He means 'wore the crown'.

I think he meant crown which I think jughead usually wears in the comics

Edit:beaten

Oh wow I really should have figured that out. Thank you both!

I suddenly remembered I had made a guess on that Riverdale thing and decided to check this thread.

Huh. Honestly, I thought I was low-balling that one just for that edgy-factor. It's a predictable score for the CW though, when other shows don't even reach 1.0 on the premiere.

I imagine most of its viewers aren't watching through TV either though. I mean, we know that much based on My Ex-Girlfriend's ratings versus people who've seen it. I guess Netflix is a much better source of viewer data now than Nielsen is, at least for young ages up to 35. So that first column is essentially worthless in terms of how many millennials actually watched something.
Surely some young shlock-fans are watching Emerald City.

A true champion.

Wasn't there some announcement made semi-recently about Nielsen either being replaced with a system that could take into account stream watchers or Nielsen improving its ability to take into account watchers across all media?

Well, it's not worthless (not for that reason anyway). Advertisers buying ad space on the CW don't really care how a show does on Netflix. Also of course CW shows aren't available on that platform until a week after the season ends (in the US anyway).

Eh, the cinematography is decidedly more Twin Peaks than The Killing. And it's not especially Twink Peaks-y.
The interplay between the dark and the neon colours was great. But definitely not Nordic Noir. I did not find the colour scheme "desaturated" and it just isn't Nordic Noir, nor is anything else really about the show really.

Take this totally random shot of Riverdale (yes the gif is quite badly compressed but it gets the point across):

It's pretty damn vibrant in its use of colour.

We're gonna need some bigger gifs of this. *sweats profusely*

Thinking about it, this season seems really different. We have had zero cancellations so far, I think?

Looking on the TV renewal scorecoard page on TVLine, you're right. The last things to be cancelled were things airing during the summer. There are things that are pretty dead, but haven't been announced to be. It's been a unique year for that!

Makes me think someone cancelled something that became a huge Netflix hit and then got stuck without being able to continue it.

can one even enjoy Riverdale if they never touched a Archie comic?

I mean, I know there are some ladies called Betty and Veronica... and thats about it :/

Sure. I mean they turned one of the teachers into a hot lady and they changed the race of several characters, so it's not like it's really married to the property.

All I knew about Archie is football, Jughead likes cheeseburgers and has a crown, Betty and Veronica are awesome and love triangle a lot, and Mr Weatherbee is a jerk. Basically characters and traits. And I greatly enjoyed it!

All I know is that Betty seems like a real Joey and Veronica seems like Jen. If they hadn't rolled Dawson and Pacey into one character, it would be a total Dawson's Creek rip-off. I mean, the totally hot 'best friend' that has feelings for the main character and then smoking newcomer from the big city that the main immediately falls for.

If anyone is worried about what Riverdale's surprisingly soft debut numbers mean for its future apparently the show is already (largely) profitable owing to that fact Netflix bought the series for most international territories.

If it proves a hit, with Netflix's international members at least, then there's an excellent chance that the show stays on the air. It makes enough sense for WB to keep it going with an improved licence fee deal with the CW.

Very, very good.

Yeah. I will lose quite a bit of impact when you know it's coming though, since if you start thinking about a twist you'll probably land on the right one.

The thing is, the show is still excellent on its own and works regardless of whether you're spoiled or expecting anything. The twist might lose impact but the show doesn't.

I'm watching it knowing the spoiler and if anything it's adding a new layer to the show for me!

I agree. I thought the show was pretty funny and charming even when I didn't expect a twist.

Obviously a personal opinion, but the winter premiere and this week's episodes of Supergirl were far from their best. A little disappointing after such a long break.

Yeah, that ties its second-lowest rating ever. Not great.

I think it will be fine, as long as it doesn’t continue to drop. A .7, or even .6, is a high enough rating to get it renewed on CW.

What I’m concerned about is Timeless. I think it’s dead in the water.
