Search Twitter for the latest meetup tweets
Dragon Quest IX has two neat local multiplayer features that, due to the typical population density in the U.S., not a lot of players are going to get to experience.
This thread hopes to change this.
The two features are:
If you missed the official meetups or just plain want more, here's what you can do.
Figure out a public place and time that you think would be conducive to a bunch of people playing DS for a few hours. (I was at what I thought was a rather successful event, and we never had more than 8 people at one time, if you need an idea of how many people might show.)
Tweet your plan to Twitter using the tags #DQIX and #meetup, like this one. Start off with the general area your meetup is in. The link at the end should go to a Google map... it's not strictly necessary but could be helpful. But the critical part is the tags.
If everyone sticks to these tags, then finding meetups should be as easy as searching Twitter for #DQIX #meetup (or even just DQIX meetup). Like the link that I started this post with.
Then post some details about your meetup here, as well. If you need more details than Twitter can handle, you could post those details here and link your tweet to your post. (Which I'll be doing in a moment, right here.)
If plans change, post new tweets, again using the #DQIX #meetup tags, so hopefully nobody ends up going to a dead meetup.
Finally, for attendees: please understand that you might show up and not be able to just quickly grab a map and leave. If people are playing multiplayer, they'll have to exit and go back to Stornway to share maps with you. Hang out and watchboss fights in particular can be pretty entertainingand you'll get a shot soon enough. Plan to stick around a bit. Make it a fun event.
Happy meeting-up!

The two features are:
- Canvassing for guests. This uses the DS' Tag Mode to seek out nearby systems that are also doing the same thing, and exchanges character data and treasure maps. You'll only be able to fully expand the inn in Stornway if you meet up with 30 people in this fashion. And besides, it's kind of neat to have all these other players staying in your game's inn!
- Multiplayer. After a certain point in the game, you'll gain the ability to host other players in your game world, either wandering off on their own or joining you as a party member in your battles. Take it from methis is a lot of fun, particularly when diving in to treasure maps together.
