Steam Winter Sale 2016 thread of hoping for better deals elsewhere

Nah, there's a in-game clock. So you don't have to wait whole seasons to move into spring, for example.

I believe Animal Crossing went off of your actual season, if I'm not mistaken? Assuming that you didn't mess with your DS's clock. It's not like that or anything.
Yeah AC uses real time clock. Ah good, was worried about Stardew.

Amongst the games on my Steam wishlist, I've been keeping an eye on Seraph, Ghost 1.0, The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and The Witness. I've heard enough overwhelming yet vague praise about The Witness that I'm eventually gonna get it and jump in blind, but can anyone recommend/try and sell me on those 3 other games?

Also, between PS4 and PC versions of The Witness, is there any reason to prefer one over the other?

Lot of people commenting on Ghost already but I'll throw in my impressions, I think Ghost was really good and not sure I really got frustrated with it at any point. The lone stealth section is optional, which is a nice touch.

On Seraph, I'll say the game starts out really strong but the second half of the game was a lot of me wishing it was over or better. It gets super grindy and bullet-spongy, ESPECIALLY the end boss, holy crap. There's a lot of good in the game but I feel like it's hit or miss whether you'll enjoy anything past the first couple hours.

Ghost is a great metroidvania. The stealth bit sucks ass. Thats about it.

its also not fucking 3 horus like most of them are.

edit: speaking of Ghosts, hows Ghost of a Tale trucking along its early access?

Just beat Pony Island (getting 100% now) and I recommend it to everyone for a short ride. The less you know about the game the better IMO (it's a metagame).

In the end I bought Hitman (thanks to the SE discount), Braid, Teslagrad, Rusty Lake Hotel, Rambo, Ben There Dan That and Gemini Rue. Not bad, I'll take a look now in the Hidden Gems thread to see if there's anything else I could buy.

I remember making various posts in the July thread praising [Ghost 1.0] as I played it. My final conclusion:

And since I'm here talking about it, might as well share again the Steam review I wrote for it:

I do like me some 2D stealth though. Sounds like we're not quite talking Mark Of The Ninja-quality, but if it's even on Gunpoint's or RONIN's level, I'll be more than excited.

I'm still not sure about Seraph... Then again, I could just get them both for 11€, it's not like I can't afford that :D

I think I'll skip buying Trails in the Sky for now. I'm already in the middle of playing SMT 3, with Grandia II on my backlog, and Persona 5 is on it's way...

Thanks for your opinions.

Possibly the Transformers games. We're just guessing on that one but the games have had big discounts recently and when Activision drops a license it usually happens at the end of the year. Seems odd with the new film coming up, but only they know if it was profitable enough for them.

But the Transformers games are so expansive with the DLC ;_;

Thanks. Not that much interested in this one as in Dredd Vs. Death^^

Bah, Dredd vs Death is trash. At least Countdown Sector 106 is pretty good if you're into choose your own adventure books.

Seems odd that Rebellion doesn't make more use of all those licenses it owns. Just Dredd vs Death and the great Rogue Trooper and then nothing for the last decade.

Absolutely none of the dlc is needed if you just want to play the campaigns.

Silent Hill Homecoming has rarely ever been on sale before and is 85% off now. Not sure if it has a licensed song in it but if you are extremely worried. Also Rambo: The Game, Falling Skies: The Game, and the remaining externally published Adventure Time games all have some signs they might be pulled. EEP 12, which is some german garbage simulator game that is on deep discount and has been replaced but a subsequent year. Some people think the Transformers games might get pulled. A few people think the TMNT games might get pulled. It's hard to say. It's a tradeoff between expenditure and risk of missing out.

I only have 80 removed games & 37 purchase disabled. I'll never belong to the 1% :(

I went from 90 to 110 in the last two months and all it took was extensively buying keys off shady russian key resellers, buying weird retail garbage on Amazon and eBay, and camping the RemGC discussion forum to get a lead on stuff that is in the process of being removed. If you don't own the Digital Homicide games I think you can get 28 removed games for $2.75 from them if they're still offering them.

Given that you play a lot of puzzle/adventure games, that's probably true. I think there are a handful of ah-hah! moments and I agree that the optional puzzles are more engaging than most of the main game ones. To me maybe a good point of comparison as to what I liked about the game is Portal 1. Portal is short, relatively easy, and greatly enhanced by its quality presentation and plot/ambiance elements. The Turing Test is somewhat short, relatively easy, and greatly enhanced by the presence of the plot and themes explored outside the main mechanics. I can't speak to how it would evaluate if it was just the puzzles presented in a drab way. I think like Portal the game is ripe for DLC or a sequel that really stretches the mechanics a little bit further or has a higher degree of difficulty.

while the Turing Test was on the easier side, there were ah-ha moments for me, but those ah-ha moments took like 20-30 seconds to find, the optional ones were good, and some of the later game puzzles.. the thing I liked it about it is that they were pretty good at introducing new concepts and twists to the puzzles, which is why it seemed like the difficulty was general lower, because they didn't want to introduce a new element and make it too obtuse what to do.

I was pleasantly surprised by the story and the direction it went was pretty good... also TOM was right.

would definitely buy a road to Gehenna type expansion for it.. I feel like Portal is a good comparison because the whole package is really well put together.
