Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

SQUAD is currently on sale for $25. Its a team based FPS that plays similar to ARMA or Rising Storm. Its still in early access but there's plenty of content and more to come. It has Russian, American and Militant forces with the British currently WIP. It has complete mod tools which will see community weapons, vehicles, maps added to the game.

I've been eyeballing that, but not sure if I want to jump in. It's more realistic combat, correct? Quick kills, but tactical gameplay?

I think the refund system is important but I wouldn't be opposed to situational disabling of it if it encouraged publishers to sell games more frequently at 75%+ off again.

I would imagine that's a single key.

Yeah wish they just disabled refunding during the Steam winter sale and went back to having daily deals + flash sales. It was nice getting 75+% discounts for a few hours. Since publishers don't want 75+% off on their game for 2 weeks as opposed to 4 hours, we end up with these crappy sale prices.

First of all, all of you who were asking about Xanadu Next, (and all of you didn't as well): go buy it right now, what the hell are you waiting for!?

Ray Gigant 70% off is tempting because anime vita port rpgs dont usually get bundled so its safe there, plus its a big discount, plsu I love the 2d art style of the battles.

The mixed reviews arent encouraging tho.

Bought Ray Gigant, played 1 hour, refunded.
I'm usually a sucker for post-apocalyptic special school sentient weapons animu stuff, but that beginning was pretty boring.
Gameplay didn't particulary impress me as well.
It does look damn good though in battles. But I'm 50/50 on the character designs.

Trillion: God of Destruction is $8.99, down from $30.

More people should get this game, as long as they understand that it's not a JRPG; it's a time management/SRPG strategy game with heavy emphasis on VN-esque story and connecting with characters that you are training up to literally send to their death against the game's only boss who has a trillion life.

Maybe I'll do a longer write-up of it, but it was one of my biggest surprises when I played it and is an under-rated, under-bought and most definitely hidden gem.

It's even cheaper on Bundlestars with the -10% coupon.

Looks like all of the YS games are on sale which should I pick up? I already own 1+2 and loved it.

Oath in Felghana and/or Origin

There are many quality of life improvements added in definitive, plus brand new areas. Recommended without hesitation!

Please tell me you can now backtrack to those places that were one and done before? Like the part where you run up the tree with water chasing you. Missed one collectible there and I really wanted to 100% the game. That kinda soured me on the game (which is kinda stupid I know) and I never really finished it.

Satellite Reign, Massive Chalice, Dungeon of the Endless, and Downwell bought for ~$10.

Gonna put some hours in tonight getting familiar with them. If something clicks, I'll settle on that. If not, plenty of more time to buy.

YS VI not as good?

Conception 2 is at it's lowest price point.

The following picture is pretty representative of what you may expect from this game:

It's a pretty unique experience in terms of setting and dialogues. It has great art, too - although the dungeon-crawling aspect has some flaws. In any case, i can recommend it to anyone who didn't get turned off by the picture above :p

Ugh. Trails in the Sky is still going for $20 on sale. I wish Nihom Falcon would put their game on a proper sale so poor sods like me could actually afford it.

Does anyone have any thoughts about these games? I'm unsure about Dragon's Dogma because I don't know if I will even play it before the next sale. How likely is it that it will have a deeper discount next time? And what about buying Cities: Skylines and Invisible, Inc. without their respective DLCs?

yeah tactical game play is much more of a focus here. you work with your squad to build defense points, place sandbags, gunner positions, etc.

they rolled out the vehicle update but they plan on adding more with helicopters in a few months. if you enjoy ARMA i feel you'd like this game because its a much more focused and condensed version of it. watch some videos on Youtube (artillery barrage, sniper game play)

Seasons After Fall is a good little game, but it's really quite simple. If you're looking for something more meaty then you can probably get through Tyranny is 20ish hours. Just be prepared to read a lot of text.

I've heard really positive things about all four but haven't played any. Setsuna is considered a short RPG, but I think it's around 15-20 hours. I believe Quadrilateral Cowboy is more like 3-5 hours. Looks like Tyranny is around 15-30. Seasons After Fall around 5-10. None have great discounts in this particular sale so I'd probably hold off or get Seasons After Fall, which is the cheapest of the four.

I don't mind the discount, I just wanted to pick something up that might be considered for my GOTY list since I've played (with the exception of a couple of really short ones I will knock out before next week) all of the other games I think I'm going to consider.

I believe there is still 1 secret in Misty Woods that becomes unavailable once you play through it (I could be wrong here, as I always make sure to get it on the first pass).

But for everywhere else, including the tree, You can revisit every area to chase up all hidden areas! You even get a new ability to speed things up too!

Real Talk: All Final Fantasy games are average at best and rely more on spectacle and fireworks than good plots and character development.

for good JRPGs with actual characters and stories check out Dragon Quest

Oath in Felghana is Ys 3 and considered the best in the series, so...

So a game I want is 75% off, but it's not a 'featured sale' on the main store page. Does this mean it may go lower? Or will it stay at 75% the entire sale?

Every single one of those is extremely well-received around SteamGAF.

There are some Cities: Skylines diehards.

For the image thing, right click the picture that you linked to, go to properties, get the actual .gif or .jpg or whatever, and use that. IMG tags require the image source.

Wanted to spent $20, spent $21.30 after some trading card money got put in.
It's a relief to be done on the store and just be downloading games. Unfortunatly most of the games on my wishlist didn't go down as much as I would like, but I wound up grabbing Hard West, Portal 2, and Age of Decadence plus some under a buck games. Now I just wait for them to download...

All of that sounds pretty awesome. Might have to look into this.

I guess there's a few games off my wishlist.

Well, I just bought it so look for the Spring sale, you know, when I'll actually get around to playing it, for it to hit $10.

EDIT: That also gets to me to 200 games.

You should buy Dragon's Dogma and play it today! The game got released on steam almost a year ago and won't be much cheaper during Spring Sale than it is now.

Witness at $20 is a goddamn steal.

BUY IT DAMN YOU

I would only buy it if you really, really like the puzzles and are happy to do nothing else. It is a game that offers nothing else and will only be enjoyed by a select group of people.

More importantly, is there a chance Skyrim can go cheaper?

Featured Sales are just sales they're promoting on the front page, they're not higher discounts or anything. Unless they're doing special discounts on Steam Awards winners, there's no reason to believe that anything will get a steeper discount later. 75% off is normally around where most stuff tops out anyway.

Greenmangaming are doing the Metal Gear Solid V Definitive Experience for £15.57.
I've got both games on PS4 but none of the DLC....

How is the PC version by comparison? Particularly on a GTX 970.
I'm interested in the PC version for messing with mods too.
