Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

EU is certainly the more complex game mechanically, probably closer to what CK gives you. Stellaris is starting to get there, especially with mods, but it still needs some good ol' Paradox iterating. What it is really good at though is role playing if you're at all into sci-fi themes. FWIW it's also my favorite soundtrack in years, maybe ever.

My man.

Stellaris, RimWorld, Doom...

What an incredible year for Soundtracks.

Most bundles allow you to buy it, just not recieve the games you already own or even better, give you a reduced price for games you own.

Well, they're under a dollar.

The first one is also a Bundle of Bundles, and I'm not sure Steam could handle parsing out the games from inside each bundle to see if you own them and come up with s super specific price. Plus, the savings you get from buying it are still greater than buying each bundle individually. For me, it did detect that I already owned the full contents of two of the bundles and dropped the price.

I bought Downwell on my phone way back and it just didn't gel with me but I'm not sure if it's the mobile controls or the game itself.

It's night and day comparing Downwell on mobile to Steam with a good controller. If you liked everything beside how it controlled then it's a no brainer getting it on Steam.

Any recommendation on Stellaris v. Europa Universalis IV with multiple (though probably not all) expansions? I've played a lot of Crusader Kings and looking for a new grand strategy fix.

Depends what you like more. If you want something more realistic go for EU4. If you want something more futuristic go for Stellaris. Personally I prefer EU4. Stellaris is quite good, but it still needs more content IMO and knowing Paradox they're going to be releasing expansions for it in the years to come. EU4 on the other hand is already very fleshed out and has a lot added with each expansion, so you can get more for your money. Plus some of the stuff roughly translates over (for example claims, the importance of your heir, and stats -> monarch points). It feels like CK2 but instead of you being intimately concerned with the affairs of your dynasty, you're now intimately concerned with the affairs of your country, of which the dynasty is an important part, but not the whole thing.

Assuming you do go for EU4, get Art of War, Common Sense, and Rights of Man, though, and supposedly Cossacks as well. The other expansions can be collected when you have the cash. Truth be told, the base game is more than enough, but the expansions do help add meaningful contributions. If you go to reddit and search for "which DLC to get" from the EU4 and paradoxplaza subreddits you should get a good idea of the reasoning behind those 4 expansions.

...?

It's a bundle, the whole point is that you buy all the included items at once?
Many of the bundles in the new system give you a discount based on how many titles you own from the bundle.
And even if they don't give a discount based on the number titles, it's a bit ridiculous to block someone from buying a whole bundle just because they own one of the titles. Considering the value of each title is several times the price of the bundle.

Is the Amplitude Endless worth the purchase (I have zero of the games)? I am curious if the Endless Legend expansions are necessity to enjoy this title, or if I would be simply better off buying OG Endless Legend and Endless Space. Civ V has really bolster my joy for the 4X genre.

OK so far I have bought ABZU, tales from the borderlands and mass effect 2. Still considering rimworld even tho it's not on sale!

If you will play it now just take the leap. It's an amazing game and who knows when it will even go on sale. It's worth $30 and much more still.

Just picked up:

Nidhogg
Tengami
Abzu
Final Fantasy IX
Earthtongue
This War of Mine

I also got Star Wars Battlefront on Origin. There are some other titles I have my eyes on, including the Trails games and some other obscure JRPGs, but I'm not sure if I wanna load up on JRPGs right now.

Any recommendations for maybe a 2 or 3 hour game that's only a couple of bucks?

I really like Shadowrun Returns, it's very light and casual and introduces new folks to the world of Shadowrun (and isometric RPG) really well. It's not a great game, but I wouldn't dissuade people from playing it as long as they understand they should move on when they get bored.

I haven't played Dragonfall yet but I can't wait.
When I was playing Returns I was thinking 'In this day and age no shadows in a vidja game, really?' during the whole playthrough :p

I had a few games from both bundles and had no trouble buying the bundles.

FUCK YES!!!!

Metal Gear Rising for 9 bucks (usually 32.99$), getting it tonight and playing 4K.

Fucking HYPE! HNNNG! :D

Just tried to use my Dualshock 4 on steam. wonder how long it'll take for games to actually have proper button prompts?

Also No Mans Sky has the motion controls enabled by default....*shudders*

Yeah, Total Warhammer is going to go back to the wishlist for awhile... eventually I'll pick it up & all the DLC.

That's kinda where I'm leaning too. I think, "Man, I really want to play TW: Warhammer but look at that backlog!!! I could easily play half dozen of those plus Overwatch for the next 3-4 months until the spring seal and buy TW when it hits $30."

Yeah, they keep releasing DLC packs for it too - I'd rather wait a bit, play what I have now and pick it all up at once later.
