much haha

Maybe it's Trish since I think we all assumed she's cut.

He said a veteran that he was surprised was picked in MvC3.

Haggar wasn't a veteran. Strider wasn't an obscure pick. He was one of the most requested.

Arthur's back yo
Don't play with my heart, I think now they'd be a veteran after being in MvC3.

It's nice that it might be bigger than 24 though.

This thread has been amazing so far. This gif has made it even better.

No, a veteran I'd consider one of the more obscure Capcom picks in MvC3.

Lets see here.

Arthur
Firebrand
Haggar

These are the only obscure characters this day and age I would consider in the MVC3 roster.

Strider had a new game this gen.
Okami still gets a lot of random things from capcom
Viewtiful Joe had a lot of games prior
The Darkstalkers get a lot of cameo appearances.
Bionic Commando just hit 1 million sales and had all those games last gen

The only thing these 3 characters have gotten in ages are arcade releases in capcom collections and Virtual Console ports.

Tron? Trish?

You guys are ridiculous. (Not that I blame you, but still...)
I appreciate your sacrifice made to set my fears at ease.

Trish was in DMC 1 and 4. She's pretty prominent especially with the recent playable special edition. Wouldn't count her as Obscure.

MAYBE Tron. Like i'm on the fence and could fall either way on that one.
Ah- didn't realize she was in 4.

Tron had her own game but like that was forever ago and Legends is one of the least known Mega Man's.

I'd put my money on Firebrand. To me he is by far the most obscure character on the roster.
Even with his multitude of GB games and Demons Crest, they were all such small titles. They rarely even get brought up here on a hardcore enthusiast forum.

How disappointing if it's Nemesis

Not disappointing since he adds a much needed villain role to the roster.
Plus since he's a monster he adds some uniqueness as well. That's before even talking about his heavy potential.
Always obscure I wouldn't say for nemesis.

Resident Evil 3 is capcoms 11th best selling title at 3.5 million units.
He was also in a movie that went to theaters and grossed over 129 million.

So he's far from obscure.

Such a shame that a once near-mascotte level character like Arthur would actually have to be considered obscure these days... And that after Ghosts 'n Goblins was included in the Nes Classic lineup. Sad but true I guess, and now that I think about it, maybe Firebrand is even more likely / obscure by extension.

Amaterasu and Viewtiful Joe might qualify as well, depending on how loosely you interpret "veteran".

All that said, if Dusk Golem is indeed correct about the game using the MCU actor's likenesses instead of Capcom's tried and true, usually great cartoony interpretations of these characters, my interest in MVC4 is dwindling rapidly anyway. I don't need more realistic proportions, natural lighting and dark color palettes in fighting games (which were the reasons I never really managed to get into the new KI or newer MK games). Cartoony and colorful or bust imo. Getting really curious and more than a little bit anxious how the game will look at this stage.

Firebrand has been in a lot of VS titles tho. Arthur was more unprecedented.

Firebrand would be great.

There's not really a single character you could point to that'd be universally hated from the MvC3 roster unfortunately, there's some more niche favorites but generally the cast was pretty solid with some good variety, plus the characters were all from something before to give added likability.

I like Nemesis. ;3;

I would personally cut Spencer, Taskmaster, and that version of Jill immediately.

Are there seriously only 24 characters?

2v2 and a slim roster would kill my interest in this tbh. I don't need 8 million Darkstalkers waifus but the variety allowing characters like Taskmaster, MODOK, Amaterasu and Dormammu were what made MvC3 charming.

I know about a pretty obscure character on the Capcom side coming back -- someone who would seem really out of place in a "smaller roster." I'm not saying we're getting 50+ characters, but I'd be shocked to see this specific character in a roster of 24.

So it is a 24 roster?
