NYT: Trump Campaign Aides Had Repeated Contacts With Russian Intelligence

Guys I think declaring war on the intelligence community was a bad idea.

Though he only did it because they had evidence of his wrong doing. In theory this would of always came out, he just started a fight because he would hope it would intimidate them.

I've loved watching this as it's been so scandalous. I do worry about Aus politics, with all these preferential deals being made with One Nation. They're obviously hoping for a Trump-style groundswell of racism and xenophobia to carry them. Sad!

Our internet finally got fixed today so I can stream this sweet, sweet news all evening with some wine.

As someone who has generally voted Liberal in Federal and State elections (not always though, and I always tick all the boxes myself anyway), the deal with One Nation has made voting very easy in the upcoming WA state election.
And in a very large way I have the US election to thank for that clarity. Seeing what happened with Trump has made me reflect on how in the past I've sort of covered my ears in regards to certain political shortcomings in Australia. But those days are behind me.

This is big. Depending on the transcripts of their conversations, this has the potential to be HUGE. If hacking the DNC comes up at all, heads are going to roll. At that point, the trick will be to connect it to Trump.

Nixon fell because it was connected to him, whilst someone like Regan was never impeached because a connection could not reasonably be made (even though every person with half a brain knew he was deep in Iran-Contra).

We'll see where this goes. Part of me thinks there's no way his campaign could be that stupid and inept, but then I remember this is Trump we are talking about.

Fox news right now.

So if Trump is impeached, who would be president? Pence? Or would all of Trump's people be ousted too? (the ones that are connected to Russia, that is?)

Well first he both needs to be successfully impeached by the House, then the Senate has to approve the impeachment by a 2/3rd vote(which acts as a conviction and forces him out while also ensuring he is barred from ever holding a public office position again).

No president has yet ever reached a full impeachment conviction(though both Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton were impeached by the House, but were not convicted by the Senate and thus were able to maintain their position). Nixon resigned to avoid the expected impeachment trials.

Keep in mind also that Republicans do have majority, so this could be a LONG process, one in which is still an uphill battle until enough mounting evidence ensures the R party turns hard on him(they are a bunch of selfish pricks, so there is hope).

If and when that happens, and assuming Pence is not liable and still in office. It would go to him likely. Depending on how crazy this thing turns out, who knows though.

Completely wrong. He did so much. Think about it. If he came out and made these claims people would have been shellshocked and the immediate reaction would have sunk the whole thing. Dont underestimate racism and how the right would have dismissed it as political bullshit. But what he did do was allow the agencies to share confidential data previously unavailable amongst themselves and went out with a positive note saying the American people had all the capability to save themselves. You all know Obama was black right? I mean, for real he has that shit to deal with too, he's the one playing 4d chess here.
Not to mention the actions Obama took against Russia right before he left office, leaving Trump with a real hot potato that would make him look like Russia's bitch if he eased off Russia within the first few months of entering office. He set Trump up with a really precarious situation with the country that is currently allegedly blackmailing him.

This is from the Huffington Post article:

This might be a chance for McCain to go down in the history books. He might not have been President, but he can be the Republican that puts country over party to get to the bottom of this.

It'll be crazy if he was playing nice with his votes just to keep mining for gold. Or at least, that's how he'll be able to spin it.

They'll wait for the polls leading to the 2018 elections and take appropriate action or do nothing.

The sheer speed with which this escalated is rather breathtaking. We knew elements, or at least suspected them, during the campaign. But in a week we've gone from talk of the press secretary - just the mouthpiece of the administration - being replaced, to a senior advisor getting ousted, to this.

And it's still just getting started. Trump has been in office less than a month. 0_o

Fucking insane. I can't believe what I'm witnessing still.
