Super Mario Run 10M+ downloads Day 1, over $4M revenue, biggest Appstore launch ever.

No. It's not. It sucks. It's stupid. It's totally user unfriendly. No excuse for it.
Yes, it is normal. Many mobile games use this system. If you think it's "user unfriendly", add friends another way. I believe in you!

It will probably be the predominant way.
Doubtful. You can add friends in the game using social media.

So?
now im just scared to see them in Switch.
Wii U doesn't use them. Switch isn't going to either.
.
It's just a really bad system. I think if Nintendo goes universal account system with the Switch it will help alleviate the conception that it's "just another Nintendo console".

My Nintendo is their new universal account system.

As my old boss used to say, the proof in the pudding is in the eating.

I'm glad they are implementing something, but still waiting to see what that something is.

That "something" is My Nintendo Nintendo Account. You can go register right now! I did eight months ago.

Let's not kid ourselves, their games would sell great on current gen systems. Surely investors must be thinking this aswell.

I thought it mentioned 5 million in revenue?
So 500,000 out of the 2,850,000 bought the game.

That's a really good ratio for mobile.

While it will certainly drop over time, the game might end up with close to 100 million downloads, thanks large in part to just having Mario in the title and being pretty good.

Are we talking Deus Ex great, Ratchet & Clank great, or ReCore great?

Seems like more evidence to the idea that Nintendo should go third party. No one has ever questioned the strength of their IPs, or their ability to make great games. It's just that they've had a bunch of missteps with hardware. If I was a Nintendo investor, I would be begging them to develop for other platforms. It's just hard for me to believe that they are making more money by not making games for other platforms.

Anyway, Kudos to the big N.

Nobody kid themselves over this. Not even Nintendo. The question is whether there is more money to be made with their own hardware or not. In case of the Wii U: OF COURSE NOT. In case of the Wii: OF COURSE. In the case of Switch: WHO KNOWS.

Guess what, it's not as easy or clear as we might think.

Is it going to let you restore your purchases from previous devices?
Are we going to be able to play multiplayer without the use of any other level of authentication?
Will it provide parties and group chats?

Again, I'm glad they are moving in the right direction, but still reserving myself until the execution has been confirmed.

Apparently it bears reiterating that this game is free to download, and includes only a single $10 charge to unlock the full game, with zero additional in-app purchases.

Nintendo investors don't give a shit about PS4 XB1 or PC, they want Nintendo to go third party on mobile and nothing else. That would be terrible for everybody.

So far, New Super Mario Wii U (yes, Wii U) has made an absolute fuckton more money at 5.5 million sold. Reading comprehension anyone?

Like I said I don't want Nintendo to turn out like Sega in the way they handle their IPs.

I gotcha'. I thought you weren't even aware they had a new account system!

Your points are valid. I'm wondering about them myself!

Ok, wait.

Wait a second.

You really think that Nintendo investors care about PS4 or Xbox, like, at all?

Really?

Say hello to Nintendo browser games and mobile games, cause that's what you're wishing for here.

That's the only IAP. Think!

I haven't played it enough. Geez. It's been out for less than half a day. It sure seemed like I was being offered tickets and stuff for money. Maybe that's the sole and only payment I will ever have to/get to make.

A 10% conversion rate in a pay-to-unlock mobile game is unprecedented, AFAIK.

But assuming the conversion rate remains the same, the game would need to be downloaded around 180 million times to match the gross revenue of New Super Mario Bros U.

Nintendo's investors couldn't give two shits about Sony and MS platforms. The investor that wants Nintendo to go third party is the investor that wants Nintendo wholly on mobile.

In my opinion, Nintendo having one dedicated system + a strong mobile presence is by far their best course of action and it's going to pay off beautifully for them.

pokemon go launch was so slow compared to this. The pokemon company and niantic did not expect pokemon go to be big at all.

Nonetheless, this is impressive for nintendo.

Nintendo Account. My Nintendo is the reward program.

1. Yes. Miitomo and Super Mario Run do this already.
2. I don't see why not? It absorbed the NNID system they had already.
3. That's...got nothing to do with an account system.

I love, love, love this info!
Firstly I bought SMR to show my support for mobile Ninty games, so they could release FE asap, but now, man. I really like SMR, this game is addicting! Both Nintendolife and Eurogamer reviews describe my feelings, plus it is a good read.

That's the idea that Nintendo put forth well in advance of this game launching. Free with a single 1-time in-app purchase to unlock everything, not pay-to-win nickel-and-dime bullshit.

There's really no reason you would need additional IAPs anyway. You can get coins easily by replaying levels, and you'll earn tickets via other means like the bonus game or ? blocks.

Is it going to let you restore your purchases from previous devices?
I would believe that is the case.

Sure, but the profit margin on this has got to be immense compared to NSMBU, and despite Apple getting their cut that's nothing compared to manufacturing, distribution, and retail taking their slices.

Software sells hardware, Nintendo's real bread and butter.

I bet Nintey would want a share of iPhone/iPad sales motivated by their games. It'll never happen though lol

Other third parties would leave the current gen consoles en masse.

Remember? They don't think they can compete with Nintendo software.

Arguing more for the existence of affordable, non-$700 phones that exist Android-side, like OnePlus.

Was originally going to quote and cutout the bit about outdated, and only include affordable, but I was on mobile at the time and lazy.

Also, even then, phones are expensive as hell compared to consoles. Phones are absolutely not affordable.

Sorry if this is too soon and in bad taste.

So great to see Iwata's strategy for leveraging IP and diversifying their investments work out to such success. I said a while back that it'll be years before we see the full extent of Iwata's plans. Kimishima also said that they're expecting to return to "Nintendo-like profits." They're really just getting started here. New age for Nintendo for sure.

Would love to know how many people paid the $10 for the full game. Saw a lot of angry tweets about the price point.

There would be the same angry tweets if the game was $1. These morons all thought it was free, and that they were somehow entitled to have it for free.
