Super Mario Run 10M+ downloads Day 1, over $4M revenue, biggest Appstore launch ever.

You're telling me I'm in a bubble and your avatar is an Amiibo promotion. OK.

I mean, It's not written AMIIBO on my avatar, you didn't even know for what it stood for. It's just that I was an active member of the Amiibo thread back then in Smash times.

Point is that avatar-quoting isn't quite the best way to debate.

Anyways, whatever floats your boat man. :)

While this is a monumental achievement I think comparing it to Pokemon GO is a bit unfair.

Super Mario Run got so much promotion even at the Apple conference! Pomemon GO released out of nowhere and in only select countries.

The real game is to see how it fares on the grossing chart for the next couple months.

I wonder if Nintendos success on the App Store will help with Switch sales.

iOS is like the cheap pocket camera
Switch is the DSLR

Question, are mobile downloads counted on a per itunes/Google play account or a per device basis?

Also, do you pay the $10 for each device that you want to play the game on or do you just pay the $10 one time on your account and can play on any device attached to your account?

Finally! An unbiased review.

You know what would perfect too? A Wario Ware for iOS/Android devices. It's surprise me it's not a future project for Nintendo lol

Oh god yes! i played WarioWare Touched! On my phone with Drastic DS Emulator and WarioWare games fit perfectly on mobile.

They even can just port Touched! it is awesome to play on a mobile device.

If you buy the IAP you can play it on any device that's logged into your iCloud / App Store account without paying again.

People still downplaying how impressive this is.

It's free to download and it's Mario on a platform with an insanely large install base.. It's not that imoressive, tbh, the store visibility was front and center for months.

Let me put it this way. It looks so fun I want the big iPad pro to play it. Killer app. Nintendo is on fire.

The 2D assets, like the backgrounds, look like shit on my Air 2. Very low-res.

Pretty sure the downloads are by account basis.

Purchases are also linked via account, not by device. So if I for example got a new phone for the holidays, I could just login to my iTunes account and the purchase will be brought over to the new phone with the game on it.

People buying it full price or not, 2.85 million people getting exposed to Mario again is a good thing for Nintendo with the Switch nearing release.

Even if they say "Bah this was a crap mobile game, but I wonder what else Mario has been up to?" Then go and see Switch releasing in a couple months with a new Mario, that's a win for Nintendo.

The purchase ties to your MyNintendo account. As long as you log in with your MyNintendo account after purchasing the game, I don't think there's a limit on how many devices you can be signed in on.

Interesting that it's not New Super Mario U though. This isn't moving Wiius the way GO moved 3DS' to play Pokemon.

How is that interesting? A tiny fraction of people own a Wii U compared to the Wii. The Wii was a phenomenon. And the Wii U is on its way out and hasn't had a price drop in years. Nintendo couldn't care less if they move the things at this point.

For something that is advertised heavily and a huge deal and free to download, the amount of downloads don't sound too impressive. To be fair this is just ios so we will see how things go in the following months I guess
You're right, Apple said 20 million ios users bookmarked Mario Run. It's not even a day though, the app was available 10 hours ago in France.

"Actually it's not impressive because..."

No, it is. You just don't think it is for what ever reason or you don't like it.

Awesome, also there should be a few factor to take into account which sure helped that a lot, not everyday a game gets it's own space in the a Apple Keynote iPhone presentation, also not every app gets the same marketing and commercial Mario Run had, but not the less it's a great achievement for Nintendo.
Although it also worries me a bit, cause if(crossing my finger) Switch won't have a good launch and won't sell at least as good as the 3DS did...then i can see investors really push Nintendo to abandon the console market focusing on software for mobile and perhaps 3rd parties console, that would be so bad, but i'm being too paranoid here, most likely this renew momentum for Nintendo franchises will help sales of Switch too

I have friends that don't even own a gaming console who texted me yesterday to exchange friend codes.

I think it will end up doing ok...

I contributed, game is fun, looks great, and has a lot of content.

If Pokémon Go is anything to go by, it'll have a huge impact on hardware and software for Nintendos next main MARIO game.

Not impressed at all. It's free ffs and one of the most internationally known entertainment IPs around.

I want the purchase numbers before applauding.

Extremely impressive. Nintendo's found a lot of success in the mobile sphere. I should download it too, totally forgot it came out. Looked great.

Nope, not impressive at all. Breaking records, being number 1 Grossing around the world is still unimpressive to us. Being a good game and showing the world that people are actually willing to spend £7.99 on mobile is also unimpressive to us.
A big "Nope". I agree with you here. 😕

The biggest launch in the story of the App Store is not impressive because _____.

I overestimated and misunderstood the smart phone market.

Simple as that. Plenty of games on consoles destroy that number day 1. The reason I assumed SMR's number would be far larger is the way people talk about smart phone software. As if it is so easy to develop for and profit from that Nintendo would quit the console business.

I love Nintendo and want to see them succeed. I just had no idea 2.85M was considered an impressive number when you hear about apps making hundreds of millions of dollars daily/weekly/whatever.

I don't even play smart phone games and clearly don't know shit about them.

I'd like to play Uncharted 4, just not on shitty antiquated Sony hardware.

Everything should be on PC.

I think that too, that's also why i love what Microsoft did with Xbox Anywhere, being able to play those first parties with the best graphics/frame rate available is awesome. On the other hand though i'm still happy Nintendo does their console, and i'd like it to be like that forever, cause they always try to innovate with them, rather than just make a weaker and smaller PC like Sony and Microsoft are doing and most likely will keep on doing seen PS4 Pro and Scorpio

Good...but even if everyone paid for it, revenue wise it would be no better than a new Mario platformer on Wii U or 3DS would make on day one worldwide.

Nintendo's main focus isn't even sales. Their master plan right now is getting brand exposure. They're pretty intent on making Mario not only the biggest name in game, they want him to be the biggest name in all of media.

Purchases or not, a download means someone in the world is seeing Mario running and jumping. Another person that could potentially buy another Mario game and more importantly, another person that might buy a Switch at launch.
