German officials who have held talks with members of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's transition team have not been able to figure out what kind of foreign and security policy his administration wants to pursue, a spokesman said on Friday.

"It ultimately remains the case that there still is no clear, coherent and comprehensive picture of what kind of foreign and security policy the new Trump administration wants to pursue in the world," Foreign Ministry spokesman Martin Schaefer told a regular government news conference.

Trump has repeatedly praised Russian President Vladimir Putin and nominated people seen as friendly toward Moscow to senior administration posts.

Should Trump seek to improve relations with Kremlin, he could unsettle Germany, whose Chancellor Angela Merkel has supported the extension of European Union sanctions against Russia over its role in the conflict in Ukraine.

No surprise there isn't it?

My guess the rest of europe also doesn't know what the fuck is going on.

Seems easy to me.

Whatever the Kremlin's foreign policy is, that's Trump.

They can go to the website of Dugin's think tank if they want the long game.

Following in the footsteps of Theresa May, it seems. Only more tweets and an even more urgent sense of how concerning / unsettling all of this is... :-/

They just need to open up a German history book to 1933-1945 to figure it out... or are those pages 'redacted' from German schoolbooks?

I don't think Trump's foreign policy goals are to expand US living space or commit genocide.

They're all just making the shit up on the fly.
Pretty much.

Euh.. what are you trying to say here. The Germans are well aware of their history. More than anyone else. And it also seems like they are the ones who learned the most from it, while the rest of the world likes to do a repeat.

Response from Trump: "It's like really simple. It's so simple, I have a son, and he's great, the best, we still go and toss a football around now and then, alright, the greatest, and he thought my foreign affairs policy was incredible. Now coming from him, that's saying something tremendous. There's a clear path and we're gonna walk that path. We're not going to deviate from that path, because, you know, it's the best path and why would you leave the best path? Am I right? And that path is what is in the end in the best interest for the American people and those with the American interest in mind. It's going to make America great again, is what I'm saying."

Trump's tweets are pretty much what the current spin is on RT/SputnikNews.

Ex Russian propaganda goes on how FBI didn't check the servers. Hours later says the same thing.

Eh I wouldn't sell them that highly. Far right populism is still on the rise in Germany maybe not as quickly due to Merkel.

True. Extreme right and fascism is rising everywhere, but if you look at Europe, all of Germany's neighbors are on a worse parth than Germany itself. I mean, sure, lets wait till the next German elections. I'm not surprised by anything anymore.

But this is all kind of off topic. I was just replying to the stupid remark about Germany "redacting" the second world war in schoolbooks, because it is a stupid remark.

Most ignorant post I've seen on GAF in a long time. Go to Germany and learn a few things about redemption and civilization.

I say that as a french with a grand father who was imprisoned by nazis.

Ehm sorry, but we Germans hear about our lands mistakes almost our whole school life. I was really sick of it after a long time and repeats, but it also hammered important knowledge into me.

What? When Russia annexed the Crimea, Germany was the sole major country trying to prevent sanctions against the Kremlin since they depend so much on their oil and gas, and even when they did impose sanctions, they were utterly toothless not targeting Putin or any high ranking Russian officials or the large energy giant Gazprom because they couldn't anger Russia too much.

I don't know what is so hard to understand. A beautiful 1000 mile American made and paid for southern wall, a gorgeous secret plan to defeat ISIS and being BFFs with Russia/Assange. Thats a very easy to understand foregin policy.

It is literally the only thing we learn about in history from the 6th grade onwards. Hitler this, Hitler that, sprinkle in some WWI for variety.

Any source for that?

You might remember some of that wrong, Germany has been defending these sanctions against some European countries wanting to loosen them. There are many points of confrontation like Nord Stream 2, defense contracts etc., but in general it's been a big supporter.

Switzerland.
Yeah that was one I had in mind.

Did you write that at Starbucks, too? Germany has been redeeming herself for decades now. You have no freaking idea what you're talking about if you compare Trump to Hitler.

Yeah that was one I had in mind.

well it might be my ignorance on the subject. a right-wing populist party is the biggest party we got at the moment and while they're bad i always felt that they're not as bad as our neighbours' .

extreme right parties have been in decline for a decade afaik.

Switzerland.

We just stopped pissing our pants about our right-wing-shithead party having the largest share of voters for a quarter century(!), because they still top out around a 30 percent share of votes and our unique system of government prevents them from doing any more harm than they've been doing so far.

Nevertheless, Switzerland has actually been kind of an avant-garde when it comes to having a constant and corrosive far-right presence on the political landscape. We've just learned to somehow live with it over the years... :-/

yeah, that's what i meant. it's certainly not a great situation but i still prefer it to our neighbours (and germany's).
