Today in peak TV failures and podunk services no one gives a shit about:

I got the urge to watch some exciting Yahoo! Screen original programming like Sin City Saints and Burning Love. Unfortunately, Yahoo! Screen shut down. But the good news is a while after shutting down Yahoo! Screen, Hulu sold their free tier to Yahoo!, who opened the service Yahoo! View to watch TV on Yahoo!. Unfortunately Yahoo! View does not seem to have the rights to Yahoo! Screen programming, so I can't watch Sin City Saints or Burning Love.

They're still up there (or at least Sin City Saints is): https://www.yahoo.com/tv/tagged/originals

It just looks like Yahoo forgets about Yahoo like the rest of us.

I recommend 2 things:

1) Watch Other Space. It takes a little to get going, but it gets pretty great.

2) Rip the files from the site because who knows when it'll be taken down for good.

I think you're confused. That's Yahoo! TV; I'm talking about Yahoo! View.

Ahead of you on both counts. Just paid for lifetime PlayOn to up my completely legal under US law recording capability. I'm currently recording all of Seeso through my 7 day trial Seeso-via-Amazon membership.

Oh, I was more addressing how you could still watch the series, not Yahoo's endemic and systemic failures as a platform, brand, and general on-going concern.

I'm glad I was able to use Chrome inspector to grab all of Other Space off Yahoo Screen. This thing is going to be gone soon and no one is going to remember this show.

So many balls dropped. Didn't post last night's numbers. Didn't do predictions for Fox's The Mick. I think we're all still hungover.

When the hell is Amazing Race coming back?
Everything say TBA, its always 2 seasons a year its almost been a year since last season started.
And apparently they are about to start filming S31 when 29 hasn't even aired an episode yet.

CBS ain't worried about running it into the ground they just straight up nuking it.
Yeah, they pushed it to April, making it basically a summer series. It also means that they haven't even begun production on a new season, so they may just be trying to do one cycle a year.
It doesn't matter too much if you're a fan, since TAR Asia and TAR China came back this year to fill that gap, and I'm not really looking forward to the dumb gimmick of mashing up complete strangers into teams (it's clear that the US version is running on its last legs with the gimmick casting).

Wait, this has to be some kind of ripping/piracy thing surely? I can't imagine Netflix being okay with someone downloading their entire catalog for private use.

Or is this like how we just pretend it's okay to download ROMs because we might have owned a copy of Chrono Trigger back in the 90s. lol

Irrespective of whether or not they're OK with it (which is not even a little important to me), time-shifting and format-shifting are both legal, well supported by case law on DVRs and the earlier BetaMax case. As I linked, PlayOn operates legally in the clear and has for a decade, they've never been sued, they're a pretty high profile business, it's not a fly-by-night operation. No one has sued them, and there's not any relevant case law that would suggest they'd win except Aereo, but the Aereo case was decided based on very specific regulations about rebroadcast and that doesn't apply here since they're not rebroadcasting to me, they're facilitating my recording. So again there's not really any angle where settled law says this is not OK. I'll rely on the fact that Netflix's multi-bazillion dollar legal team haven't shut it down for 10 years and the fact that they operate openly and publicly as a business that advertises widely as a sign that everything is, for the moment, above-board legally.

Or is this like how we just pretend it's okay to download ROMs because we might have owned a copy of Chrono Trigger back in the 90s. lol

The ROM thing seems straightforward: If you own a copy of the exact product you're downloading, no one is harmed by you doing it instead of ripping it yourself -- and the resulting product is bytewise identical. If you are using the fact that you've paid for something at some point in your life to pirate it now, you're going increasingly out on a limb in terms of morality.

I think the closest comparison to it being shady is that it would be immoral to, say, buy a CD, rip it, and then sell the CD and pretend that's fair use to continue with the music. But it wouldn't be immoral to buy a DVR, record stuff, and then switch cable providers. So it's not immediately obvious what the right metaphor is here in terms of other fair-use situations.

I mean, I'm not one to throw rocks in glass houses since the only way I can watch Australian content is to pretend I live in Australia. And I could almost understand recording something that you might be watching live... but from reading the description of the program, it makes it seem like it just scrapes these service providers for content and downloads all of their content for you to watch later on. Is there anything that stops you from just downloading hundreds of hours of programming every day?

No, you tell it what to record, you can't automate anything.

Is there anything that stops you from just downloading hundreds of hours of programming every day?

It records live, so presumably the maximum amount of programming you could record per day would be 24 hours.

Re: Apprentice, I think NBC underestimated the damage that's been done to that brand.

I haven't watched an episode in 10+ years, and I'm sure as hell not going to watch one now. I know the idea just instantly turned me off.

Ahh, recording "live" is probably where they skirt around the legalities of it. I just assumed they it could catch the direct link to a video file and just download it, enabling you to downloading hundreds of movies/shows at the same time, like one of those youtube downloaders.

I thought B99 had sub 1.0 ratings the way people talk sometimes.

Also the OT (oh yes) will probably be up in a couple of hours.

Thank God, I need something to fill my hole in my soul left by the wait between the When Calls the Heart Christmas episode and the When Calls the Heart season three premiere in February.

That's quite shit for Celebrity Apprentice. And I'm definitely not watching it after reading this article:
http://www.thedailybeast.com/articl...r-berates-famous-women-produced-by-trump.html
The New Celebrity Apprentice is, as its title says, “new.” It is, more than the version hosted by the current president-elect, a product of our current times.
It obsesses over personal branding and the value of self. It celebrates our enthusiasm for simultaneously resuscitating and belittling the careers of has-been stars and D-list celebrities.
And, more than all of that, it promotes the idea that women are dispensable, that they exist to be ridiculed, that misogyny rules, and that male hubris trumps—heh—any superior, intellectual quality from a female counterpart.

Just started The Shield, it's a pretty good cop drama so far and I like the characters enough to keep going. I like dutch boy a lot. Im 10 episodes in and so far it has been formulaic, is the whole show like this?

Youre talking about one of the best shows ever as if it's some run of the mill USA show that you watch out of the corner of your eye while checking your phone.

It's good haha, but so far it has been crime of the week-esque which I didn't expect. Still though the show has been great.

It starts off as one of those procedural cop shows.
But by season
3
onward, it emerge as its own beast.

Bones had quite the triumphant return for its final season, as you can see.

So, out of curiosity, what show is this image from?

It's the second-to-last scene of Castle. They're lying in pools of their own blood after being shot.

The very next scene to close out the whole show, I might add, is of those two characters alive, uninjured, happily married with young children. It lasts about 15 seconds, then it ends.
