Ubisoft has confirmed in a shareholder meeting that it is working on a new first-person Ghost Recon game.

The news comes from a new report by Stephen Totilo's Game File (subscription is highly encouraged), where Yves Guillemot confirmed in a shareholder meeting that a new Ghost Recon game is in development.

During the meeting, Yves Guillemot discussed the success of Rainbow Six Siege as an example of the company's expertise in live service games.

Yves said, "our objective is to also make strong progress in the growing market, generally speaking, by continuing to enhance our current experiences that we offer—and capitalizing on upcoming launches, such as The Division and Ghost Recon."

Soon after, Ubisoft's CFO Frederick Duguet answered a question about how Ubisoft will use its investment from Tencent, to which he said that it will be "used for future development of other major brand names. So we've got… Ghost Recon is just one example, for our first-person-shooter-type games." He added, "And we also want to boost our live games," such as The Crew and For Honor.

More Ghost Recon Details

For those out of the loop of Ghost Recon, Insider Gaming has already reported that the next Ghost Recon, codenamed Ovr is the next mainline title in the franchise.

Project Ovr is set during a fictional Naiman War, played in 1st person, and takes heavy inspiration from the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare series. Footage sent to Insider Gaming under the condition it does not go public showed something somewhat akin to Ready or Not.

In a report released in June, we also announced that Ghost Recon will enter its internal alpha later this year. The timelines suggest that the game could launch in late 2026.

heres to hoping. i love military shooters but seems like they have all disappeared. remember on the PS3/360 days there was a new one like every month. frontlines, cod, battlefield, medal of honor, home front, GRAW, Rainbow 6, ... ah the good ol days.
i really like wild lands but its way more fun with friends.

Haven't played a Ghost Recon game in ages. Was the last 2 open world games any good? At the time I thought they looked like a mash-up of Far Cry and AC with added gadgets.

Is it an open game like Ghost Recon Wildlands?

Hard pass. Third person view was the way to go.
I would not be surprised if that ubi exec guy simply didn't make distinction between first and third person and lumped GR there eventhough it will have third person.

Plus when you aim down sight, both previous games go to first person iirc.

Ghost Recon Breakpoint is one hell of a game in it's current form. One of the only games that can transition from straight arcade, loot shooter run and gun to a fun mil sim with only a flip of a (some) switch (es) and it works.

Just add some variety to the gameplay loop (different missions), work on a more polished single player content and and they are good to go.

Wildlands was their most successful Ghost Recon game by a country mile and it drives me insane how they refuse to make a sequel to that.

I really doubt Ubisoft will be able to make another good Ghost Recon again.
Especially when they are so focused on GaaS, microtransactions and milking their player base.

Please don't make R6 Siege MP only game FFS. I love AW games on PC, but I hope they'll make a 3rd person like in Future Soldier as an option too.

Yet again, 3rd person tactical shooters get shot on. GR sucks in 1st person mode. We have a shit ton of first perspective shooters and other genres. This is a hard no for me.
