Yakuza 0 has the best scene of 2017

Is Yakuza 0 the one where you build up teams of thugs? Does this mean the chicken is leading thugs into street fights?

Property management/real estate game. I'm glad it's convincing people to pre order but I loved the moment because it came out of nowhere soa bit sad it was spoiled for some.

Seriously I never saw something so random and stupid selling me to a game and I never played any Yakuza game .....

WTF :P

I tried getting into Yakuza with 4 two years ago, but the battle system and how chunky the game felt sometimes threw me off (I remember liking the first protagonists, though, even though I never ended up completing his chapter).

I think I will give the franchise another opportunity with Yakuza 0, everytime I see something from the game I get more interested.
Except battle gameplay. Seems like I just don't get what makes the battles fun

Since 4, the combat has improved with each entry. Yakuza 0 has the best combat just because of how interesting all the styles work. That's the other thing. There are 3 styles for each of the two characters. They all work differently, so there's bound to be one that you like.

It's amazing how one game can have an absolutely serious story, and then an absolutely wacky shit like that.

Can't wait, only 1 week to go!

The combat is much snappier and more refined than in 4, I only played japanese demo but I already could tell the difference in feeling.

This is amazing. Never played a Yakuza game, is this a game a good start point to get into the Yakuza franchise?

Absolutely. Keep in mind that it starts slow but there is plot and character set up as the game eases you through its combat system.

They are all self-contained, but this one is literally the prequel to the very first game, so it's a great place to start for anyone new to the series who would like to see where this Kiryu guy goes from here.

if you don't find picking up a bicycle and smashing it on 6 enemies fun i can't help you

Every Yakuza game is mostly a self-contained story (mostly because in every game you play as the same character/characters), so you could even jump into 4 right now and not be lost, however Yakuza 0 is even better because it's a prequel to the entire franchise.

So go ahead and join the fun!

Are they really self contained?

Goddamnit, neogaf, why did you tell me I couldn't play Yakuza 4 on PS Plus because I needed to play through the first 3?

Yes, they are, with one exception where you only really need to know last 10-20 minutes of a previous entry.

And besides, I think every single game has some sort of retrospection in the menu, Yakuza 3 for example had cutscenes from 1 and 2 with subbed synopsis.

Yakuza 4 has a recap with cutscenes of the first 3 Yakuza games so you can just watch those if you do not want to go through the hassle of obtaining the first 3. You can wait to play Yakuza Kiwami the remake of 1 which comes out this summer.

Who told you THAT?!

Yakuza 4 is the second best entry point to the series (the first being Y0) with it introducing 3 new playable characters and having a story that mostly revolves around them.

Is Kiryu an actual hardnosed badass in this one? Towing the line between hero and villain?

Feels like every other Yakuza game has everyone talking about how awesome and threatening he was in his youth, and while he does kick ass, he comes across as kind of bland. Noble and good-natured almost to a fault(predictable), but he kicks good. It kind of soured my interest in the guy after the first three games. Every problem is solved by using his fists, just got so stale.
