Colin Was Right: The Gaming Industry vs Donald Trump

No, because Nazi racial ideology has no basis in fact and it requires a damaged psyche to support suicidal warmongering govt policies.

The reverse might be true if they are open to facts and havent had their empathy crushed under the boot of an abusive, tyrannical father or other such trauma.
Assuming all Nazis are in some way mentally damaged is making excuses for their behaviour.

If Nazis were so open to facts then they wouldn't be Nazis. Everything that you consider to be unfallteringly true is exactly how Nazis and white supremacists feel about their views. If you're so unwavering in yours, why would they be so ready to radically change their world views?

For me, whether or not Trump voters are actively and aggressively racist is beside the point. I mean, fuck, most of the white folks on this board are racist in that they do not work to remedy racial inequalities and dismantle power structures that reinforce racial hierarchy.

What's important—and what Colin always misses—is that these voters decided that racism is not disqualifying. And, moreover, that expressions of authoritarian intent are not disqualifying, that bragging about sexual assault is not disqualifying, that total ignorance of policy is not disqualifying, that the dehumanization of marginalized and vulnerable people is not disqualifying.

He never even tries to engage with that idea. It's always the trite (and frankly, stupid) line, "Well, I know a lot of good people that voted for Trump." Great, maybe you think so, but how are you grappling with the consequences? A number of them have legitimate grievances, as do all poor people in America. But what are you, a privileged person with a prestigious education and a large audience, doing to combat the things that are happening in America? What are you doing to combat the policies that will be an inevitable byproduct of this electoral expression of the malicious, the misguided, and the justifiably angry?

Nothing, mostly. Wringing your hands about a few violent acts at a protest, mostly. Crying about "free speech," mostly. Criticizing both sides equally, head buried deep in the sand, mostly. Do something about it, Colin. Donate money. Volunteer. Show that you have an ounce of compassion for everyone, not just white factory workers in Indiana who are out of a job. We get it. You think that the games media cares too much about marginalized people. That doesn't mean that you can't care too.

Fuck this guy

I love how both the arms are white. Subtle, probably unintentional, but speaks volumes

The description of the video and what he actually says explicitly is political, I have no idea how you can come up with such an argument to dismiss my criticism of his entirely economic analysis of the games industry.

This is the very definition of a political mouthpiece

"This week, Colin explores how President Trump's policies could adversely affect the industry, and discusses the anger towards Trump emanating through every corner of gaming."

Seems pretty on point to me..

It's like he has to shout "Fuck all you Nazi Republicans!" to appease GAF to be safe from being called a bigoted Nazi...

Maybe he should have a slow motion video of various people and cultures slowly looking sad into the camera while Sarah Mclachlan's "In the Arms of the Angel" played in the background with soft white bloom colors?

Oh shit.. I said angel and white.. "WAIT- no Don't kill me- Don't Ki--- .. "

Noooo Neil, don't fall for Colin's white moderate 'why can't we come together with the nazis' bullshit

:'(
Oh well.

It's nice to be said by a bunch of rich white guys how should I and the rest of minorities should just talk to the neo nazis that voted for a Russian puppet.

Neil just likes his show. I doubt he agrees everything Colin says.
lol, a "I am a single issue voter" kind of mess.

We lost the election. We are responsible for letting him, congress and 2/3rds (?) of state legislation into republican power.
No. This sentiment that got dump elected didn't start with the left, it started with the right. For years the republicans have been courting racist, sexist, bigoted voters, and then we were all supposed to be surprised when a racist sexist bigot got the nom. Maybe if the republicans hadn't actively pandered to these people and actually told them that their mindset was wrong and worked to educate them we wouldn't have dump.

Come to the GE, and the voters had literally all the information they needed available to them. They had every reputable news source in the country telling them the facts (not the alternative ones). They had the debates, wherein they could've seen Hillary spouting policy and dump spouting abuse and empty promises of long lost jobs returning. They had the entire dump campaign's history of attacking, attacking, attacking literally everyone and anything that criticised them.

Yet they still voted for him. That's not the left's fault, it's the voters fault. Unless you are suggesting that the left start lying about literally everything to America just to gain votes, too.

I'm a big fan of ND but that tweet from Neil made me lose a lot of respect for them.

Edit: I should have said just Neil. These are his opinions and his alone.

Ah the irony! Ayn Rand fanboy wants people to focus on Unity rather than individual beliefs/rights.
Can't take someone seriously when he reveres a lady who said “Racism didn’t exist in this country until the liberals brought it up,".

I reached across the aisle to people in November by voting for Hillary Clinton, and what I got in response to that was legal immigrants and dual citizens being deported on the basis of their country, the erasure of Jewish people from the Holocaust Day speech, the erasure of white supremacy from the government's terrorism plan, the government wanting to sic federal agents on my people in poor economic straits, and unabashed Nazis showing up at an art exhibit centered on togetherness specifically to disrupt it.

I'm tired of getting punched in the face for trying to save the country from itself. So how about talk to conservatives about some of that good ol' empathy for once? :)

Some people in here really hate Colin. I did not realize how much hatred was legitimately out there toward the guy.
Turns out when you're intellectually dishonest and peddle neo-Randian bullshit while selling yourself as an Very Smart Person, you're going to get some hate.

This dude lives in a bubble

It's also funny how apparently he's allowed to tell certain people, companies or whatever "fuck you" but once a dev pulls that card it's a no-no. I also love how he even manages to make himself look like a victim at the end of the video, lmao

Him publically telling people on Facebook that he left the Republican Party doesn't mean shit since his heart and mind is still there

Some of the dev quotes were interesting, but thinking about it.. yeah, no shit Sherlock, of course all that stuff happening right now is terrible and affecting the videogames industry as well

Noooo Neil, don't fall for Colin's white moderate 'why can't we come together with the nazis' bullshit

Great video but damn he really needs to change the name of this. I am a Kinda Funny fan and get the Colin is Right joke but the name of the show doesn't portray what it's actually about.

The title is too smug considering this is information that needs to get out there. I'd hate if this turns off would-be watchers.

Neil just likes his show. I doubt he agrees everything Colin says.
I don't know man, I'm beyond giving the benefit of the doubt about this shit. If Neil did have a problem with some of the stuff Collin had to say, he should have said. Without that the only conclusion that we can draw is that his praise of this video is equal to agreeing with the views within it. This is too sensitive a subject for people, especially people with platforms like Neil, to be vague about

Either you're intentionally missing the point or you just get off on acting childish.

Everyone in the entire world told you how terrible this man was, everyone in the world told you how selfish and egomaniacal this man was. Everyone could see how he was blatantly lying and deceiving his followers.

Hell, HE told them all that too. It was plain to see, but if you walk the party line and can't even disagree with the candidate you voted for, that's an issue.

Trump supporters were told for 8 years that the "MUSLIM FASCIST" was the worst, so they think everyone telling them how bad Trump is were playing the same game. Difference is, our concerns were and are all founded.

While people mouth off their usual grievances with Colin, I'm just happy that there's actual reporting going on in a video game youtube video. It feels like a first almost.

Wait, where in the video did he say people should enter a dialogue with nazis? Did I actually miss that?

Fucking YIKES

Can't say I'm surprised though. Troy Baker is a bit like this, too. That bubble is in full effect sadly.

Ellie gonna try to reach out for mutual understanding with Clickers in TLOU2 confirmed

Oooo somebody shop Trump hair on a bloater

Matt Conn is a real one

It's great to see someone put their livelihood on the line to make a stand. His words are exactly what I hoped to hear, and I wish more artists and entrepreneurs would put their money where their heart is

no, but it would be helpful to his "i'm a moderate, i'm in the middle" shtick if he was equally vocal about opposing trump as he is about telling people to "grow up" "stop being so dramatic" (on election day) "stop being babies and ruining academia" (about recent protests).
But on that angle it's just "well, i didn't vote for him".

And i don't agree with the sentiments about Druckmann here. He probably knows Colin better than us, so he possibly knows where he's coming from and that he maybe really believes in that naive 'we should be respectful and just reach out' rhetoric.

Go have some conversations with the 99% of Trump voters who aren't racists?

Not all Trump supporters are racist, sexist, xenophobes. Perhaps not even most.

All Trump voters however, agreed that being a racist, sexist, xenophobe was not a deal breaker in securing their vote.

At best, all Trump supporters are enablers.

Assuming all Nazis are in some way mentally damaged is making excuses for their behaviour.

how so? Someone gets an iron rod shoved through their frontal lobe and commits crimes, the damage doesn't excuse the crimes but it does explain them.

If Nazis were so open to facts then they wouldn't be Nazis. Everything that you consider to be unfallteringly true is exactly how Nazis and white supremacists feel about their views. If you're so unwavering in yours, why would they be so ready to radically change their world views?

I think/hope it is easier to change minds using facts and appealing to empathy than with lies and brutality.

Either you're intentionally missing the point or you just get off on acting childish.

Maybe I am mising the point? All I see is a reporter doing a piece on how policies may effect the game's industry.

All I see is a bunch of gaffers with pitchforks calling for blood because 'He just did't go deep enough into it'.

Is there something I'm missing? I DID make some coffee while the video played, but Kcups are pretty fast and easy..

add to that "If I was forced to, I would have voted for Trump over Hillary."

Page1-page9. DAMN. Talk about a shift.

There's a easy explanation for that. The video is 20 minutes and the early posts are reactions to the first part of his video.

The first six or so posts, including mine, alluded to the fact that even though the video is insightful, the thread would quickly devolve into a repeat of happens in every Colin Moriarty related thread, and here we are.

Alt-facts? Pretty sure that was just you. Most of those posts were made in much less time than it took to watch the entire video

Why aren't you trying to reach across and discuss or try to at least refute points if you disagree?
