Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Spending money is never fun for me. Neither is having to keep track of daily deals and others. This is easy and convenient, and makes the whole process as painless as possible. I far prefer it.

same

the idea that "something you want to buy is on sale but it might be MORE on sale in 3 days for 4 hours" is somehow "fun" is something I cannot fall in line with

I can buy what i'm interested in, others can buy what they're interested in, and here on GAF we have the "cool things you might not know about" post during these sales and I can just use that to see if anything I didn't get piques my interest

I don't have VR and I'm not interested so It's annoying when I accidentally don't realise and a game sounds really interesting....and it's VR.

These two sentences are at odds with eachother

BAHAHAHAHA

OMG... MY.. SIDES...

Everything on my Wishlist only -50% off :(...

Will deals get better as the sale goes on or is this as good as it gets this year?

VA-11 HALL-A is 15% off at 12 dollars USD. Would suggest it for anyone looking for a neat visual novel/adventure game with a novel interaction mechanic, tons of atmosphere, and really good character-centric writing.

Eh? Sometimes a game can sound interesting from the description, but it doesn't explicitly state it's a VR title until further down the page.

ABZU for 6€? Get!

Still have to decide between Phantom Brave and Xanadu Next...

Are the FFXIII and FFXIII-2 ports as bad as people say?

Can't talk about FFXIII-2 but in FFXIII the framerate is all over the place. It's playable but certainly could've been better.

All I wanted was Metal Gear Rising. $30 is still a bit too much. Oh well. Guess I'll snag Dawn of War 2.

Metal Gear Rising is 75% off. Maybe it didn't update in your browser?

Heard a lot of good things about Pony Island, it's dirt cheap right now.

any story-oriented or art-based games that you guys reccommend? just wrapping up oxenfree,

looking for things like Abzu, firewatch...those styles and artistic games :)

anyone?

I haven't played it myself yet but had it in my queue / list for a while, but maybe look at Time Frame

VII is also $5.99, the page was just bugging out

Ive never played any final fantasy game. What game should i play as a showcase of what ff makes so great?

I only have a ff3 on ds still sealed, but meanwhile its too expensive to open and play it lol.

I enjoyed some of the nintendo rpg like etrian odyssey, strange journey and dragon quest on ds. Lost Odyssey on 360 was also great.

So where can i start?

If you liked Lost Odyssey, Final Fantasy 8 and Final Fantasy X are probably the closest living relatives. That's not necessarily what I would recommend if you hadn't said that, they're not necessarily my favourites, but it'd be an easy bridge to cross. Of the older titles, Steam is not the best platform to play 3, 4, 5, or 6. A lot of people would recommend 7 and the PC probably is the best place to play FF7.

VI. But the sprites on the PC version look like shit. Apart from that I believe it's supposed to be a very good port.

FFX

I think it's the easiest to get into. Voiced, great world and story, top-tier battle system.

The series is numbered but each installment is separate, so you don't need to play the earlier games to understand them.

6 is good but I recommend playing it on the SNES or emulating that version somehow.

X is a cool game.

Based on your liking for LO, I'd go with FFX.

(I'd also recommend VI but the Steam version looks ugly, albeit playable. But there's better options if you have them.)

FF7 is the only right answer.

Final Fantasy X imo. If you enjoy it, go back and explore the older entries.

Some of them are pretty different from eachother though. (IX, for example is the PS era game most similar to the classic entries)

Looked at my wishlists... wow, what has become of the Steam Winter Sale. Max 50% off across the board pretty much. And I don;t have anything from this year on my wish list even.

Though I shouldn't be surprised, it's been like this for a couple of years. Maybe next year I'll buy some stuff.
