Horizon Zero Dawn | Cinematic Trailer

What the fuck is unattractive about Aloy!? Someone hold me back I'm about to freak

Game looks crazy awesome and you could probably count the games of similar scale that have objectively better facial animations on one hand.

This crazy ass graphics arms race is tiring. Looking forward to tomorrow to get some hot & fresh Nintendo in my life.

I am pretty sure that the people criticizing it have a reference point. There was a guy a few pages back that said something like "I would thought that Sony first party studios would have the same kind of quality acting of UC4 from now on".

I think some people dont realize how bad animations are in open world games to expect that much from Horizon.
Acting is a different complaint than animations though.

da fuq has anyone's attractiveness got to do with anything? I want a good story and good gameplay mechanics. She can be the worlds most attractive or ugly woman - I care not. Story. Gameplay. You Feel Me?

Was it really? Enslaved looked nice, had an okay narrative, but was far too linear and far too easy. This game has also given me plenty of "I hope it's not like Enslaved" vibes too.

It wasn't GOTY material or anything, but it was given far less attention than its quality would indicate.

Why has this thread turned into debating if some fictional woman is attractive and quoting the same post over and over again to pile on with what others have already said? Can we please move on and talk about the actual trailer?

You can talk about whatever you want, the thread is not limited to one topic of conversation at any given time. It's one aspect of the trailer and someone's reaction people are choosing to discuss, how does it stop you from discussing other things? Not that your post added any additional discussion about the trailer anyways, aside from complaining that people aren't discussing something else.

I don't think she is ugly, but probably for same reason most people in film and TV are attractive. No one wants to look at ugly people!

Rockstar and Ubisoft both release open world games with good facial animation. Infamous Second Son would be a great example. Sunset Overdrive is another.

I'm only impressed with Rockstar, but then again they have the budget. Ubisoft on the other hand, no. The Assassin's Creed games are able to achieve good facial animation at times because the world isn't that big. Infamous Second Son isn't big, same goes for Sunset Overdrive. Horizon, we will have to see but it's said to be as big as
Velen
from Witcher 3.

I think it's the opposite where animation in open world games has received a monumental boost in quality this gen that Horizon, at least animation wise, it's really sticking out. The asset quality sticks out, but not the animation. It's a bit uncanny valley.

I mean literally no one ITT are expecting that so why are people acting like they are? The posts about the facial animation have been incredibly reasonable yet you'd think it was vitriolic based on the defensiveness.

MaKTaiL's posts have been FAR from reasonable. Seriously trying to compare it to Infamous: Second Son (which I like but come on, it was an extremely short open world game) and not understanding that people have to actually put hours of work into these animations is completely ridiculous.

The animations look fine for an open world RPG, about on par with Witcher 3's ones from what I've seen.

Anyway, amazing trailer. I really can't wait for this game.

Are we talking in cutscenes or in game because I don't know of many open world games that match Horizon's animations in game except perhaps FF XV.

Beauty is celebrated and sold I am not arguing that. I am saying its not what I look for in a video game. Don't throw ugly people under the bus - we have a lot to offer ;-(

She has a model-like face and body.

What the fuck are some of you talking about?

I'll wait for some conversations instead of cutscenes before discussing facial animations tho, but as of right now? Best in the business by far for open world games.

Are american games afraid of creating attractive female characters? The appeal of your character from the onset should be their design. Male characters have the benefit of looking handsome, muscular, or "cool", but it seems whenever a female character is introduced the default design is straight to manjaw mc manly. It seems like strong women aren't allowed to be even vaguely attractive, they need to have masculine features to mirror supposedely masculine feats and traits.

Like, I get it, she's some tribal woman, she won't have time to trim her eyelashes or put on make up. But it's clear they've gone out of their way to fuck up the shape of her face to look like some sort of egg.

There's a reason why 2Bs design is getting so much attention while miss "random redhead you can find on the train on you way to work" is going unnoticed.

It's one of those things where you look at your character and you think... well fuck. I like this game but I don't want to draw fanart of that.

This post really feels like it was designed to offend the usual sensibilities of GAF I couldn't help but to laugh, hahaha.

It's like someone who said something in a loud room and then the room immediately went deathly silent, lol.

Why does the size of the open world matter with these story cutscenes?

Most supermodels are skinny twigs, Aloy sports some decent muscle that immediately sets her apart from the typical supermodel look.

I actually prefer her body type because i don't even like the thin overused supermodel look fit thicker women can be super hot imo.

If people think thats ugly then thats the media's fault imo for promoting that look for so long.

Well, there are complaints about the facial animation from these cutscenes.

Right, but I mean, why say that the reason Sunset Overdrive, Infamous SS, and some others have better facial animations is because the open world is bigger? I don't see why that would make a difference when we are just dealing with story cutscenes here.

This is hilarious and somewhat relevant on a personal level. A friend of mine recently asked me if I thought Natalie Portman was starting to look "Portly" and I asked him what the hell he was talking about. He then said that she seemed to have recently gained weight, and I told him that I'm sorry that she's not Kate Moss twig-like that he seems to prefer, but is instead not only in good shape, but especially good shape for her age. He then mentioned some crap about "Americans just being used to larger women". Ugh.

I mean, she is pregnant, but so?

Wow that looked amazing. The only "issue" I have is with the faces and not the animations, but the skin. Something weird about them. They look waxy. Like they don't have pores or actual skin textures. They are very smooth and shiny looking in some shots.

I liked Second Son but its a really small game all things considered. There are like half a dozen enemy types in the game and they're basically just slightly different versions of each other sometimes with a gimmick.

GG didnt show too much skin. Alloy doesnt wear latex clothing, doesnt show ass or boobs. Thats the issue. Generally speaking, her character model is fine and she seems like a well done new lead.

That was an incredibly disappointing game. But when we are dealing with facial animations in cutscenes, I doubt there's a huge amount more in Horizon that Infamous. It's just that the gameplay between scenes will be way more substantial.

I think she is quite ugly. Might as well be ron pearlman, tbh. However, this has nothing to do with how great the game will be. Let's hope it's a good game without an over sexualized MC. I have no problem with either type of MC, as long as the gameplay is good.

Yeah! It just looks like everyone has a ton of makeup on haha. It might just be the lighting in some places though. Other materials in the game look great though. Hair looks nice, clothing is rendered really well. Metal as well.

Horizon has more than just story cutscenes to see facial animations, it has dialogue branches similar to Dragon Age Inquisition. The game is doing way more than the others. The bigger the open world the harder it is to make facial animations right. Those games do not have massive worlds compared to the likes of The Witcher 3, Skyrim, Fallout 4, etc. This is the reason why Sunset Overdrive, Infamous SS etc., have better facial animation.

I totally understand the unremarkable facial animation during gameplay. I can't expect a lot about of it there. I'm just disappointed in the performance captured story cutscene facial animation.

Agreed. I love her design and commend GG for not going with the typical scantily clad big-tittied sex object as the main character.

Uh yea i'm aware. The reason people named open world is that people were trying to craft the narrative that open world games don't have good animation when the total opposite is true during this gen. There's been a monumental improvement in that regard.

Since the trailer is mostly comprised of cutscenes I was referring to them.
