Sony Playstation: First Party Studios & their Current Projects

Damn. God of War and TLOUII are going to be fighting for the closing gameplay segment. And I want to see gameplay from both.

Though I could see them saving TLOUII gameplay for PSX as others have mentioned.

yeah because after I wrote this, people have started to write their predictions ^^

Everyone seems certain that Guerilla Cambridge is making a new Killzone and, given the hiring details and a logic of creative conservatism, I see why that's the assumption. If I were betting on it, I would also put my money on a new Killzone.

That said, I feel like it could also be a new Resistance. Any reason why this is out of the question?

I would love a Resistance 3 remaster, or even a reboot of resistance with a new campaign and an excellent MP in the vein of resistance 2.

I can see Guerrilla Cambridges starting off the show w/ Killzone.

A Killzone reveal at the beginning may not have the same WOW factor as the GOW reveal @ 2016 or TLG @ 2015 but a new Killzone on the updated Decima engine might get that KZ2 level hype train going.

Then close it out with SP's new IP at the end with a 6-8 min gameplay demo. Sony shows the confidence in SP to close out their show
and carry them off into the sunset as back-to-back-to-back E3 champs. Vision it.

Assuming GG Cambridge are working on the next Killzone, it won't be ready for reveal this year. They only launched RIGS a few months ago. Even if pre-production was complete and they were able to move straight on to full development, even by E3 next year they'll only have had a hair over 18 months working on it.

That said, I feel like it could also be a new Resistance. Any reason why this is out of the question?

Sadly, Resistance is probably dead. R3 and Burning Skies both sold terribly, the plot is more or less wrapped up now and GG Cambridge has experience with the Killzone franchise.

I really hope, SSM is still working on that cancelled game. I can't believe 250~ people working on GoW, there have to be another team working on something else.

I think (hope) they'll work on something different after GoW launches, but I'm pretty certain Stig's game is dead and buried. I mean, when they cancelled it they let about a quarter of the whole studio go, as I recall. Makes no sense to go through all that, fire the creative team and then bring it back with someone else at the helm 3+ years later.

Ugh, does it have to be a Killzone? That franchise can die, and I am pretty sure most people would agree that Guerrilla's talents can be better spent elsewhere.

level 5 will unveil their AAA jrpg collaborated with sieja

but they're making ni no kuni 2 you say

-load of crock-
well obviously they have two teams

gosh darn it

Eff that, I like Killzone. Yeah, come at me neogaf

Killzone needs a reboot so bad is not even funny. The lore of the game is too good. They need to go back to the beginning of the Helghast revolution and let us play as the Helhghast (a major missed opportunity by Shadow Fall). Time to see the other side of the coin and kill some ISAs in my opinion.

They spent three games making rico look like a grade A asshole. Why not work around that?

Im sad that this prob wont happen. I miss Dark Cloud :(

Dark Cloud 2 holds up incredibly still

what happened to the Sly Cooper Movie?

the movie was my hope for another Sly Cooper Game similar to Ratchet

Guess is dead. That Ratchet movie bombed hard

You mean two console teams? Cause they already have far more than two teams overall, between Ni no Kuni 2 and all their 3DS/mobile games.

I can buy the idea they're keeping one foot in console development with Ni no Kuni 2 but I find it hard to believe they have two console teams. Even if the Yo-Kai and Layton series are past their peak, they'll still make far more money from those than they would from a console game.

Shuei Yoshida said in an interview to Dengeki Playstation that Sony is working on many new unannounced titles.
Things I'm looking forward are:
1)New partnership with From Software after Bloodborne
2)Sucker Punch new IP
3)New Guerrilla Cambridge game after Killzone Mercenary in 2013 (still one of the best VIta games).

About E3 they seem to have their hands already full even with zero surprises.
For them it would be enough to showcase RDR2, TLOU2, GOW, Spiderman, FFVIIR,Shenmue 3, Crash Remastered,Detroit, GT Sport, Death Stranding, Destiny 2 and Star Wars Battlefront 2 and their E3 would be already done as one of their best ever.
So it's kinda incredible to think they might have further surprises to announce.

I'd imagine a number of those unannounced projects referenced by Shu are collaborative projects like Drawn to Death and such. There aren't many in the pipeline at the moment and I feel as if we're due to see a couple before long.

E3 prediction: ninja gaiden 4 or doa6 would be revealed at Sony's E3 as ps4 exclusive titles, and I am looking forward to reaction here

Yeah I know I was being facetious

You can easily take off some of those games, there's a good chance they won't be part of Sony's E3 showcase.
-RDR2 because Rockstar is never featured at E3.
-TLoU2 because it's still super early, they probably don't have a vertical slice to show. Heck they probably haven't even nailed down all the gameplay concepts and storyboarding for the game yet.
-Death Stranding because they will only be starting full production on that game starting this year. That game will already be at risk of over-exposure since we won't see release for at bare minimum another 2 years.

also, I want Killzone back. It was the only FPS doing cover based mechanics and doing them flawlessly. The worlds were fascinating, allowing for striking dark visual palettes as well as vibrant colorful ones. And the lore was epic, the one part of those games that was never explored to its full potential. Add in Guerrilla's mastery of tech, impeccable designs, combined with weighted satisfying combat, and you have an IP with amazing potential. An IP that deserves to be developed further.

Yeah I know I was being facetious

Ah, I thought that might've been some blind hope.

I hope to god Guerilla Cambridge isn't working on Killzone. Resistance would be way better, its such a more interesting world.

I'd prefer a new FPS IP but if I had to pick one of those two, I'd go with Killzone. The Resistance world doesn't do anything for me any more.

No chance they show whatever they're working on next this year though.

I think they've been working on something else for awhile. Based on some job postings at least it looks to be the case.

I doubt they had the whole studio working on RIGS

Let's hope Resistance keeps sleeping and they release Killzone instead.

Sony still have a shit ton of announced big exclusive AAA games coming, so I think Sony will focus this E3 on showing them more and only announce 2 or maybe 3 big exclusive games.

New trailer with a big ass set piece or a cool gameplay demo of Days Gone, Spiderman, Uncharted, Death Stranding, FFVIIR, Shenmue 3, Detroit, Dreams, Last of Us Part II, God of War announcing their release dates, in addition to Destiny 2 or next AC announcements with gameplay and a couple of shiny 1st party announcements (Killzone Mercenary sequel on steroids showcasing their Horizon engine + new IP from Sucker Punch) would make a great E3 for them.

I remember some people joked after E3 2015 that Sony would win E3 2016 again by simply reshowing the big announcements (Last Guardian, FF7 Remake, Shenmue III).

And then they showed off so much more, plus the stuff coming out that fall and early 2017. Hell, I wasn't expecting Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Knack 2, Wipeout Omega Collection, Parappa Remaster and The Last of Us Part II at PSX, much less a lot of the other stuff they showed.

So I fully expect plenty of new material this E3 plus release dates for stuff we already know about. I doubt they would do this since they always show off 3rd party stuff, but they seriously have enough first party material now to just show off all of that, especially if they really do have many unannounced first party games.

Killzone Mercenary 2: starring Echo as an assassin whose job it is to de-escalate situations and prevent war breaking out between the Vektans and Helghast. Her first mission: assassinate or bring in the war criminal Rico Velasquez.

Im sad that this prob wont happen. I miss Dark Cloud :(

Dark Cloud 2 holds up incredibly still

I would love a Dark Cloud 3 (or reboot), but that ship has long since sailed. I thought Sony should have built the series up as their equivalent to Zelda, but the main thing I disliked about it was the randomly-generated dungeons. They were just so sparse and charmless, and I would have vastly preferred properly-designed levels, even if it meant they were much briefer.

Nice response :)

Do they have another internal team? Working on something else?

I'm pretty sure the vast majority of SSM will be busy on God of War. They don't even seem to have an internal indie production team any more, although they may have a second pre-production team I guess. However, I expect they're wanting to get the studio back on track after wasting a lot of time and resources on Stig's game.

Would love to see a new Sly Cooper

Yep. Sanzaru's free at the moment, and Ratchet and Clank 2016 proved that there's still a market for these sorts of games, so fingers crossed.

Yeah, I agree. I recently played (some of) Sly 2 HD and Sly 4 with my daughter, and the series is so great. I know it was never as popular as Ratchet, but I'd love it if Sony kept the series alive.

I hope to god Guerilla Cambridge isn't working on Killzone. Resistance would be way better, its such a more interesting world.

I like both, probably with a leaning towards Resistance because the third game was so damn good, but I really think the Resistance series is done for because R3 and Burning Skies sold extremely poorly. Killzone is at least a little more consistent commercially.

I doubt they had the whole studio working on RIGS

I seriously doubt Guerrilla Cambridge are anywhere near big enough to develop two games simultaneously, so unless it's something small (like Killzone: Mercenary Remastered or something), it was probably for a second pre-production team like most of Sony's studios.

If you have RIGS, check the credits against Killzone: Mercenary's and figure out for yourself how similar the teams are (though you might also need to check if there's been any turnover).

Sony killed off the series. Dropping the servers so early was a big evidence that they don't want to do anything with the IP anytime soon.

it would be great though. It's the better series. But I have faith in Cambridge Studios

Shu says there's a big number of unannounced games they're working on, hoping there's at least one classic revival in there.

Socom, Warhawk, something.

Need that Until Dawn sequel too.

Exclusive or not I want Ninja Gaiden IV desperately. I'm a HUUUUUUGEEEE Ninja Gaiden fan and I'm craving more Hayabusa. They also need to redeem themselves after the disgrace that was Ninja Gaiden 3 (had fun with it though). I'm glad Nioh and Nier exist though to fill the gap in my heart from the lack of hack and slash games.

I'm replaying Killzone on my Vita right now and man, that is one good videogame. Really hope Cambridge continues to work on the series. They were hiring for a big shooter franchise no? I would definitely play the shit out of a KZ by those guys, Mercenary is just straight up awesome.

Probably means nothing, but didnt Verendus say a Ninja Game was coming to Ps4?

About your second point don't Balee that

Nope, for reasons you're going to be hearing about later today. :(
