Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

This sale is crap. Guess I'll wait to see what the Humble Monthly looks like before I buy the very few games I want during this Winter Sale.

Are there any active vouchers for GamesPlanet? It seems like the lowest price for the higher editions of Pillars of Eternity.

Real Talk: All Final Fantasy games are average at best and rely more on spectacle and fireworks than good plots and character development.

for good JRPGs with actual characters and stories check out Dragon Quest

I'm getting Darkest Dungeon surely. But Inside or Oxenfree? They're both story heavy games I think and one might be enough for now.

inb4 why not both

Activision frequently gives up licenses, and when they do it's typically at the end of the year. But there's no specific reason to believe the Transformers license is expiring this year and the only real evidence they'll drop it is that the last few games haven't performed well. There is a new Transformers movie next year I think, so who knows.

Interesting, thanks.

Both have received wide critical acclaim with a slight edge to Inside. Oxenfree is half the price and probably near it's lowest long-term price equilibrium, while Inside is a fairly mild discount.

It's hard to get excited about Steam sales any more without the Flash sales, which means the discounts never get that low. Plus, I save most of my money for PSVR games instead of PC Indie games now.

I did pick up Pony Island for less than $2, not sure what else. I might get FF X to try to finish it since I only got halfway on the PS4 version. Any good mods?

Bumpy, this thread moves fast :P
GTA V runs much better and still looks just as good if not better at times than Watch Dogs 2. If they have a really beefy PC then I could see WD2 being worth it. But if not I'd say GTA V definitely and wait for WD2 to get even cheaper.

This is good to know. It's just that someone in the earlier thread believed they could be delisted, because they were 80% off a week ago. I might just hold out and wait on buying them till next year.

When you really get down to it Final Fantasy has never been this perfect franchise. The games didn't really blow up till 7 for a reason, and that was most specifically because the 3D spectacle. There are good ones, but let's not act like FF is the GOAT JRPG series of all time.

You've convince me let me check out these hot Dragon Quest games on steam.

Oh no.

Just Cause already at 75%, might grab it.
Has Shadowrun Hong Kong ever been lower? I don't think so. Still need to finish Dragonfall but I'm loving it.

Your dragon based biases have been well documented.

Well sometimes publishers deep discount games for one last hoorah before delisting, and Activision has done that before. I think Walking Dead Survival Instinct and Deadpool both got farewell sales. But they've also deep discounted games just as part of normal sales, and we can't possibly know which is which a priori. I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on my account, I'm just trying to present the gambling calculus as best as I can :)

Thanks a bunch!! Yeah, I think I'll grab GTA V then, and wait for WD2 to get cheaper :D

Edit. ^ Thanks a lot too! :) I'll grab it asap.

Is Assassin's Creed Rogue and Liberation good? Want to get black flag since it's the last fun AC I can remember but the silver bundle for all 3 is only $10 more on Uplay. And is there any really important dlc that I should get that isnt included (legacy assassin outfits and such)?

Don't get Liberation. its terrible. Rogue is decent. I'm not finished the game but its completely skippable.

Games released within the last 6 months are rarely going to get more than 20-30% off. Even within the last year, Doom is unique in Bethesda's aggressive discounting strategy. I feel like none of this is surprising at all, even if I'd like Dead Rising to go for cheaper.

p.s. Thumper bought. Hoo boy.

Picked up Tales of Symphonia, Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim, Costume Quest 1 & 2 Bundle and some DLCs for Civ5. Might buy some more later.

I want to get Rayman Legends, but I just noticed that the game doesn't seem to fully support controllers. Am I better off getting the Wii U of PS4 versions for a bit more cash?

I say go for Wii U, it's the best version by far IMO as the Murphy stages were designed around the gamepad

Getting back in the game after a long hiatus...

So with dailies gone, this sale will never change prices from now to the end?

I tried typing a rebuttal but I can't actually see the screen because I'm laughing too hard

It's not co-op but Starwhal has become a regular party hit at my place.

The developer is a long-time GAFfer too, btw. I always try to go out of my way to support GAF posters who make games (as opposed to game developers who happen to register GAF accounts). We knew them before they were famous!

I noticed Xenoverse 1 had a base price drop to 39.99€

still too much >_>

A lot of stuff I've been vaguely interested in but not actively waiting for at insta-buy this time around

Looking at Downwell and Super House of Dead Ninjas for ~$1,

Why Am I Dead At Sea, SteamWorld Dig, and Massive Chalice for $2

Dungeon of the Endless and Fallout for ~$3

And Satellite Reign and Dex for ~$5 a piece

Then it gets hard

I mean just in the $5-10 tier there's Invisible, Inc., Sunless Sea, Rebel Galaxy, Arkham Knight, RE4, Enter the Gungeon, Age of Decadence, Cities: Skylines, Mother Russia Bleeds, Grimrock 2, Shovel Knight, Axiom Verge, SteamWorld Heist, Stasis, and Stardew Valley.

I'm never gonna be able to pull the trigger on GTAV.

The Witness at $20 is tempting though.

Inside is definitely not story heavy in any way. It's a very atmospheric platformer a la Limbo with no dialogues. Oxenfree is a 2D side-scroller Telltale-like game with plenty of exploration and backtracking. The story and characters are all really cool.

Both of them are amazing. I'd go with Oxenfree personally.
