Disney cuts ties with PewDiePie after he posts antisemetic videos

Yep, he's such an antisemite that he regularly talks to and collabs with Ethan and Hilla Klein, two Jewish people, one being from Israel. /Sarcasm What he said was definitely stupid, but he absolutely is not an anti-semite.

"I can't be racist, I have black friends!"

Come on man.

All of you saying that he is a nazi or anti-semit are seriously retarded.

I mean, I think people are letting his body of work speak for him, which as an entertainer, is something you need to live with. "Doing it for the lulz" doesn't fly outside of 4chan.

Hmmmmm...
I went to look in his twitter likes and this is the first thing that showed up

This guy works for him btw.
I've only been glancing at the arguments here, so I apologize if my point's already been made:

There is no way for us to look into PewDiePie's brain and see what his intent is. We've all said stupid things with good intentions so I can understand how that's something people will want to defend, but all we have are PewDiePie's actions and context to determine what he means. Based off that:

PewDiePie has done numerous videos with Nazi or anti-Semitic images, with no obvious ridicule of the messages,

PewDiePie associates with people who are are aggressive against social justice.

PewDiePie seems to have concern himself how his messages in this particular instance may have been harmful, though he's previously adjusted his message based of criticism (rape jokes).

I still don't know what his intent is, but there's reasonable doubt here. I'm not going to assume it's good just because he wants me to. He may just want me to assume good intentions because it's advantageous to him.

I dont know if PDP is anti-Semitic himself or not. What I know for certain is that the statement "Death to all Jews" is literally the definition of antisemitism.

anti-Semitic
adjective:
hostile to or prejudiced against Jews.

Given the above definition, how would you define the statement?

How is the ridicule not obvious? In the "death to all jews" video he's joking about Keemstar being anti-semitic. The one where he wears a maga hat and puts a image of Hitler as interlude is him parodying drama channels and calling them nazis (even putting the logo of that drama channel in hitler's armband.

Did anyone actually watch the damn videos? Dude is edgy as fuck and can't pull off a joke, but come on. I agree with Disney dropping him but the dude isn't a nazi.

All those millions of dollars and he's that creatively bankrupt? I don't get this world. Stop giving this dude money and start giving it to real artists with talent that are struggling to get noticed.

If this means he has more freedom and can continue with his brand of comedy, I'm happy th this happened. He's self-assured and I don't think this will hurt him too bad, his fans will still be his fans (myself included).

Considering how big those partners are, it makes sense for them to have pulled out over edgy jokes like that so they wouldn't have a possible PR disaster but I seriously doubt it's gonna majorly affect PewDiePie. He's way too big to fail.

And say stuff enough and I'll start to believe you. He doesn't have to make me believe it. Just say it a few times, and now I think you believe it.

One or two times is wrong, but can be explained. But 9!!

I finally realized there are two different threads about this, this got me really confused lol.

This. As if his fans care about who his corporate sponsors are...his docu show is YouTubeRed right? If anything google is going to massively hurt that platform.

I am against this kind of humor and what I understand to be a half apology. I don't get the cult of personality, but I feel like, in many ways he wields far more power than a Mel Gibson or Hulk Hogan or Donald Sterling. He is directly connected to his fans, and no corporation can control his influence or the loyalty to he and his personality.

Whatever your stance is on his humor or his intentions, he is going to come out the absolute winner with this press.

Please, to anyone who's trying to defend his actions as some sort of "joke" or "absurdist humor" or innocent mistake...just stop.

He could have told those kids to write anything on that sign. It could have been "PewDiePie rulez" or "Spankings $5" or "We have vaginas" or anything else. He specifically chose "Death to All Jews."

Do you think that was an accident?

Is this racist? Yes.
Is this anti-Semitic? Yes.
Is there any valid defense for this? No.

So just stop.

And there is a difference between using antisemitic statements and being anti semitic.

No, I don't think so. If you were not anti-Semitic, why would you use anti-Semitic statements? There is no valid reasoning for that, either.

Pewds, the great satirist of our time.

He may not be an anti-semite but he's fucking irresponsible and careless. It's especially deplorable considering his demographic; people who surely don't understand the difference between a horrible attempt at comedy and a statement.

I agree with everything you said.

He has the eyes, ears, and hearts of 53 MILLION people. Whether or not he likes it, he has a profoundly more influential voice than almost anybody in the media. A resounding voice of a generation. Whether he likes it or not, he dominates a platform and can influence what is socially acceptable to his fans across the world. He doesn't have to be a saint, but there has to be some social responsibility on his part.

I haven't watched it but it better be something along the lines of "His free speech isn't being violated."

He basically says that "He can say whatever he wants (free speech) but he can expect consequences from that."

He also touches on him having over 50 million subs and how with an audience of that side that he can influence many people with anything he says and how it's a big responsibility.

He nails it. The people who think pewdiepie is a racist who should lose his career may disagree tho.

Offensive and "risky" jokes are funnier to many people. I understand why he got himself in that mess but that doesn't make him a bad person or a nazi or anti-semitic. Just stupid maybe.

And i'm saying this without being a fan.

wtf dude, do i have to watch all of his content from the start of his career to have an opinion? I watched the particular video that started this mess before it blew up.

I assume you were a fan then?

Offensive and "risky" jokes are funnier to many people.

So I should suggest that all black people should die, or all LGBT people should die, because someone might find it funny?

This was not like the usual stupid race jokes such as "Jews have all the money" or "all black people steal cars," which can certainly offend people, but also have the potential to be funny in the right context and when presented to the right group.

This is not that.

This is trying to make humor of genocide. And at that, genocide towards a people who have already been senselessly murdered by the millions.

If you somehow find this to be funny, then this is YOUR problem, and not anyone else's.

Well, I guess there's that... he's not flying a flag for genocide though and that's kind of my point. He's framed his views as 'straight-talking', 'anti-establishment' and in 'the national interest' and it's worked pretty well. Enough to put him in the White House, at least.

My point is, more broadly, that parading around in a nazi uniform or making statements like 'Death to the Jews' does not immediately make him an ally (unwitting or otherwise) of a political right who don't largely view themselves as fascist tyrants.

They're more likely to rally behind someone who runs a YT channel debunking feminist theories and dropping sick burns on SJWs.

Is that reasonable?

Learn some history, that is exactly what the Nazis did to get in to power. They didn't run a campaign on death camps, they made them once they had the power they needed.

When Pewdie does it, it's not. Although i did laugh at his reaction when the guys revealed the banner.

When South Park does it i do find it funny though. I do laugh at Cartman being dressed as Hitler doing his hate speech in fluent German. I laugh at it because it's so over the top and wrong.

Take his millions and ride off into the sunset I say.

He is stupid for saying what he did and instructing those kids to write that garbage. Anyone labeling him one way or the other are making pretty large assumptions.

Hate crimes against Jews and other minorities have been drastically on the rise since Trumps election.

So the last thing we need is some piece of shit that has an insane amount of popularity amongst the youth of today, going around making anti-Semitic "jokes".

Children are impressionable, they look up to this cunt like he's their hero.

Anyway joke or no joke. If someone said death to all Jews or made a holocaust joke to my face I'd knock them the Fuck out.

It's true that the creators of South Park are two gay Jewish men, but the real difference here is that we never see South Park suggesting "death to all Jews" or similar.

We see Cartman acting like a horrible asshole because he *is* a horrible asshole, and that is the takeaway.

Personally, I don't feel as if this is the same thing. I say this as a Jew and a fan of South Park. I also try to appreciate all different kinds of humor. But I just can't see the humor in this situation.

I also don't think it helps that South Park is not for children, and never bills itself as being for children, and does not try to appeal to children, and is not watched by millions of children (as far as I know), but PDP has millions of children and teens watching him and is fully aware of this.

Not sure how to take this. On one hand, some of his jokes are so sarcastic and over so many heads that people actually enjoy it. On the other hand, his jokes touch sensitive subjects and when not interpreted correctly, can cause issues.

Then again, people got extremely angry at Dave Chappelle recently(before his SNL skit) for being and talking like Dave Chappelle circa 2003. The same people that would have applauded and laughed with his efforts in 2003 are quite possibly the same ones not cool with some of his controversial jokes anymore.

This all makes me question if controversial jokes fly anymore, even if you are a big name/well known.

Ok i understand more clearly what you are saying.

Still, i wouldn't label him as a bad person yet. But i do agree that his audience is not the same as Matt & Tray's so he should have been more careful with this stuff. Whatever damages are caused to his business are deserved for being so careless.

He has repeatedly made anti-semitic statements. It wasn't once or twice. What he posted and did is literally definition of hate speech.

Throw in repeated n word jokes and it makes him at the least sympathetic to white supremacist views and at worst a racist and anti-semite.
