Played demos of both CrossCode and The Silver Case, just enough to tip me over for purchases. Developers take note, demos are still helpful for buying decisions!

Still unsure if I'm buying The Witness because I think I should, rather than desperately wanting it... is it worthy of its current 50% off pricetag?

The Witness is the only game I've bought full price in the last few years I felt absolutely justified it's costs. One of my favorite games ever.

So which FF should I get?

It depends on what your preferences are, i wouldnt recommend the steam release of ff5 and ff6 as they are freaking ugly (maybe there is a mod that restores the proper pixel graphics instead of those abominations?).
Otherwise 4 is a gem with great story (do not buy the after years as it sucks).
3 has a great style with the different jobs which was later expanded in 5.
Both of them have ds graphics which i kinda dig due to the low polyness.
In the ps1 era (7,8,9) if you want the more classic gamesyle 9 is imo the best though it will be infuriating slow due to how long it takes battles to happen (like the loading is slooow). 8 is weird with the leveling system so you better not go blind.
The x/x-2 bundle is great plus you have the most traditional turn system and the action system. The story in 2 is bad though.
EDIT: As i was told that 5 and 6 have mods that change the graphics i fully endorse them, ff6 has the best story and gameplay union of the classic ff while ff5 has the most variety and depth in the gameplay.

The Witness is worth it's base price. It took me 30h to beat, and I had something around 55% in terms of puzzle completion for that. 50% off on that is a very good deal.

The Witness is good and worth it, but pick up Hacknet too if puzzle/hacking games interest you. It's really good.

I personally thought Abzu was a waste of money. Amazingly pretty game but that's all it is.

No. The refunds FAQ does say that Valve reserves the right to deny future refund requests if it feels you've been abusing the system, but I'd imagine that refers to people refunding games they've completed and similar cases of "This is why we can't have nice things".

Thanks for the help, send off a few refund requests.

Yeah, I'm currently playing FFVI with just two mods (one that removes the bilinear filter and another that changes the font) and I personally think most of it (apart from towns in the world map) looks great. It's not the ugly mess I thought it was and it plays so much better than the PSone version (the one I had tried years ago). So, I would say FFV (which has a similar mod) and FFVI are perfectly playable on Steam.

Oh nice!!
And yeah the ps1 version of the snes square games are awful, you should never have played them haha, they have super long loading times. The gba version of 6 is where it is.
So then i would say that 6 and 5 are the best ff one for the story and complexity and the other for the gameplay.
Thanks again for the info.

IX PC port reaolv d the slow battles issues and there are some mods to further help if needed. It's a great port with enhancements over the PSX version and a very good game and great FF.

VII is also a good port and has a huge modding community. Plus, you know, it's VII. It's a classic and a great game as well.

So which FF should I get?

Well the first one is a free browser game that will last you a couple hours at most and doesn't contain much in the way of mechanical challenge, but it is critically acclaimed and highly entertaining.

The second one costs real life cashmoney and it's supposedly like eight hours long and you have to become good at video game to beat it, and there aren't really reviews out yet.

I think the first one is a safe bet for now, but I'm sure reviews for the second will start materializing shortly.

Age of Wonders 3 or Civ5 would be your best bets. AoW3 is the best fantasy 4X on the market, with great combat and lots of variety, and Civ5 would be the best alternative choice. Just note that AoW3 is more combat-focused than Civ can be.

They both have really good UI and presentation which makes them easy to get into. Also, while I think they're both fine online I haven't really played either multiplayer to say for certain.
I've been lurking over whether to buy Endless Legend or AoW3 for a while now - might check out AoW now based on this. Thanks! :)

Was this game ever released on Steam?
No, it was never released on Steam and i highly doubt it'll ever be released. Not only due to licensing problems, but also because Ubisoft lately actively removing their old titles from Steam because of compatibility problems on new systems. I can't them bothering about their old title just to remove it after few refunds because of technical problems.

Despite a giant backlog and being completely enveloped by X-COM: Enemy Unknown (which I've restarted for the third or fourth time since it came out, and have yet to beat), I'm still considering picking up an additional (smallish) game from my wishlist this sale.

Currently deciding between Oxenfree, Undertale and Virginia. Leaning towards Oxenfree, haven't seen too much of that game, but the screenshots gave me Kentucky Route Zero vibes and I've heard good things about it.

As someone who beat that game on the 360 just to get 1000 gamerscore points, everyone is better off not having available anywhere ever again.

Awesome, I just started replaying Xcom as well.I have the Enemy Within expansion which adds a lot. I've beaten it a few times but now I'm trying it on "classic" level difficult.

I am having trouble buying games with expansions, wanted to buy guilty gear XRD, but holy shit I am not even sure why they listed a huge amount of addons on the deluxe bundle. Anyone else feeling like me when they see a huge list of dlc etc when buying a game?

I needed a sec. but I get it now ;)
Thanks to other folks for the recs!

I don't usually play Sim games but Planet Coaster has my eye. Is this game approachable if I'm not that familiar with that genre?

Bought Civ 5. It seemed like something I would enjoy. Played it for about 50 mins but just couldn't get into it. Refunded. Now 2 days later I'm wondering if perhaps I judged it too quickly.

Literally have never seen Age of Wonders before, thanks. I'll get that in front of her and see what she thinks. I think I actually like the more emphasis on combat, as it might be a good in coming from other genres.

Yes. A basic park is easy to get up and running, but there's plenty of complexity to the scenery and coaster customisation.

Every time I see The Witness, I both want to play it and not want to play it because of a few puzzles that aren't appealing.

What are the puzzles you dislike?

I bought it aswell but i quite like it. 50 mins is quite fast to judge a game like this. I didnt even finish the tutorials by then.

For 7 euro it definitly is a bargain.

There are some entries on Steamdb, but they were added 4 years ago, so something definitively went wrong. Would love to see it on here as well. Even though the game had fair share of problems I quite enjoyed it.

Yeah, Ubi uploaded a few games to Steam that were never made available for whatever reason:

- Cesar Millan's Dog Whisperer
- King Kong
- Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, and Rogue Spear: Urban Operations (all have store subs, but it seems they were never put into use)
- Tintin (consequently the first and thus far only Uplay exclusive)

I don't have the expansion sadly, but then again. I still think there is plenty of stuff there as it is. Hopefully I can stick with it this time. I really love the game, always have, but I used to reload every time something went completely to shit. At some point that just sucks the fun out of the game. This time I just roll with the punches. I'm currently further than I've gotten before. Just got the psionic labs and my entire team is rolling with plasma weapons. I've lost one country early in the game, but ooh well, fuck Argentina.

Get Furi as well, if you have not already :)

Yeah I've had that on my wishlist for a little while, but I'm a bit worried that it won't run on my laptop to be honest! I'll look into it a little bit more...or I'll just take the plunge, then I have it to play when I upgrade :)
