Horizon Zero Dawn | Cinematic Trailer

This doesn't sound quite like the procedural generation I was thinking of. This sounds more like inserting items and things into the world around Aloy and not about generating content in the form of something like No Man's Sky. In fact it sounds like something more on the developers side of things to help streamline game creation and content editing unless I'm misunderstanding it. Still cool but its not like they're generating random robo creatures for you to fight or anything like that or anything that translates into stuff directly affecting the player on the fly.

I forgot about this though this isn't really doing anything all that crazy in terms of procedural generation. Its basically generating a basic quest line probably out of some templates to give you a piece of crafting material.

No, it is not. But it's still a great feature.

That I agree on. While I don't mind the grind, there is sometimes I just want one fucking item so I can get my armor or finish a quest or something along those lines and don't want to rely on rare drops.

Hmm strange you present your pe conceived notions as fact. The impressions we have so far from many media outlets at E3 and PSX is that the gameplay is ace and controls are very tight for an open world game.

Also for the soundtrack I like the stuff I've heard so far. The tribal vibes it echoes fit pretty well and the main theme is really cool. But I get that in particular is subjective.

Writing is a toss up, we have to wait until release to judge that. They've hired outside help from the likes of CD Projekt so that's encouraging.
Fair enough if you choose to be very pessimistic though.

Doesn't seem to me I presented anything as fact, that certainly wasn't my intention. Don't take this as condescendence, but maybe you misread could as would?

Anyway, to be clear: the only preconceived notion I have about a game made by Guerrilla is that technically it will be excellent. As for the rest, I just don't like to take anything for granted. This is true for any game, by any developer, no matter their previous works. To make another example, I don't already believe that Cyberpunk will have great writing just because TW 3 did. It's more complicated than that, I think.

Well at least you got that out of the way
someone's totally going to use line huh?

I was actually thinking of using the part up to the second comma. Not that I believe in a downgrade, as it should be clear from my previous posts, but asking the devs such questions is pointless, you won't get any other answer. Even CDPR, which usually are "the good guys", basically denied TW 3's downgrade.

What is the history of downgrades with Sony first party studios this gen? I don't think looking at third party devs on that matter is relevant.

Shadow Fall lived up to it's reveal, I believe.

UC4 is the best looking game this gen.

Infamous also revealed and launched looking incredible.

So there's three in the positive camp.

The question was:
"Has Horizon Zero Dawn been downgraded since E3?"

First of of all, downgraded in what regard? The question could have been a little clearer.
Secondly, no developer ever would answer a question like that truthfully with something like:
Why, yes, of course! So nice of you to notice! :)

So that Tweet and answer aren't really worth anything.
That being said, let's wait a little more, we should have previews and reviews including gameplay of the retail version in the coming days. Then we can judge.

The developer could choose not to answer. Now, if there are downgrades, even little ones, people make him accountable with his tweet.

Didn't inFamous get a slight upgrade and uncharted as well? And yes mathijs could choose to remain silent on the matter but he opted not to.

Giving "alternative facts" isn't unheard of at all in the gaming industry. ;)
Also, that question was so vague...that could have meant anything. So the answer could mean anything too. Maybe he didn't even understand what that question was relating to.

As I said before, apart from the blurry (unloaded?) textures in that very compressed video I think I see a noticable downgrade in vegetation density and especially LOD.

There is a very clear LOD quality reduction noticable with these trees.

The lighting also looks downgraded but that could just appear this way because the video compression also messed up the contrast. We will have to wait and see. We shouldn't jump the gun yet.

If you were referring to what I wrote, first, second or third party, it doesn't matter; every developer will hardly (ie: never) admit that their game will be "worse" than what was promised.

Well, that can be investigated after release and I don't think Sony first party devs are notorious for that sort of thing.

And this is exactly the modus operandi I support. Speaking of a downgrade before having a game, as sometimes happens even years before release ("this demo was downgraded with respect to last E3's!"), is, quite simply, ridiculous.

It's pretty much impossible to tell and confirm given that the highlighted tree is different and the massive difference in video quality.

People were pushing a downgrade argument on U4 comparing the E3 teaser with the PSX 2015 demo or some other.

I'd say it took too long for people to start the downgrade argument on Horzion, I mean we are a month away from release.

Source? I've seen people say this quite a few times already. I just thought they hired quest designers from CDPR, not writers.

Or maybe they just changed the terrain in the many months since that demo? Come on.

You don't need to "come on" me. ;) I am just stating what I see on these images. I'm not the one who started the downgrade crying and I am also not even claiming there was definitely one.
Repeating myself here: Lets wait for HQ footage and see.

You "think"? Look if you're not sure then... Why are people arguing?

Man it's like when I turn ambient occlusion from 5-4... Yea if you look really hard you may notice... But if someone turned it off in the middle of playing and you're engrossed in the game you better bet your ass your not gonna notice

The reason there's a difference is because the camera is pointing in a different direction in both pictures. It's not a cutscene, it's dialogue and it's based on where the NPC is stood.
