FFXV's future updates adjust chapters, add cutscenes, add playable characters, more

The disconnect here is that you seem to be looking at this as SE being completely satisfied with the game they were trying to make and now, they're trying to bend over for the fans. A whole lot of other people see this as SE having released this game far too early without crucial elements being finished.

I'm not sure what position is correct but it doesn't invalidate the way people feel.

You mean a group of people on GAF, which constitutes less than one percent of gamers? That's not a whole lot of people. But I digress.

I think it's good they're fixing it but thy would have to drastically change and shortern Chapter 13 for me to ever want to play through the game again to pick up all the new story scenes. It would seriously need to go from a 3 hour chapter to an hour max.

Have you people never played PC games before or something? I don't see what the big deal is, ya'll are acting like a bunch of babies and it's really off-putting

I mean yikes

They were adjusting scenes even the day before release. When I played the ending there is a scene at the end that plays out differently than what people would have seen now. I got more shafted by playing the game before its release date but I'm still open to improvements.

What was different there?

It's not like RPGs are new to this. No one else remember International Editions?

http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/International_Version

The only difference now is that it's free and we get to join Japanese fans in lamenting that they got an unfinished version of the game.

I'm really ok with the patches though. Happy in fact.

That's the way I'm looking at it. SE has a history of doing stuff like this, but for the first time, they're doing it for free and just updating the game we already own instead of releasing a second version only in Japan.

"The damage is done"

Lol.

My life cannot revolve around re-playing this game to get the 'full experience', sorry. I typically don't play RPG's more than once, especially on the same hardware.

So yes, the damage is done - anyone who has played the game within some reasonable timeframe from release date got a lesser experience, to the point where the narrative makes either no sense or not a lot of sense.

Unless you're the kind of person who is like "starting my 8th run through chrono trigger this year - what a gem!" or aren't a fan of the series who is waiting for a price drop or for the eventual PC release, these changes are too little too late.

The only way to make this retroactively somewhat useful is if they added a theater mode to rewatch cutscenes, and tie the new cutscenes to old ones so you can go back and watch them as if they were there in the first place.

Patch Crowe into the game.

Why people act like crowe was this badass and deep woman? just because luna wasn't that good? Crowe was barely in the movie and did nothing that amazing, the only kingsglaive who truly shined was nyx, he deserved a game

.......wut

I'm saying if they wanted to 'cater to me' they should've finished the story elements before taking my money for the game. Fixing it later does absolutely nothing to 'cater to me'. If I had known about this I never would've bought or played the game in the first place. If companies want to 'cater to me' all they have to do is release a completed product before they take my money. We're used to small changes and bug fixes but this isn't like that at all.

I'm having a blast playing, early in chapter 9 at around 34 1/2 hours. I'll just keep in trucking. I don't care about the story much anyway so I'll just YouTube the new cutscenes when they come out as I doubt I'll do another playthrough or care enough to reload old saves.

Yeah this I agree with. For all of those who feel they got shafted then it's on SE. What they are doing is something I'm happy with, but it doesnt mean that it will make everyone happy.

I think the best way to handle this is to have a sort of gallery/cutscene viewer like Dissidia and some of the KH games have (no idea if it already has one), and put the new scenes in there as well as in the main game for people who don't have time to replay the full game from scratch or in NG+ just to see a few added cutscenes.

Yeah they kind of have to do this right? I mean, I think I'll be beating the game by this weekend.

Yeah but this is some hyperbole junk running this thread. Instead of any iota of eagerness or remote happiness about the game getting fixes, folks are just call it a wasted effort to an already irredeemable game that robbed people of their hard-earned dollars.

Feedback is good, and it's great we live in a generation that can patch this stuff in without needing a "director's cut" or whatever.

"Fantasy based on Feedback" is...actually a good thing, no?

As multiple people have said before, you don't get props for fixing something that should be in the game to begin with. It's been, what, one week since release and they're already talking about adding multiple scenes to the second half of the game?

Getting a better game down the line is a good thing, I am not arguing that, I think nobody is. But how is it so hard to understand that the rollout of the game and these patches makes it less desirable for people, especially those that gave Square-Enix the benefit of the doubt and were there day one?

No need to be hostile towards people who are upset about the changes. Some people wanna experience the full thing their first time.

I've had the game sitting on the side since it came out (needed to watch Brotherhood & Kingsglaive first). Now I'm thinking I'll just unwrap it on Christmas Day. I already have the Last Guardian to play, plus Dishonored 2 & DOOM. I'll probably finish those 3 before Christmas whereas FFXV can take me up to a month depending on how much I really want to get into it.

Why people act like crowe was this badass and deep woman? just because luna wasn't that good? Crowe was barely in the movie and did nothing that amazing, the only kingsglaive who truly shined was nyx, he deserved a game

I think it's just there was potential with her and it's not like there was much else in terms of female characters. I thought she could have been an interesting character, but she was gone before you know it, lol.

The only other female in that film was Luna, and well, her characterization is just really questionable.

I was just waiting to see if they would fix the frame pacing issue. Had no idea they were adding even more story cutscenes to the end to make more sense. They could have been a tad more upfront about it though.

Still, like I said, glad I waited.

Holy fuck. I just completed the chapter and almost the game...

I always thought the story was all over and nothing made sense. Horrible work from the story director of the game.

This patch is needed so badly but it should have been in the game from day one for fuck sake.

What I'm getting here is I should put the game down for a while and come back post patch. There's no way I'm doing a second play through.

I thought that with this admission of what so many people who have beat it realised - that they shipped a completely unfinished game and that chapter 13 is bollocks - people would wake up a bit to the game's issues. The people who continue to defend the game and the state it launched in the light of this announcement are embarassing imo.

But I'm the one who spent 70 euros and 30 hours playing a shite early access open world game and I'll never get the 'proper' experience so I'm the loser here for sure.

Sorry, sorry shit from square.

What the fuck were the reviewers smoking? They really let me down on this one.

I think the rest of us are saying they deserve partial props for doing it. They could have just left it as is, and not have received any of this blowback for announcing they intend to add this new stuff. That was a thing that could have happened.

So, half-props for Square-Enix. Yaaaaaay...

All the more reason for waiting until the GOTY edition, I'm excited about the potential of added characters! I think Nirolak was right about playing sometime in Winter 2017 / Spring 2018.

Does adding playable characters really mean adding guest characters?

honestly for this one they could be talking about multiplayer or post-game stuff.. but I'd certainly be open to selectable guest party members if that's something they want to do.

I am happy that they are doing this. I too would have preferred that they simply take more time before releasing the game, but if they can add in scenes so that characters aren't dying off screen and improve the gameplay of what is arguably the worst part of the game as a whole.. then more power to them. I'll enjoy a new game+ playthrough after they complete their work.

They should also add a scene (ch 5-6 spoilers)
showing what happened to Jared and the other people from Lestallum that the imperials killed.. build up the player's hatred of the empire by showing them kill civilians

Great news!

Love the game, just a bit disappointed of how some parts of the story were presented (not presented at all).

Now I can spend the next couple of years casually booting up FFXV to try out the new stuff from the future updates until FFVII remake is out. ;)

I'm near the end and I doubt I'll play through it again just to get a slightly improved story experience, the open world stuff is where I've had most of my fun anyway. Kind of annoying. And indicative of where the game is at story wise and they know it. They're treating it like it's an MMORPG and this release period was the beta or something. But good for people that will pick it up in the future I suppose.

This is great news. The game is already my GOTY and I'll be playing through it multiple times anyway.

Cannot wait for these. :3

Despite bringing Hajime on to the contrary, I can see this getting a sequel/spinoff. May as well make use of luminous engine.

I am really enjoying the game as is. This is just annoying now that I'm mid play through. Should I stop? I am at Chapter 5. I don't want to stop playing but it sounds like I should.

I don't think I've seen anyone describe her as such. We barely got to know her.

I don't know why people who are already playing it should stop. They won't add tons of cutscenes, I'm thinking like 15 minute at best.

Then the damage is done for you and that's fine.

...well, it's not "fine", but there's not much we can do about it besides lament the unsteady directorial hand of "TBT" and the seeming obliviousness of the entire development team for allowing it to get to this point. A lot of the potential fixes for the narrative are, in retrospect, fairly innocuous, from adding a few lines of dialogue to making the dumb 'cosmogony' book conspicuously lying out in weird places actually explain the summons, since they're integral to the plot.

Some of the game is just straight up not playtested, like Noctis grunting over Ardyn's grand reveal lines in Chapter 13.

As someone who waited for this game from day one, to watching their anime series, the movie, downloading their apps, pre-ordering a deluxe edition, watching their UNCOVERED marketing stunt and then handwaving an embarassing delayed date, sharing their videos and spreading word of mouth to friends, I'm entitled to voice my opinion.

HAHAHAHA

I'm sorry but I think this news has made me crazed.

Now the wait for patched chapters and cutscenes begins.

Let me go XV...I want to move on.

The game sure has hell needs it.

Post a point in the game up to which it was excellent and one of the best FF's ever it becomes an incomplete mess.

Street Fighter V

That just added the story-mode, no? Or did they go back and change some of that stuff after adding the story-mode in?

Aside from the Mass Effect ending thing, this seems fairly unprecedented for a game to patch in fairly significant story-edits after release.

I'm that one guy whos hyped at them making different font sizes a thing, no more me having to sit up and squint with my glasses to read the subtitles!!

Also they might make the gameplay camera better, I'll gladly shelve it for the time being if these two things get fixed for me.

Yeah they kind of have to do this right? I mean, I think I'll be beating the game by this weekend.

I'm not even that far in the game (I've been doing a few sidequest at chapter 3 and I'm at like 15 hours I think), so unless the game is like Metal Gear Rising in the fact that the game has a slow start, then the rest of the game just flies by, it'll probably be a while before I reach the chapter that they're fixing.

But yeah, in terms of cutscenes I don't mind going back and watching them once I've finished the game, but to me there's a difference between being able to watch it from the game, and watching it on YouTube.

Lol gamers are the weirdest freakin' group of people man. Company announces FREE updates to make the game better:

"Wow what a fucking mess. Can't believe this shit. RIP FF and SquareEnix."

Whether or not these updates should have been done during dev time is a moot point. A lot of other companies would be like "well we are done with the game, fuck it. What's done is done." but here SE is trying to further enhance the game and people just bitch and moan.

As Noctis would say.... "Un. Believable."
