Horizon Zero Dawn | Cinematic Trailer

.

I think that is specular shimmering happening due to sudden focus shifting , if that what you are asking for .

Do people consider FFXV an RPG? This seems like the same kind of thing - and that is wonderful IMO. This game may just be my most anticipated now, outside of SpiderMan
Ah it's funny because I was thinking just earlier today: " Ok, I'm about 11hrs in FFXV, and I haven't really seen more RPG mechanics than what's described for Horizon, aside seeing Stats I can't do much about except equiping gear (1 outfit, 1 "jewelry") and food/ Pots. "

Looks great, but the facial animation is pretty poor. Everyone looks either stoic or happy despite the situations presented in the trailers. Guess ND has me spoiled.

okay well that trailer finally got me hyped for the game. It was originally a skip for me and that face seems like its gotten some major tweakage since the original trailer.

This has got me excited again. Though I'm still slightly wary.

The reveal trailer hyped me up, but the gameplay videos inbetween were uninspiring to me; not sure exactly why. Maybe when playing the game, the sense of a story, characters, and full-scale environment will give life to the gameplay and to the game as a whole.

Don't feel bad - RPGs in general do not 'demo' well. A few quick clips of gameplay, and if you liked the combat demonstrations then you're getting a good idea on how you'll feel about the game proper, are more then enough to sell the game.

Do you know what, it may well be. That was my first thought but the more I look at it the worse it gets but it's entirely possible that I'm looking at it too much so I just can't see what's actually happening there.

What I keep coming back to is that if there was some sort of issue there, it would be so simple for Guerrilla Games to just not shop that bit. It seems unlikely that it would be shown in a video unless it's supposed to be doing that. :)

How spoilery is this? I'm getting the game but I kinda wanna see this trailer too.

If you're concerned about spoiling any part of the story, I'd skip it. It's not real detailed, but there are some plot broad strokes and a few character reveals you might want to have in-game.

Shaping up very well, hope they put that New Vegas writer to good use.

True but in this case Horizon has looked fantastic at every show imo, not sure what some expect to see with the combat? looks better then most rpg's on that front.

Her lines are so corny haha. The storytelling seems mediocre.

It looks like the visuals have improved some. How much of that is actually running on PS4Pro as opposed to running on a PC, I'm not sure.

do you mean in terms of design because otherwise it shouldn't be that hard to top the cities of FFXV

In terms of design, story, and exploration and side quests. Final Fantasy has always been known to have great towns and cities. FF-X and FFXIV, FFXII all are amazing in regards to grand musical locales and sidequests. Been going downhill since the 13 trilogy big time.

i'm SO HYPED for this!

not watching the video - i'm on blackout until release.

can't wait to see it in 4K with my Pro.
i hope the graphics don't ruin me forever toward other games. :P

Ordered the collectors edition, want statue of Aloy. This game just gets better and better everytime they show something.

Here goes a tip : watch it on mute lol
It was what I did.
Yeah I saw the new scenario, tribes and everything else...but at least I dont have a freakin idea what they talked about it so no script spoilers for me lol

Oh and I forgot : FUCKIN EPIC !

I was in the Scalebound thread, and gave XBox fans some hope with a possible Scorpio delay I heard about. A delay would mean a better CPU for the box, so none of them really seem that upset about it. Personally, it might be better for them...

Link?

Wow what an amazing trailer and awesome art direction. Cool to see a lot of minority characters too, and they seem to all have big roles.

Come on now, what PlayStation exclusives don't live up to they're trailer visuals ? I'll wait.

I think that when we look at it as an open world action game alone it brings some concerns about it's structure, about the possibility of it end up shallow. But I've come through some informations in this thread, and it seems deep enough to make a good game: possibly great writing, RPG elements to level up skills and customize your character (gear and weapon), side-quests (hopefully well designed), weapon and armor modifications, apparently great enemy and scenario variety.

It will of course depend on their execution. If Guerrilla manages to make these things right it seems there's enough elements to make the game very interesting. We shall only hope they don't play Ubisoft here.

A couple of questions if I may:

1) This is a real RPG, right? Similar to the Witcher 3 or Skyrim?
2) It is true open world?
3) Any estimates of how many hours the main story will take and how many hours including all side content?

Wow, please let this all be explorable and not just be a pretty backdrop like in FFXV.
FFXV was hugely diappointing on the city front. I hope Horizon Zero Dawn will compete with the beautiful and immersive Witcher 3 cities.

4) Any footage of city life? :)

There is just no way the game ends up being as good as it looks. Every trailer looks better and better, I'm tempted to just say fuck it and go into full hype mode. But I'm terrified of being let down with this one, it looks WAY too good. There has to be a catch somewhere.

About the question number 1, I've just read this and may be the best piece of information in that regard:

"Things get chaotic fast in the intense combat of Horizon Zero Dawn, thanks to machines coming to help each other and attacking Aloy from every direction. So far we’ve seen a lot of action, but not much in terms of what makes the game an RPG. During our trip, Guerrilla stated many times that it set out to make an RPG that’s also an action game. The RPG genre made the most sense for the project based on all the systems and quests it wanted to include. “It’s more of an organic process, but the one thing we did state at some point during development is that we were making an action/RPG and that it was shaping up to be a hybrid of both,” says director Mathijis de Jonge.

While Horizon's RPG elements aren’t super complex, they are there. Various quests are scattered throughout the world and you can upgrade Aloy in various ways. As she levels up, you earn points, which can then be used to purchase upgrades for her. Furthermore, Aloy can equip modifications to her weapons and armor that can increase your attack power or resistance to certain attacks.

Because the game is more of a hybrid of the action and RPG genre, Guerrilla didn’t want to leave anyone behind. “What we wanted to avoid is complicated menus,” de Jonge says. “We also didn’t want to go too deep with the RPG features we were developing. We wanted to have a certain level of accessibility and understandability for players. We also didn’t want to go too hardcore with stats, so at some point we just cut it off and said we weren’t going to go any further because it would confuse players."

Can't tell anytinhg about the other questions though.

Guerilla is getting much better at facial animation. It isn't Uncharted, but it's WAY better than Killzone was...

Really interested to play this but that was some, uh...mid-2000s video game-ass writing and vocal performance.

This continues to look like somebody threw Enslaved in an open world, and I'm totally okay with that, though.
