lacking time to make a proper hype thread

I get what they mean with the hotline miami comparison, but most people didnt go into hotline miami for the gameplay, or at least thats not what people came out of the game thinking about.

None that I know of at least. It was the vibe, the setting, the violence, the synth music, the psychadelic nature of the whole thing.

Some of my great friends are behind this game. The whole team are a bunch of ex-Halfbrick dudes from Brisbane, who worked on games like Raskulls, Colossatron and Radical Rappelling.

It's a ton of fun, recommended!

Just a warning: the publisher (Tinybuild) is pretty crap with console ports. They published Cluster Truck on PS4 and it didn't have the option to Invert Y. When asked about it they complained that it was too much effort to patch it in right away. Now, three months later there's apparently a patch that includes Invert Y and the Halloween content, but it's not available to all users (presumably because they flagged it as US PSN only or something) and they can't be arsed to follow up with Sony.

So, if the game launches with no issues on consoles you should be fine, but otherwise it's not a priority for them.

Because it looks reeaally good. And well, while I understand the HM comparisons (obviously), it looks much better visually and seems to have a great personality.

Aussie Aussie Aussie, oi oi oi.

Looks pretty decent, shame we're under a gaming avalanche right now as I got zero time left for other games in Q1, but I'll keep an eye on it just to support those guys. Sone of them went to Uni with me in Brissy.

That's certainly true for me. I watched the trailers for this game and they left me ice cold. I enjoyed the gameplay for Hotline Miami, but the violence, music, and madness were what hooked me.

I get very suspicious whenever a game is trying too hard to be compared to an existing successful game.

Why don't you try it out first? It's very different, you can't even use a gun and it has a very cool teleportation mechanic. I liked Hotline Miami but I don't even think of it when I'm playing this game.

What are you talkin about man? The aesthetic was amazing, but the gameplay was just as important. Racking up huge combos and clearing out a tough level in no time gets the heart racing like no other.

Not sure about that; I still routinely boot Hotline Miami up just for the hard-hitting gameplay.

Played a demo of this a while back, it was quite fun and more puzzle-like than HM ever was, while still being relentlessly fast and intense

Hotline Miami is nothing without that gameplay. What gave you the impression that people like HM for stuff other than the gameplay?

You aren't wrong. Only the NOA marketing is trying to pretend it is a console.

Mr. Shifty looked good from the reveal on Switch. Not that many games like it either.

you do realize that when we use the term "handheld" it's just short for "handheld console".

As someone who plays docked and tabletop exclusively, the term "console" is more appropriate than "handheld".

"portable home console" is pretty much what this thing is, whether you want to believe it or not.

Finally tried the open beta.

Yeah, Mr Shifty is definitely one to watch. Even playing it on a slow laptop with a mousepad + cursor keys this is a ton of fun. Yes, there are some Hotline Miami similarities but in a good way. Crisp gameplay and fun physics.

If they keep a variety of enemies, weapons and stages, this will be excellent.

*raises hand* I think Hotline Miami (the first one, NOT THE SECOND ONE) is an absolutely exceptional game from a gameplay perspective. The other elements are icing on the cake that propel it to being one of my all time faves, but sign me up to be someone you know of that thinks and whatnot about Hotline Miami's gameplay! :)

EDIT: Beaten like a drum by a bunch of people. Oh well, sign me up also.
