You'd be tripping over Koroks every few feet if there were that many... it must refer to something else we haven't seen yet.
If it's an 8km by 6km* map it's only about one per 200m square if my calculator is working

*Edit, oops totally misread from 60km to 80km² but means they would be more spread out than I said.

So is Zelda stuck at Hyrule Castel during the "present time" in the game? A bright light shines when she telepathically communicates to Link about Ganon when Link raises all the towers. It seems like the game is saying that she's that bright shining light near the top of the castle or am I crazy?

No that seems accurate. Correlate that with the bright shining light coming from her hand when she is protecting Link in the latest trailer and you've got a plausible *ahem* link there.

yeah I'm going with her being in flashbacks interacting with Link, Zelda rescuing him and entering a time halting state (she still sounds young in the instructions she gives to Link), and remaining like that until Link comes to fight Ganon proper.

I hope Zelda isn't stuck at Hyrule Castle for the entire game though I am getting that feeling. I hope she escapes/Link saves her midway through the game and she has more to do with the story besides flashbacks and fighting alongside the player to defeat Ganon. Of all the conventions that need shaking up, Zelda being frozen, captured, stuck in a painting, etc should top the list.

^ I don't disagree. But the issue is that in all likelyhood she's frozen/stuck or some other shit.

Which is particularly hilarious when so many people love her design and her scenes in the trailers so much and she'll be once again set aside for so many hours in the game.

I get the feeling that the majority of the story will take place in the flashbacks. Wouldn't be surprised if you never see zelda in the present till the end.

Yea excited for this game beyond belief but Nintendo needs to move past the damsel in distress trope already. Although not going to judge until after playing the game. There's likely a lot more to the story than what they've shown so far.

Have you only played TP and Zelda games before Oot? Because she hasn't been stuck in the castle for probably the majority of the series now

I've played nearly all the Zelda games and in most of them Zelda is sidelined one way or other until the end or so. Of course there are games like WW and ST where she is more involved but the trope of Zelda being helpless/frozen/captured definitely needs further disruption imo and I hope this game does that beyond what we see in flashbacks.

But it's not like she's kidnapped. She's spent 100 years in solo combat with Ganon, basically.

but that act of saving clearly doesnt eliminate the possibility (almost assured) that she did something extremely brave and noble in the name of salvaging the kingdom and any future of its revival, nor does it mean she wont get opportunities to shine in the present

that amiibo of hers has to do something...

and yea, what Rag says, 100 years of tension. kingdom teetering on a razor's edge

LoZ Breath of the Wild |OT| The Struggle is Real

My favorite OT title suggestion is still from the E3 thread. I can't find the post right now though.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT| Rip Van Linkle

I'm really not convinced that the 4 giant guardians are THE dungeons in the game. You'll obviously have to enter them to defeat them, but I think that the insides will be quicker areas that involve more platforming and rune usage. Basically, they'll be more like large shrines then they will fully fledged dungeons.

We get 2 peeks at the inside of a giant guardian (you can tell this because they have the same red particles that are present on the outside of the corrupted guardians), once at 2:26 of the trailer and another time at 3:01. The structures look much more like something I would expect from shrines, especially with the first example.

This is likely the Death Mountain guardian. To me, it just doesn't look big enough to hold a full fledged dungeon. The camel and bird guardians do look big enough to hold dungeons, but instead I think they'll be filled with simple large rooms like my first example above.

There are 4 confirmed runes so far: bombs, cryonis, ice pillar, and magnesis. I think that each of these guardians will have puzzles that mainly focus on one rune, and the 5th mystery rune will be used to defeat a final guardian that you get to near the end of the game (I personally think that the last guardian will be in Hyrule field, which is where the 5th pillar surrounding Ganon's Castle points).

And with such an enormous world, it would be strange to focus so much of the game's content around a few small areas.

I'm interested to know what other people think about the giant guardians, I'm usually really wrong about with these types of theories.

Found a new bit of Hylian text in the trailer

The top halves of the letters were cut off and it's very low contrast, but I'm pretty sure that's what the letters on that green light spell.

I get the feeling that the majority of the story will take place in the flashbacks. Wouldn't be surprised if you never see zelda in the present till the end.

the cut of the trailer even supports this. you never see zelda until the old man tells link he is ready to know what happened 100 years ago. then all the cutscenes with zelda (cut with gameplay too for good measure), bookended with 'open your eyes', implying that all her stuff was in the past.

if you can beat the game in a matter of minutes, then not having to wade through cutscenes would make sense.

1) I think Nintendo needs to play this trailer in movie theaters from now until launch.

2) What are the chances of a Zelda "nostalgia" trailer in the Superbowl like the Pokemon one last year? Something comparing the original Zelda to this one? I think they absolutely need to have at least one Superbowl commercial for the Switch, and having a Zelda focused one would seem to fit with their Switch marketing so far.

Not to mention visual cues. Zelda with sheikah state seen at the same time as link with only master sword. Then the only time we've seen link with the slate is in present with multiple different weapons.

This is probably the worst screen of the game so far, imo. Man, it looks really bland. They really did a number on these interior areas.

But anyway, interesting catch, none the less.

Why? It looks quite interesting to me.

I think this takes place in the fire guardian, since its stretched in length, while the other room in square size could be in the sand guardian, for the same reason.

Rare (hehe) images of the secret 5th guardian titan beast.

In all seriousness, the second the idea of these beasts being dungeons was brought up this is what I thought of. I could see it being similar.

The design of the level looks really cool. It's the lighting that looks awful. The room is full of ambient light, and it's coming from nowhere. If it was that bright in a room like this, there'd be at least some shadows somewhere.

Compare it to the way shrines looked at E3, dark and misty, much much more atmospheric.

Didn't she help out in the final battle in TP too? And, at least story-wise, she helped out in OoT.

She helps a lot, just after getting captured.
She rode a horse shooting light arrows, I think. Then for some reason you get trapped in a magic cage with Ganondorf. It's a very strange battle...

Don't get me started on TP's ending. For starters, they absolutely never explained how Zelda even got captured in the first place. After she heals Midna she just vanishes. You assume she's dead, gone forever.

Then bam, somehow Ganon has her captured above his throne or something. Very weird.

You are right, but the footage directly captured from TVs always have such an milk filter. I think on the TV it will look better!

Huh, I never questioned that in particular, but there's so much about TP that seems like nonsense. Despite that, it's one of my favorite Zelda stories for some reason. I guess it's because Midna.

In BotW at least, I assume she is not "captured" but is forced into staying at Hyrule Castle to contain Ganon's power. But that's just speculation.

At the end of the day it's a trope you meet her, she then gets captured or she puts herself in a state you can't meet with her until end game.

"Zelda watch out for that pebble in the road"

"oh shi-"

*crystallizes herself*

Well did Zelda not give her soul and power to Midna? So i guess Ganondorf took her left over body after he came back. After the puppet and Ganon fight Midna gives it back to Zelda and goes on to fight Ganon and dies. Link and Zelda beat Ganondorf Zant breaks his pact with Ganondorf and dies. Midna gets revived from death by the spirits of light and her curse is gone because Zant died and she is back to her true form.

Sure it's not explained how he got the body tho it's strange but ohwell. Rest is pretty easy to explain tho.

She's no Ellie that's for sure. I still feel like this Zelda will be the most active.

i think midna does a lot to carry the weight of the story. she's one of the very few zelda characters to have a major arc. tetra sort of does, but she always had a heart of gold. midna was a selfish prick until a little under halfway through the game and some major stuff had to go down for her to have a change of heart.

i think the best zelda stories tackle things that go beyond good and evil. what makes the wind waker so memorable to people is its presentation, and that its characters weren't just new versions of past heroes and villains. tetra is zelda, but she doesn't know it and really doesn't care. although the biggest detriment to tww is not her capture but her sudden lack of desire to help link complete his quest, electing to stay in hyrule castle instead. but beyond that you have a ganondorf with understandable motivations, and a link who isn't even supposed to be a chosen one. the hero of winds is just some kid who gets swept up in something bigger than himself when all he wants to do is rescue his sister.

majora's mask is well-regarded for its take on mortality and how everyone faces it in a different way. it's surprisingly touching after a pretty straightforward ocarina of time. link's awakening sort of does the same thing, but to a lesser effect, but it remains the most memorable of the 2d titles from a storytelling perspective.

skyward sword is fine, but it doesn't do anything special. groose, zelda, and ghirahim are standout characters, and the final conflict with demise is interesting, and that's basically it. i'm hoping there's more to breath of the wild than some interesting characters and voice acting.

The problem isn't how he got her body, it's that her body is gone. It literally vanishes as she gives Midna her power. That's the type of thing you'd expect if a character is dying completely to save someone else.

Anyway, this thread isn't about TP. BotW seems to have a very big focus on the journey of Link and Zelda in the past, which is better than we typically get in these games. It would be nice if she wasn't sidelined for the majority of the present, but that sure seems like it will be the case.

If you guys remember from the Game Awards gameplay, Bill stopped playing right before he stepped near a shrine to the Goddess Hylia, as he didn't want to spoil us. There is also a similar shrine at the Temple of Time on the Great Plateau.

I think there might be a connection between these Hylia shrines (which are separate from the Shiekah shrine mini-dungeons) and the main dungeons of the game. I'm thinking that the instrument, be the Ocarina of Time or a Shiekah Rune or whatnot, might be the key to activating these true environmental dungeons, and that they might be associated with time travel.

We've counted five pillars surrounding Hyrule Castle, each of which might be connected to a true main dungeon. The four beasts might be mini-dungeons or separate dungeons that in reality, might just be really creative boss battles that you can enter and deactivate.
