Just got home from MAGFest. Played a few new board and card games. I can't even count how many times we ended up playing Secret Hitler, though. I'm getting pretty damn good at being a fascist.

None from this con. I actually got all dolled up and into costume yesterday just to spend the entire day in the board game area and arcade. Felt a little silly not getting any photos taken for all that time and effort, but I was having too much fun to care.
I've got a couple costumes I'm working on for Katsucon in February. An original design of mine based on FFVIII Ifrit and a pin up design of Sailor Neptune. Hoping to get some new photos then.
How far away would it have been for you? It would probably still be a pretty good con even without friends if you could make a day trip of it.
I'm definitely a bit spoiled by all these cons that are only 45 minutes away.

Tossing myself in the pile here. Found out 2 days ago that I landed my first full time Graphic Design job and am feeling pretty good about that. Going straight from 7 years of retail straight into the beginning of my career job, so that's pretty scary, but at the same time exciting. Anyone else got some rad stuff going on?

I live in New England, so far, but not too far. Never even been to a con, so I wouldn't feel comfortable going alone. My friend I was going to go with has been multiple times though.
It's no big deal. There's always next year.

So, like most jobs I obtained my opportunity through networking. I went to college with a girl who is higher up in Hollywood Feed's (Place I'm working for now) Creative Department. She ended up emailing me that they were hiring for a graphic design position for the company. Not only did I have to send in a Resume, I also had to send in my portfolio of work as well. Mine, was a 31 page tabloid (11x17) spread of all my best work and projects. They ended up emailing me that they like my portfolio and wanted to invite me to their headquarters and offer me an interview. When I arrived I explained some pieces in my portfolio on a large TV. Afterwards they asked me the usual questions you get from any other job; What can you offer us? What would you change about us? etc. The interview was with the president of the company Shawn McGhee, my friend from college, and another Marketing manager. They were laughing and very agreeing to my answers and offered me part 2 of the interview; of course I said,"YES." I could choose from 4 projects and complete 2 of them within a 2 week period. I slaved over them and even took a vacation from my retail job to get them perfect.

Once I finished them, I had to present my projects in front of the same group once more. They absolutely loved what I had made and didn't offer a single criticism. They congratulated me and told me that I was in the Final Four (Joke) and that they'd make a choice that Friday; it was Wednesday. Before I could make it down the stairs back to my car, the marketing manager stopped me and said that I got the job. Oh the excitement... they said that they couldn't wait until Friday to say I got the job. Probably the best feeling I have had, made four years of college and art throughout my life feel worthwhile.
I'm also trying to get all of my stuff on the web as well, using Adobe Portfolio to get the right look, then I'm going to brush up on my coding and make it myself. I audited coding classes in college because it seemed important and now its my new new years resolution. My previous resolution was... get a job.
That Mega Man race was nutty.
Remember that its okay to be nervous.
I felt like I was going a million miles per hour during my interview, I took a pause and told my interviewer, "Sorry, a little nervous", took a nice deep breath and continued on. Really helped with my composure.
