Of all the games at EVO last year, Pokken was easily the most annoying and least fun game to watch in person. I mean annoying because of the constant high pitched screaming the characters do, and "least fun" because the crowd was so bored with it during the finals people were paying more attention to the Street Fighter V matches going on on the left screen (It helped that PR Rog ended up in a double KO match with Bonchan).

Personally, I think KI had a good run, and it probably needs a new entry to revive enthusiasm to the point where it being included in Evo as standard makes sense.
I don't think KI is ever going to be that big of a game unless it someone stops being exclusive to Xbox and the Windows store. No number of updates or new versions will change that.
It's a shame, because if it was on PS4 and Steam I could see it having competitive numbers way closer to the NRS games and giving them a run for their money.

If KI launched as the full game that it is now and wasn't exclusive to XB1 it would easily surpass MK I think. Absolutely amazing game that was damaged by the launch model of a F2P "seasons" option because MS was hesitant to fully fund the game.
I don't ever expect it to get to the point where it's just a given that KI is at Evo at any given year, regardless of if the game was released on every major platform. Hell, Tekken hasn't even managed that.
The think about the NRS games, is that they would also likely fall out of the rotation after a handful of years also if new games weren't being introduced to take over. There are very few Smash and Street Fighter situations, where the game can survive a decade with a single iteration.

Yep. Because the truth is, no one buys an Xbox just to play fighting games, that's why you would buy a sony console. You would have near guaranteed access to every fighter that comes out just for owning sony's console. KI could have gotten the shot in the arm it needed witht he PC release, but it's walled off in the Windows 10 store, a storefront that almost no one uses or wants to use in comparison to Steam, Orgin, GoG, even probably U-Play.

KI is a massive game. 6 million+ unique players per month last year. It's at least as big as MK. But the community stays at home. The netcode is great so I don't blame them.

It's absolutely not as big as MK. The numbers MK would put up if it didn't need to be purchased to be played would be ridiculous. MK does higher numbers as a full-priced retail package only.

Seriously, Pokken was a draaaaaag to watch in person.
On another note, I really hope the EVO staff does better with the stages/seating for the first two days. It was so cramped in that little seating area for 3 "stages". Didn't help that they plopped that massive command center right in the middle of the room which took away from more seats.

No KI means no EVO for me. Best fighting game this generation, but being tied to Xbox hurts it in Japan.
KI has sold well and been very successful, has a dedicated scene, updated often, and has had hype tournaments. No love from EVO, whatever.
