Protesting the Inauguration of Donald Trump

I'm just not going to watch it. Trump loves TV ratings and while I'm sure this will pull big numbers I don't want to be apart of it.

Protest does and accomplishes nothing. However, if it makes you feel good - and it is done in a peaceful, nice way - then by all means go for it.

I'm watching the coverage and am ready for President Trump. Unfortunately I'm not home and have to watch it online.

Please enlighten me, since you seem to know it all, what is it going to accomplish?

How about you read god damn history and come back. What, people just sat down and twiddled their thumbs and hoped for the best and that's how change came about? Protesting hasn't lead to progress? You have the largest library and resource at your fingertips - the internet. It's your choice to be ignorant and I'm not going to try to school your ass on a forum as if I'm obligated to.

Sorry ladies, it does and accomplishes nothing, you'd better stop bothering to protest

Come on folks, wrap it up, it doesn't accomplish anything

But is it gonna lead to Trump not being President?

So the Civil Rights movement was what exactly?

Fair enough. I meant to say that protests such as the ones against Trump and him being president accomplish nothing.

You are flagrantly ignorant.

I see the point you are trying to make mate but you've made it terribly haha

Sometimes protesting is pointless, sometimes it's essential.

If a very large portion of the country simply stopped doing their jobs - they'd have no choice but to have a re-election.

If a few thousand people march about peacefully - you are probably right, nothing will change.

It's important that people protest if they feel the need though to at least show their unhappiness with the regime

This country was founded under protest.

Protest? Why? He is the President at this point...you aren't changing it.

To make him squirm and to intimidate him, we want to make it known that we're not going to stand by and let his bullshit happen.

Protesting without any accompanying action does nothing. Whether that action be voting, riots, dumping tea in a harbor etc it doesn't matter. You need to follow up with your words.

Yeah, I made it horribly and got called out for it lol. Fair enough and I take it fair and square.

It's gonna be the latter, the majority of the country is not gonna stop doing their jobs and it'll only be a few thousand out in every major city or whatever, hence why I'm saying these protests are not gonna accomplish anything.

Well said.

What's up with all the gaffers today that don't know jack shit about American history all of a sudden.

History hasn't played out yet. These events aren't singly about Trump nor the election but about much more. He, his cabinet and the current GOP have the potential to ruin the lives of millions of disenfranchised people. They've made that crystal clear and people will resist. If doesn't work, it doesn't work. But people shouldn't sit on their hands just because people pull, "it will accomplish nothing" out of the ether when the fight has just started for some and is continuing for many.

Oh boy, if you're the kinda person that gets upset at people protesting, or civil disobedience in general, you're sure going to be upset for the next 4
...probably 8 :c
years.

I'm getting a haircut and supporting businesses that are donating their profit this weekend to good organizations

I said goddamn.

I feel very confident these protests will accomplish absolutely nothing and people will go back to their daily lives in no time. However, people should be free to do so, if the protests are done in a peaceful manner.

I love seeing all those trending on twitter. Makes the morning a little better today.

Donald the Unready
#DisruptJ20
Mourning in America

Even saw #BlackOutTrump

I wonder if DisruptJ20 is gonna actually do anything high profile or if they're just gonna get bagged before they get the start. They certainly talk a big game.

Millions, looks like. It's going to be something else.

I asked a woman in the UK (a friend of mine) what she was marching for, literally just to find out why.

She then went mad at me saying she was sick of 'mansplaining' and men like me putting women down.

I was like..... wut?

Then a bunch of other women started saying #notallmen to me. I don't really get it. I have never knowingly oppressed or discriminated against anyone but simply being a man I was demonised. I don't claim to know the reason for all the marches worldwide but everyone seems really angry.

LGBTQ+ peoples, women, religious and ethnic minorities have their lives on the line in this upcoming administration. Not everyone isn't going back to a normal life.

One would almost think that this distinct lack of historical knowledge is how we ended up with this reality TV president.

Educating oneself remains essential.

I wouldn't take it personally, like you said people are angry (and rightfully so). When people are emotional they sometimes say things they don't mean. I'm definitely guilty of doing that a few times, I imagine most people are.

I just left the conversation. It wasn't helped because some other men were actively trying to convince these women not to protest because "there was no point...."

I think they were getting more and more pissed by that dude first.
