Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Bought Glittermitten Grove, I hope it is worth the 20 dollars lol.

Edit: Max resolution is 1080P, no 1440P support

Glittermitten Grove/1440p = 1080p

it's simple math

Is Tyranny worth it for the $40 price point? How did it turn out? I kickstarted Pillars of Eternity for my love of Baldur's Gate, but ended up fading hard on it. Does Tyranny do anything different to set itself apart?

Finished one of the games I bought this sale, Telltale's Batman. One of their better ones I'd say. Time to get started on I am Setsuna or Xanadu Next

Was reminded by the giveaway above: how do the X-wing games work? Are they just DosBox versions? Are they the Win95 versions that replaced the music and models?

I keep meaning to buy them, but I feel they've been cheaper than the current price.

Both, X-Wing and TIE Fighter, include the three versions. The original game (Dosbox), the CD Collector's edition (Dosbox) and the Special Edition with the XvT engine and iMuse butchered (Win 95).

XvT (+BoP) and Alliance are the regular versions, and the latter is compatible with the sexy mods out there.

How does XCOM 2 compare to Enemy Within? I loved Enemy Within a ton, but heard a lot about the XCOM 2 being more frustrating.

It's the superior game. Yeah, it has some things you may find annoying in both, the base game and the DLCs (which are a bit meh), but there is a good chance you will find a mod in the Workshop that will tune/fix/overhaul whatever you don't like.

Regarding the Steam Awards cards, I imagine they will rise in price days after the sale is finished, right? Or should I try to sell them now?

So, what's the over-under on the Amazing Spider-Man games getting delisted at the end of the year? They're Activision, about 5 years old, and a licensed title, so I want to grab them before they're gone.

The Franchise pack has been $20 in the past, so it's kind of hard to justify spending double that right now, but if it's in danger of being delisted I'll bite the bullet.

Actually, speaking of delisting, is there some kind of list somewhere of currently at-risk titles?

Quoting myself from this morning, hoping for some more visibility. Anyone got any opinions/info about this?

Those mods do look nice. Did that project to convert all of TIE Fighter to XvT/XWA format ever finish?

If Rocket League doesn't win the "5 more minutes" award, I will fucking riot. That award was made for Rocket League, who doesn't have a "just one more game" feel with it? In fact, the matches are 5 minutes for fuck's sake.

I mean, the "one more turn" meme has been stuck with Civilization since before the word meme was coined so... the award totally belongs to Civ.

If anyone is in any doubt about whether or not to get Hitman, check out Giantbomb's stream from today. Start at around the 18 minute mark and watch for 20-30 minutes to see what sort of crazy shit can happen in the game.

Holy crap, an item on my steam wishlist is on sale!

I've received three such emails in the past 12 hours, and twenty in total since the sale began. Admittedly, I have over 300 items on my wishlist... but it's a little spammy, given few (if any?) prices will have been updated or revised during the sale.

No and yes. The TIE Fighter Total Conversion project had the first 7 battles before went on hold for whatever reason, but there's a guy that released on his own the rest as a mod of the mod.

Currently the TFTC team is working on adapting it (and the X-Wing conversion) to the changes made in the games for the re-release so it can work on them. There is no ETA on when it will be finished.

It absolutely is. Combat is different than PoE because most abilities are cooldown based, not per rest. And the game is pretty replayable because of the faction system and the choices you make during the beginning of the game.

I believe it's this

It's not the "original" trading forum (a group instead), but it'll do. Thanks!

Granted, Civ wouldn't be a bad winner, but the "5 minutes" just screams RL to me. I couldn't play 5-minute bursts of Civ to save my life. Hours, at least.

I beat 66 games this year, i could of beat more but the past 2 months i have been playing multiplayer games and watching Netflix.

Just 3 games in the active single player playing list. Backloggery was a godsend for my Backlog.

Couldn't resist buying a Steam Link for 20 bucks. Hope it works with my TV which is downstairs. Anyone has experience with the Steam Link?

Had mine for about 2 months. It seems to perform better with some games more than others. Anything less demanding on the hardware seems to be flawless. I think the general consensus is wired connection is all but required for consistency.

I really wonder why TESO isn't as cheap as it is elsewhere and has a worse discount than only a month ago. That was the main thing i was considering buying in the sale.

What's Dragon's Dogma most comparable to, if you had to compare it to something?
This is hard. Has a shadow of the colossus feel mixed with a very light action game element, think devil may cry. It's very Capcom in gameplay feeling solid and engaging. Some obtuse RPG elements you'll need to figure out to learn how to level up and get new skills and abilities.

I loved it. Has a new game plus that's pretty much needed. Don't feel pressured to do everything on the first playthrough.

Got my pc hooked with a powerline and my TV is right next to the router. Hope everything works out fine. Planning to just use it to play some NBA 2K on the couch whenever I got people dropping by, since that's way more comfortable than sitting in front of the desk.

What kind of games do ya exactly mean with less demanding?

Take Dark Souls' atmosphere, Shadow of the Colossus' climbing mechanic and add a touch of Monster Hunter and you've got Dragon's Dogma.

Overall I'd say the Souls series and Monster Hunter are most comparable gameplay-wise imo.

It's hard to nail down one game, here are some off the top of my head:

Monster Hunter (some bosses are HUGH with crazy high HP)
Shadow of the Colossus (can climb larger monster to attack weak points)
Devil May Cry 1 (combat has similar mechanics)
Dying Light (world is different at night)
Final Fantasy (Job/Vocation switching)

It's easily one of my favorite RPGs of all time, the combat and the atmosphere are just amazing. It also has the best dragon fights of any RPG I have played.

I haven't tried that or any other sports titles, so I can't comment specifically there.

On my Link, we usually play local mutiplayer games like Nidhogg, Lethal League, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, Rocket League, etc. Those all seem fine.

While my friend was running some racing and other high speed games on his hardware, I did notice some slight hitches, artifacting on screen, etc.

I'm sure it will come down to your network and specific hardware setup. Overall, I feel like it works well.

only been out for about 2 weeks, I'd never heard of it.

I noticed the game release, but I thought it was yet another management game for old ladies. I was just surprised it was published by Adult Swim, but hey, why not? I did not even bother posting about it in the Steam thread.

RE6 of RPGs; good combat but everything else is mediocre (I didn't like RE6 at all and combat is what its fans say is good). I played about 20 hours of DDDA before finally giving up. Just didn't care enough about the story and characters to keep on trucking.

Yeah the Adult Swim part made me look twice! Makes me think there is a twist somewhere, the Fairies turn cannibalistic and blood rains from the sky etc...

Aight, thanks for all the info. Should work out fine then, since I don't think sports games are as intensive as those racing or fps games. The price is just too good to not give it a try. :d
