North American Nintendo Switch Lineup

Nintendo doesn't want a software drought, so you would imagine they are holding some cards to their chest, especially considering how little they have put out on the Wii U recently.

They also probably don't want to overcrowd the launch when you've got Zelda.

But of course the main problem is third party, which is a catch 22, as people won't buy a console that doesn't have third party support and publishers won't make games for a low selling console. So I would imagine third parties are going to take a wait and see approach, and I can't see this the switch being a huge mainstream hit like the wii, which means third party won't touch it.

1 game for April, 3 game generically for Spring 2017, one game for Summer 2017, 2 games for Fall 2017 and the rest God knows when. But sure, it's too much to ask to have enough games to play without droughts on your brand new console.

If you really want to play these games like I do then that's a bit underwhelming but it doesn't warrant this over the top reaction it's getting. Again, I'm really not sure what some of you were expecting, after the Wii U happened third party devs would never flock the console before launch. While they could have announced more first party titles, I fully expect them to do that at various points this year.

I see people complaining about the launch, but it just doesn't make sense to me...

Well, I guess if you don't give a shit about Zelda -- or have a Wii-U.

Just thinking about it, I wouldn't want to compete against Zelda at launch, it just doesn't sound like a good idea. Especially given how fucking good it looks, and how hyped everybody is? Yeah, no thanks.

I think it makes more sense to sprinkle the games shortly after Zelda.

I mean, I'm spending $300 and another $60 for Zelda, actually $130 for that collectors edition.. I have no interest in spending any more money when I know I'm going to be glued to this game for a while.

Am I crazy? :<

Im gonna wait for 2018 to buy the switch....

Yea the more I look over this lineup I am surprised there aren't more ports of the best Wii U games. Ports did well for Sony during the lean days of the library, I figured Nintendo would have noticed that.

Why in the world would they announce two competing Mario platformers at the same time?

Because they just released a stripped down, but great 2D version on smartphones, so it would have been nice to be like "Hey, you enjoy that? There's a new, full featured 2D Mario coming to our new system!"

or this may be Nintendo's last console if it isn't successful, so I thought they'd swing for the fences.

How could they not have some ports for launch at the very least. They're cocktail as hell.

Nintendo continues to live in their own little bubble, that will shrink as their core fan base eventually gets sick of them doing the same shit over and over

People here seem to want to buy 5 exclusive/AAA titles at launch, because the Switch is the only system they will have and there is absolutely nothing else to play on existing systems coming that same month.

People just like to complain for the sake of it. The issue will be if the games don't keep coming after launch and there is no third party support.

Launch line up is just fine.

I probably won't be getting this at launch and it has nothing to do with the line up.

Masrried, 2nd kid in March, and just bought a house last summer. Disposable income is barely there, especially for a hobby I find less and less time for. Sure the portable aspect will make it easier but still for me to get this, plus Zelda, and possibly extra controllers, it comes out to around $500 if not more.

Just can't afford it right now. And yes it does suck that even if I could I would be spending 500 or more for specs which are either on par or less than systems already on the market.

I'll see if I can afford it in the fall because I do know I can't miss out on the new Zelda and Mario.

Nintendo is actively blocking (smaller) devs from releasing games that will either release simultaneously on other platforms, or that have been released on other platforms.

1 2 Switch not being a pack in seems like a bad idea, as was said above. Give people that free hit, showing the game is super fun at parties. So that others might be interested in picking up the system.

What Iwata promised. Streamlined development. One platform (not necessarily one device) no droughts. Isn't that difficult to understand.

I seriously expected MK8, Splatoon and Smash to be available at launch, maybe even Pokkén too, but why would I expect much, it's Nintendo after all, they've been disappointing me since the Wii U was revealed and it seems they want to keep that tradition going.

The only game in that launch line-up I'm interested in is Bomberman. Mario Kart, Splatoon, and Arms look cool as well of the later games, but the paid online certainly undermines that feeling.

So much for my hope that pooling their handheld and home console resources would make for a more robust number of titles to choose from. That release calendar is a joke.

There have been some really really bad launch lineups before but this is really something else. Zelda literally the only thing allowing them to launch this machine in March.

Yep, and they already have a great road map.

Hey, here is Zelda, and next? 3D Mario. Literally their biggest IP, back to back.

And they actually had a substantial amount of game-play to show for Mario, it wasn't like you were seeing Zelda on the Wii-U. Hey guys, Zelda soon, isn't it cool how Epona doesn't run into trees?

Mario looks well into development, wouldn't be surprised if it truly does hit in 2017.

WiiU 2 with this launch lineup. Feel like they need to really react to the massively negative sentiment online right now with a more reasonable price, bundles, or something along those lines.

cool. will wait until launch madness settles down, issues are identified and corrected and the thing settles in.

Then I'll buy it once mario zelda and splatoon are all released. Or actually, Zelda + splatoon would be an amazing combo and hopefully get done with Zelda before diving into mario.

Are these guys approaching the indie devs? because if I had Binding of isaac on switch, then I'd be pretty damn happy.

Switch owners are not even getting good old Skyrim until the end of the year. After which I am sure the 'unprecedented' third party support will start to dry up yet again.

This lineup....

They had years to get something competent together, they even had a head start to work on their lineup since the Wii U bombed so hard.

But nope, this lineup looks like business as usual, like the Wii U wasn't a massive failure and that they didn't learn from their mistake. They pretty much had their head in the sand for the last 5 years.

Kart, 3D Mario, Splatoon and Xenoblade sequels along with Zelda sounds like a decent first party slate for the first year. Hardcores will buy at launch anyway.

The real problem is on the horizon. Lots of developers don't even seem to have the tools to make games for the console yet, and the big third parties are only dipping the tiniest of toes in the water.

I also think 3DS will hurt this thing in the near term – it's very affordable now, has most of the same games except for Splatoon, and I don't think its sales potential has been exhausted yet.
