Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

I've been playing Heart&Slash, and I've gotta say I'm really not feeling it so far. I read it was supposed to be a roguelike DMC, but the combat is nowhere near as precise or deep. It just feels really mashy rn. And it lacks the variety of other successful roguelikes. Bummed out since it looked so promising. Hoping I'm maybe just missing something?

That's unfortunate, was thinking about picking this up. Love the PS1 era graphical look. I wish more games uses that. Probably still going to pick this up on a deeper sale.

What's the best Musou game on Steam? I was leaning towards DW8 Empires because of the light strategy elements but apparently it's not that good.

Senran Kagura.

The teaser for Resident Evil 7 got a new patch...it fixes the performance for HBAO+ in the game and lets some older CPUs run the game now

I figured HBAO+ performance would be better in the main game but it's nice to see them actually work on that for this teaser as well (for anyone that didn't know the HBAO+ would basically cut your frames in half in some situations compared to SSAO)

Watching an LP of Layers of Fear and the thing that breaks the period setting to me is the handwriting. The typical hand of the time looked nothing like it.

I think they're referring to this stuff:

- 25,000 Renown or 600 R6 Credits to unlock 1 Operator
- Season Pass unlocks all Year 1 Post-Launch Operators

STANDARD EDITION

- Access to 20 original Operators through minimum playtime (GIGN, SAS, GSG9, SPETSNAZ, FBI):

- Access to all Post-Launch operators (JTF2, Navy SEALs and upcoming CTUs):

I only played the beta and remember thinking it was weirdly reminiscent of a free-to-play game which makes sense since that was before they introduced the Starter edition.

Any of the VN's on steam actually good? I hear decent things about root double and muv-luv has a huge fanbase but the art seems kinda bad...

The House in Fata Morgana is amazing.

Edit- Can't believe I forgot Stein's Gate. I think it's because I own the Vita version and don't have it on my Steam wishlist.

Muv Luv Alternative is the greatest VN ever made, but it's prequel (just "Muv Luv") isn't that great. I personally love it for its presentation and high points in the story, but objectively it's not that great. I'd wait until Alternative is out officially before picking it up.

There are a lot of good VNs on Steam right now though. Danganronpa 1&2, Steins;Gate, The House in Fata Morgana (GOTY 2016 IMO), Kindred Spirits on the Roof, Higurashi, and Umineko are all worth a look.

EDIT: Plantetarian's good too. Only about 3-4 hours long if you want something short.

that looks really interesting actually

i like unsettling better than like jump scares and stuff
There's one scene where the mod doesn't work because of the following scene/script. It isn't bad thought because
you see the monster walking around before it starts chasing you
.

The game's story is amazing imo and the "horror" parts shouldn't hold you back from experiencing it.

yeah i wasn't planning on not getting it, just had to be in the mood for something scary

i've played some scary games in the past, i can take some scary, just not in the mood for something overly stressful atm

giving away a 75% coupon for ori and the blind forest def edition, pm me

I have been wondering, is it possible to use this coupon while the game is on sale ? I waited till the sales before using this coupon (in case it would be 75%+ off), but at the moment I can't use it anymore, the game stays at 50%, even if I click on the coupon and click view applicable games, it shows 0 results ...

Nope. It can't be stacked atop an existing discount and it's not possible to opt for a coupon discount in lieu of the sale discount.

I got some Steam gift cards from family members, so I used them today to finish out the rest of my Resident Evil collection on PC. I've had great experiences with REmake, RE4, and RE5 on PC, so I figured the rest of the ports had to be competent. So I got Revelations 1 and 2, RE6, and RE0. Didn't get Operation Raccoon City though... I do have some standards :-P
Raccoon is a fun shooter. If shallow.

so far i picked bioshock infinite season pass, enter the gun geon and beholder for me, and inside for a freind with whom i have family sharing on (i see what uyou dit there award)

Anyone have experience with this game? I was really impressed after watching some of the videos. Looks like a good time but I'm still on the fence for the price though I suppose it did just come out so..

Shadow-Tactics-7-800x445.jpg

I've been raving about this game since it 's release. It's amazing and I highly recommend checking out the demo as that is what sold me on it. One of my favorite games of the year.

I am holding off on Shadow Tactics until I can clear much of my current backlog hence why I hadn't gotten it yet :X

So Sanctuary RPG just appeared on my queue. Apparently it's some kind of rogue-like RPG with full-ASCII graphics. Has anyone here played the game and can share some impressions?

It's got a really great soundtrack. My first (and only so far) character died to a robot's poisonous blood. At the time, I thought "Huh, this games kinda easy so far, I don't feel like I've come really close too many times." It kinda reminded me of Undertale in some ways, in that it's deliberately very retro and self-aware and not serious about itself. And again the good soundtrack. It's very about fighting and upgrading and stat tinkering and fighting some more, no real role playing or heavy investment in the story, at least not that I saw. I'm glad I gave it a shot, but it'd probably be awhile before I felt like investing a lot of time into it again.

how lenient is Valve with refunds? I bought Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu (Resurrection) and it crashed after every credit. Piece of shit. Don't have the patience for that considering I own both 360 versions (EU and JP) that work perfectly. I played for 2.1 hours trying various things and testing them out which puts me very lightly over the window.

Sent in my request but will they actually consider it?

Sounds good, thanks! Guess I will give it a shot, especially for 0.79€ at 90% off :D

It is part of the nemesis t1 bundle at bundle stars if you are interested.

That's a damn fine bundle! Unfortunately I already own most of the games, but it's a nice recommendation :)

Yeah, specially first time.

I think they have become more strict after the start where they actually allowed people with more time. You can maybe try to explain the reasons for the increase of time and it being a small difference may mean they may actually consider it.
Good luck :/
Edit: oh yeah if it is a firtst time they are much more lenient and they will do it surely, if you had done it several times they may flag you as trying to take advantage of it and refuse.

Yeah, this is my first refund. I'm not a heavy Steam user and usually only buy things I know I'll like... although that didn't work out this time unfortunately! I love this game but a port this bad is simply not worth my time, let alone that along with the asking price of $24 on sale. Looks like my J360 will stay hooked up forever.

How long will it take?

Turok is damn good arcade exploration fps (especially steam remaster) with a bit of platforming, dinosaurs ahoy!

Oh man those screens take me back, one of the first games I played with my 3Dfx card back in the day! That and Starwars Shadow of the Empire. Which was the first time I also had the conversation with a friend about how a PC was so much better than a console haha.

Shouldn't be long, just a couple hours. You'll get an email. However if it's accepted you'll have to wait about another day to actually reuse those funds (they'll show as pending).

I'm thinking about refunding some stuff I bought.

Are there any downsides to doing it like temporary restrictions on market transactions or something like that?

No. The refunds FAQ does say that Valve reserves the right to deny future refund requests if it feels you've been abusing the system, but I'd imagine that refers to people refunding games they've completed and similar cases of "This is why we can't have nice things".

So which FF should I get?

Deep Dungeons of Doom -- MB-33D3D639EA8B4DB4 - Taken by barber

It was sitting on my wishlist for over a year, but I finally bought Fran Bow. What an atmospheric, macabre but oddly sweet game. I am currently in the third chapter and like the slight transition from the overtly grotesque into a dark childrens tale. Lovely point and click adventure.
