Horizon Zero Dawn | Cinematic Trailer

Whenever someone says robodinos/animals are silly I have to ask them how well aware are they on the current state affairs in robotics in the real world because often times real life robots are based on animals.

Surprise surprise its easier to base robotics on proven real world models instead of reinveting the wheel. These aren't even the only robots based on living creatures. There are six legged hexapod bots that look and move just like spiders and crabs or even soft bodied robots based on squid and jellyfish.
That underwater one is like something ripped out of a sci-fi horror movie.

nah i don't buy that.

big ass dinosaurs went extinct precisely because their forms were impractical for survival. their evolved designs were dumb. no intelligent AI would copy their characteristics, well maybe some aspects but not wholesale so that you could even recognize specific species..

Do you watch SciFi at all? The shit you see here is tame compared to stuff like The Matrix, eXistenZ, Inception, and countless other SciFi movies.

Not true. Dinosaurs were extremely successful and efficient in their design. It's the reason they were able to survive on the planet for over a 170 million years of which they dominated over 135 million years of. They went extinct because of a catastrophic event on Earth 65 million years ago (Cretaceous–Tertiary extinction) most likely an impact with a comet or asteroid. Dinosaurs were not the only creatures to go extinct during that event, about 75% of all species on Earth died. They were superbly adapted to survive on Earth, I would even argue that they were better adapted than we are for surviving that long.

Damn I thought anytime someone used words like impractical or precisely it's because they have actual facts on their side 🤔. Learn something new everyday.

Anyway every time I watch this trailer I get a lil more hype.

What are you talking about? Dinosaurs existed on earth for over 100 million years. They died because of a catastrophe of some sort, not because their forms were inefficient or had some issue with them. Not only that but their ancestors are still alive in a variety of forms so if they were that problematic they wouldn't have lasted. Just say you don't like the designs already and be done with it as this is getting a bit laughable.

climate change etc resulting from the asteroid did not wipe them out instantly (of course), they died because they couldn't adapt to the new environment. the big ones died off first because they were too fucking big and required vast amounts of food (which wasn't as easily available anymore). the small ones survived as birds because they adapted better (smaller evolved designs, requiring less energy)...

i thought this was common knowledge. but yea getting very off-topic, sorry.

Oh stop moving goal posts. What you said was foolish. They would not have survived for over a 100 million years otherwise. A world ending catastrophe is just that, a world ending catastrophe. Most things didn't survive such an event. Adaptations happen over thousands of generations, not overnight. They were more than well adapted for their environment and wouldn't have lasted as long as they did and spread over the entire globe otherwise. If the same happened thing happened today the results would be much the same even with our incredibly technology and civilization.

Also they were adaptable enough to survive to this day in the form of creatures like birds, Komodo Dragons, Alligators and so on. One of the reasons they aren't nearly as huge is the same reason insects aren't gigantic. The atmosphere of modern Earth doesn't support it.

I am having an uncomfortable feelings about the Trailer

I have tried not to spoil too much of this game for myself because my PS4 is ready to go but I took the chance and watched this trailer and was not expecting them to go as far towards, eh never mind its not worth it to vent about it. Enjoy the game guys

Far towards what? D:

Horizon: Zero Dawn actually takes place on
Helghan!

.....I wish. Would be cool though?

I'd be ok with this.
Maybe The Helghast and the ISA went into full blown nuclear war with each other on Vekta. The survivors go underground and both factions build these robots to scavenge the surface for supplies.

Zero Dawn would have to take place a few hundred years after.

As has been pointed out, dinos went extinct (with some notable exceptions) due to one or more environmental disasters which changed the environment too quickly for them to adapt. It's also worth pointing out that the age of the megafauna dinos was done by the time the rock hit, and they were generally becoming smaller.

Dinosaurs are the most successful genus to have lived on earth, and using models based on them to reset an ecology could easily be a narrative reason for that choice.

I don't get the Zelda comparison here...Besides them both being very green, I can clearly see the FPS roots in Horizon. When Aloy aims, it's like the boy is a "gun" from Killzone. And the mechanics are strongly built around her shooting/aiming frequently. The melee stuff might get deeper as you play, but it definitely looks like aiming/shooting will be the bigger focus. The dialog, skill trees, and quest also seem much more akin to a open-world shooter or western RPG, and not the grand adventure game Zelda's are known for with intricate puzzles and hidden hard-to-find secrets in the dungeons. Link himself animates like he's an action character in a game like DMC or something with the combat much more focused on weapon parries, small successful combos, rolling and dodging. The emphasis are much different in the game-to-game beats.

I'm looking forward to both, but man, they look like really different gameplay experience if you just look past the green.

Why are you continuing it then?

It's best to just ignore silly comparisons. Most comparisons between games on different systems are done by people trying to make themselves feel better. Make them feel like they're not missing much.

Man I am hoping this game get the Platinum wireless 3D audio app. Uncharted 3D audio made me a believer. People say you don't need 3D audio for 3D audio. Well Uncharted 3D audio with the Platinums, shits on that theory.

yep

just finished putting down my pre order for the artbook

need more info about the strategy guide

got the ce on reserve

feel like im going all in on this one

am i crazy for this?

Nah, I'm going all in as well. I've been craving this game since that thread about the leaked concept art.

Considering Earth exists in the Killzone universe, it's not out of the realm of possibility that
Horizon also takes place in the Killzone Universe. I expect easter eggs!

I hope this is the game where Guerrillas lore and world building are able to be properly explored. Killzone has such good lore.

Looks great, story didn't engage me tbh (this trailer is structured more like a half-baked movie trailer than a videogame trailer, which'd make sense trying to sell the facial animations tho) but the beast designs and environments seem better.

Will be keeping tabs on this as it looks as tho it might be the next big franchise. Might search for some gameplay...

I missed this October Snapmaw screenshot last year, I'm not sure how the machines differ by region (water level vs mountaintop) but it appears as though GG further increased the material variation with worn carbon fibre on the sides of the jaws and more organic looking white neck. The legs and feet are much clearer to see and eyes all the more menacing lit up red.

I think , Its Red because its corrupted and there will be two version of each machine, with & one without corruption .

Game looks beautiful but the character models in some of those scenes look like they are made out of plastic. That's really only a nitpick but it is noticeable to me.

GG have one of the best art direction in games. You can say a lot of bad things about Killzone but the art direction is not one of them.

And in that note just remembered how Guerrila Cambridge was shut down after the brilliant Killzone Mercenary (which Sony should decide to make a HD remaster for PS4 btw). Now I'm sad.

I might be mistaken, but didnt people match some mountain range / background stuff to a real life location when the very first trailer got published?
