NYT: Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contacts With Russian Intelligence

He will need to be impeached as well. Paul Ryan will get to president yikes

Ryan is a weasel but he is far from the monsters running the show now. I'd prefer him to Pence even - especially since his administration would be ham-stringed by illegitimacy from day one.

If there's no evidence of collusion, what they hell were they talking about? Seriously, what does an American presidential campaign have to discuss with foreign intelligence agents?

I think it basically went like this:

Russia: Hey Trump we will make the democrats look bad by hacking their servers and you get to be president.

Trump: and what you will get?

Russia: Be our bitch and also remove the sanctions. You also get to be president because if your hyper inflated ego.

Trump: I will be your orange little bitch! Please go balls deep.

Russia: ok deal

I feel like this is big... but everytime something "big" gets revealed nothing significant really happens... so I don't know how to feel yet.

I mean, a major cabinet member resigning because he was caught lying is actually extremely fucking significant in the grand scheme of things.

Its because we're getting leaks of an ongoing investigation. Could still be months before the head of the snake is cut but for now, breadcrumbs for journalists to follow and for public consumption.

Imagine if one of the names was Pence.

I doubt it. My impression of Mike Pence is that he's a Hank Hill type character. Ridiculously patriotic and only continuing to defend Trump because he truly can't believe the allegations. And he would have been kept far away from the real corruption.

I imagine if he were ever shown incontrovertible evidence, he'd be truly outraged.

Saying it was effectively nothing 24 hours after it happened is nothing but blind pessimism. It's a useless attitude.

It's hard not to feel this way after... well, numerous rollercoasters. But at least some good news so far is:

1. Flynn is gone, leaving a trail of destruction for this admin
2. Immigration ban from EO has been suspended

So few presidents get a defining moment of their presidency that will color their place in history all in their first month.

Trump really is high energy!

Period.

Effectively, it was nothing. Wake me up when Trump is gone or the overarching agenda changes, I don't really care who is in the cabinet chairs.

National security adviser is not nothing, and Flynn was an especially crazy and dangerous person to have in that job. His removal from the White House is a huge win.

Maybe This was Obama plan all along to completly bury Trump and Reps.

I dunno about that but I sort of feel that Clinton winning would just end up being a Democratic Party bloodbath in 2018 and 2020. They weren't going to win the senate or house in 2016 so it'd just be another 4 years of obstructionism only that Clinton/Kaine are in charge and not Obama. I don't think it would have ended all too well.

I mean, yeah, only Donald Trump has the skill to get through a 4 year term in <2 months.

Sure sounds a lot better than what is happening.

Win... torwards what?

I'm rooting for the downfall of Trump, but I am really struggling to see how this changes anything other than "Flynn is gone."

White House is smart and will never respond. Names never released. Crisis averted.

That's not how media works.

They give them a period to comment, and then they'll release the names if they don't. Which makes the White House look even worse.

People really need to calm down. Trump won't get impeached for this. Stop dreaming about a Paul Ryan presidency. It won't happen.

Does this story really matter?

I don't see a smoking gun. The Trump campaign has been lying to America for more than a year. Spicer and aides have had no problem lying to the public.

Republicans are going to brush it off with "So what?" And as long as the sanctions don't change, I'm inclined to think their strategy will work.

I hope they find something that implicates Trump. But the Trump team is using autodelete apps and communication channels. No one seems to seriously care about accountability. And as long as that's the case, I'm not getting my hopes up.

It may not lead to the instant gratification of the admin downfall, but it puts a wide magnifying glass on them even among supporters. If light continues to shine through, things tend to burn.

It is absolutely something because it 100% proves there was truth to all of the rumors of Russia collaborating with Trump cabinet members. It's the first domino to fall.

So just not report on it? Come on.

At this point you know someone has the smoking gun. It's coming damn soon too. You can see it.
I'm beginning to think Trump knew this was coming soon. Pressure is put on Flynn to be the fall guy and bury it from there. Just underestimated what happens when you make enemies of the IC and the media.

I mean, a major cabinet member resigning because he was caught lying is actually extremely fucking significant in the grand scheme of things.

Especially in under a month. I don't know how anyone can say "nothing is happening."

There are several ongoing investigations into the Trump-Russia connection, Flynn resigned in a borderline treasonous scandal, and the Muslim ban was a miserable failure, hamstrung in no small part by Trump's own statement of intent and his disrespect for the separation of powers.
