Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

I can't speak to the PS4 versions performance, but the PC version has more graphics settings than I've ever seen in any other game. It's clear that a lot of care and effort went into it. Hard to argue against a cheaper price that also includes the DLC, though.

And part of those settings is a Vulkan renderer (still in beta) which I enjoy testing every month for the fun of it. It's running well in Linux, finally.

Tales of Symphonia worth $5? I heard it was a bad port.

Easily fixable. There's a great Durante mod that fixes it all up. Not a bad game either.

Hitman and Doom are both excellent!

Skyrim or Witcher 3. Best way I can describe both these excellent games:

  • Skyrim is more Lord Of The Rings
  • Witcher 3 is more Game of Thrones
I prefer W3 by a mile, but either game is a great choice.

How could you do this to me, now I don't know which to play!

Skyrim is more like Eragon at best.

So far i have only bought Phantom Brave this sale. Seems like i won't be buying anything else this sale, nothing that catches my eye...

I'd recommend Skyrim first because it's aged a little bit in comparison to Witcher 3. Both games will continue to drop in price into next year, Skyrim probably quicker once the Special Edition sales drop off a cliff.

Skyrim is more like Eragon at best.

Skyrim is nowhere near as bad as Eragon, though comparing it to LOTR is probably a bad call.

Just got an extremely important Christmas gift in the mail.

I think Speedball 2 was the first Steam key I got for free. It started me down this evil path.

this is Speedball 2 Tournament, da exclusive removed game, not Speedball 2 HD, scrub tier bundle fodder. it's a game so good it took 6 publishers to bring me this retail edition.

Hyper Light Drifter, Final Fantasy IX, and Massive Chalice will be my only purchases this sale. But I also bought Inside and Virginia on PS4 today. Plus corrosivefrost gifted me Kholat, and I'm super grateful for that :)

I'm in for some good times.

So I picked up and have been playing Seraph based on recommendations here, and the first 2 hours or so (just long enough to pass the refund window, of course) were lots of fun... and then it just gets worse and worse and worse. The health pool of enemies inflates massively, the upgrades you get you have little to no control over and are pretty weak compared to said health pool growth, and the "difficulty" of the game amounts to little more than tediously needing holding the fire button for entirely too long to kill whatever you come across.

For example, I had upgraded all my weapons as high as I could during my run (except the shotgun which I didn't even unlock), and it takes more ammo than you can carry + is in the room of the final boss to chip away the first "phase", and there are 3 phases, so after you expend all of that you get to use your base weapon, which again I upgraded, and it's almost hilariously slow at damaging the boss. Phase 3 is the only one which has killed me but I just don't feel like spending so long waiting to get there again right now. I might go back later. But honestly aside from the story, if the health pools and weak upgrades are indicative of the game going forward, I see no reason to keep playing.

It's a vastly disappointing way for the game to progress because it seems polished and fun at first. And clearly some people enjoy it. But unless you get it for $1 or just like grinding slowly in a fast-paced game, I can't recommend it. If I could refund it after going this far I would do that over beating it, I think I'd get more enjoyment having my $5 back.

My final haul of cheap indie goodness:

Bleed
Crypt of the Necrodancer
Ghostbusters: The Video Game
N++
Odallus: The Dark Call
Oniken (bundled with Odallus)
Particle Mace
Pony Island
Refunct

I went back and forth on lots of titles but decided to shave off any extra fat. It's not always about the money. I realized that I shouldn't be adding to my backlog too much. Even some $1-$2 games didn't make the cut but that's just the way it is.

I'm trying to get a 25 day old refund.

Please let the Christmas spirit melt the icy heart of whomever finds my request.

they're quite random, I guess it depends on the dude behind support, I drunk bought the amnesia game and barely played it (like half an hour) and I tried to refund it after 2 weeks multiple times and they rejected me over and over lol

So I'm looking for old school/throwback FPSs

I already bought:

DOOM
Serious Sam Collection
Hard Reset Redux
Shadow Warrior
Painkiller Black

I also have the Classic id pack with Quake, Hexen, classic Doom etc.

Am I missing anything?

Stalker games, but they are slower paced.

Singularity on GOG, not on sale at the moment unfortunately.

A shotgun blast to the dick is better than Shadow Warrior.

Best use of $6? Frontrunner is Abzu, because I'm lazy and it looks pretty. I'm very sure it'll be cheaper soon or in a bundle.

I know it's not $6 but if you can pay a tiny bit more for Subnautica, that game offers a lot more and is awesome. One of the best single player survival games.

I hate survival games. If a game wants me to eat or build a fire or whatever so I can keep playing, I immediately turn it off. Real life makes me do that, so I eat and eat and eat, and now I'm fat. I don't want my games reminding me of how much I have to eat.

No it's not, it's a very good game for what the poster is looking for.

Also get Serious Sam Classics: Revolution for a pretty penny, it comes with both original Serious Sam encounter games and an HD updated version of the two combined.
