I don't actually watch PewDiePie, but I saw the video in question and it seemed to me that he was trying to make fun of Keemstar, although it seemed that he genuinely didn't expect them to actually make it.

I mean, I think the joke was in bad taste, but I really don't think he is antisemetic or anything. I imagine its more that he's trying to be more edgy with his humor then actually feeling that way. I mean, you can argue that he's setting a bad example for children, but you could state the same thing for the millions of other youtubers. I feel that the "think of the children" arguement is a pretty poor argument against him.

Also, just saying that calling people Nazi's for not agreeing with you doesn't help your arguement.

Have you watched the video? He didn't think any of them were gonna make the videos he requested. Its the reason why he was shocked when he saw them actually doing it

When you're a multimillionaire I guess you just can't understand what some people do for just a little bit of money they probably desperately need. Sad.

Too bad. I actually like some of his playthrough of genuinely good games. Don't care for the rest of his stuff though, so I never ran into this side of him.

That being said though, people labeling him as "white supremacist"... I'm hardly surprised seeing it after reading the Colin Moriarty and Jonathan Blow threads, and seeing the same labels thrown at those people over far less, but seriously guys, you're devaluing the word. The guy got his comuppance for what is nothing but ignorantly making dumb-ass jokes, no need to slander him any further out of some need to make sure he gets got.

There is no such thing as devaluing a word. There are many forms of racists ( white supremacists), not just the full blown crazy ones.

"Two wrongs make a right, Lisa."

Don't worry mate, they're just joking.

It's baffling how easy it is for some to excuse "death to all jews" as just a joke and shrug it off. Maybe I will do my own reaction video and take his video down the block to the local Jewish Center and record reactions. How do you think these will go? "Oh grandma, don't cry, it was just a joke. Can't you take a joke?"

Jokes can be offensive to some. Most jokes probably offend someone out there. I bet when someone is being racist to their own race, it offends a lot of people. It gets a pass though, not because it's not offensive, but because they're being offensive to their own race.

Also, you don't shove the jokes into the faces of unwilling people that you think you'd offend, hoping to make them cry though, that's way worse.

Tweet from a Jewish man, Ethan Klein, aka H3H3, aka a friend of PewDiePie:

"I'm saddened by today's news that @pewdiepie did 9/11 :("

He clearly isn't offended. Are you going to be, on his behalf?

I guess people defending shit-tards making anti-semetic jokes that kids are watching and looking up to and idolizing in the midst of a very real neo-nazi movement is on my pet peeve list. Obviously its not as important to others as the welfare of said shit-tard's image and youtube channel.

I feel it's less about defending him and more about pointing out how quick people are to pour more gasoline on a burning man by making tenuous at best associations based on other videos he's made and using these as just cause for not pissing on him when he's on fire.

They didn't understand what jew meant. They said it themselves and apologized. He got rejected by a bunch of other people and he was expecting this to be the same. His poor judgement was still airing it

Funny! People calling everyone literal Nazis and in turn downplaying actual terrible people is also on my pet peeves. But I guess it doesn't matter as long as you can call people a lot of names

yes, its so tiring that everyone that does not agree with a SJW are neonazi-fascist-supporter-alt-right-hitler etc.

I hope this sets a precedent in which content makers who stoop to this low, wildly unfunny level have to suffer the consequences--real consequences, not just a slap on the wrist or a little bit of time "blacklisted." While PewDiePie still has a huge fanbase, Disney and Google/YouTube pulling the plug isn't nothing.

You guys are really jumping through a lot of hoops to defend PewDiePie, but you want to know what a really easy thing is? Not making anti-semitic jokes.

It's sad that it's even come to this.

So where should it end? Should he be driven to ruin? Should he be labelled a white supremacist with very flimsy evidence? Or should he just apologize profusely and mean it, and eat whatever punishment comes his way.

I guess we could start with at least one apology video that is sincere and not attacking the media and everyone for "picking on him" and that they just couldn't take a joke that had to also be taken down. Maybe sincerely denouncing his actions and denouncing the alt-right shitlords who are cheering this on would also help and try to influence the kids and teens that have been normalized to this shit. That would be a good start before people trying to clear him of any wrongdoing and defend this shit.

Times are different now, I remember back in the day Nazi is used often in all types of comedy. But it is not funny anymore since neo-nazi is a real threat once again.
Oh yeah i'm in no way defending what he did, he went too far without a doubt. But it's mind boggling how many people are essentially reading a fairly sensationalist article (9th time he's done this etc) and rolling with that, hes a white supremacist, all his fans are, he deserves to get beat up in the street haha.

I'm not saying you have to watch his videos to get a real opinion on him, although all the '9 times' people should :p it just seems like a large majority of people made a knee jerk reaction to a title and are painting this in such a black and white manner. Some people make very valid points, and i agree with them, but I think others are masking their envy behind the thread title and are on a crusade to bash him as much as they can so they feel better about themselves. But who knows maybe I'm talking a bunch of shit haha

Don't worry mate, they're just joking.
With that "time to die pie" I didn't meant that I want him to die... with that I wanted to imply with that joke is that maybe it could be the time to kill/delete the pewdiepie role.

I've been hammered before by moderation so I want to make it clear.

He probably chose India because anti-semitism is rampant in the orient and is an easy target to make "jokes" about it.

Fun fact: Judaism was not only one of the earliest religions to arrive to India, but they have also historically lived in India without any instances of antiseminism from the local dominant populations (Hindus). I do however, enjoy your attempts to paint an entire region as anti-Semitic for the purpose of your shitty arguement.

No offense, but you are really fucking reaching in your attempts to make PewDiePie look like a white supremacist.

Alt right people are actually cheering this on? seriously? they don't get he's making a terribly shitty joke aimed at a racist youtuber? What's the positive here for them, I'm dumbfounded.

Some are honestly, but what else can you expect from the alt-right aside from failing to understand sarcarsm and being shitheads?

His entire career was a serious lapse in judgment lol, this shit is tame compared to some of his other videos.

I think the real problematic news here is how YouTube and the internet gives white men a free pass for targeting vulnerable groups up until their brand is damaged. When they lose profitability it's time to jump ship.

Welp, you don't make these kind of jokes.

I mean...you technically CAN, but you're looking to have your ass bit.

He clearly isn't offended. Are you going to be, on his behalf?

1) I didn't know PewDiePie was Jewish poking fun at his own horrific history

2) "Death to all jews", you know fucking hilarious joke, put in the middle of a video millions are clicking on to watch that didn't know was going to be there. Including kids and teens.

3) Well thats a wrap, PewDiePie's Jewish friend wasn't offended so nothing to see here.

I never claimed India was anti-semitic, but people from there look ethnically similar to people who are very, very anti-semitic in the east. And I never called PewDiePie a white supremacist, I called him a capitalist exploiter.

Is it as illuminating as living in India after 1978?

More so.

That's about the fucking middle east, not necessarily about freaking India or China. " Orientalism" seems to be more about Arab culture and the influences of western imperialists then fucking India.

The Middle East was Edward Said's specialty and that's why his research focused primarily there, but many of its concepts apply to western views of the east in general.

1) Just an example to show it's not about being offensive or not. It's about who's being offensive to who.

2) Context, he's making fun of Keemstar. He's clearly, at least, acting like he's appalled by seeing it.

3) Just an example again. You think this is offensive, so "That's a wrap, he should be vilified"

The only mistake PewDiePie made was that he made a joke that only people hardcore into youtube personalities would get, i.e. his core audience. When sponsors and gaf and jelly media look at they either don't get it or willfully ignore the context to promote whatever agenda that they have. Well sponsors don't have an agenda other than to find the mythical unicorn that is the personality as inoffensive as Jay Leno but that people actually like.

Pretty scary that they can go after humour, strip it of all context and nuance and irony, and try and paint you as whatever it is they want to paint you as. But I guess that's the world we live in now. Nuance is dead.

You even have JK Rowling, a writer and artist, retweeting some trashy Independent article that tries to smear PewdiePie as a fascist for making these jokes. It's like everyone is stuck in their cages on either side of the political divide getting progressively crazier. People only see what they're programmed to see. Sad.

I saw the video and while it's true he should have chosen another offensive sentence to test how far they would go, he's clearly not an antisemite.

There should be zero tolerance towards people truly holding those beliefs... but a joke in bad taste shouldn't be the end of your career/endorsements/etc. He did explain himself and that should be the end of it (I'm sure he won't make the same mistake twice). Were he to persist in making the same mistake, I'd then understand the need for potential sanctions or being dropped by sponsors.

I'm all for politically incorrect humor (as long as it's actually clever/funny), but one should accept the eventual consequences, as long as they're reasonable.
