The Logan Act (1 Stat. 613, 18 U.S.C. § 953, enacted January 30, 1799) is a United States federal law that details the fine and/or imprisonment of unauthorized citizens who negotiate with foreign governments having a dispute with the United States. It was intended to prevent the undermining of the government's position.[2] The Act was passed following George Logan's unauthorized negotiations with France in 1798, and was signed into law by President John Adams on January 30, 1799. The Act was last amended in 1994, and violation of the Logan Act is a felony.

I don't think the Logan Act has ever actually been enforced, so without precedent it becomes harder to push for the appropriate punishment. Hopefully this does set that precedent because it is a clear violation of the law.

People are just pouncing on any tweet from any person online that feeds their need for swift action on this administration.

I think I will take a break from this thread (or any like it) for awhile.

If something meaningful happens, I'll be back.

Yes?

Frightening to see the lengths and hoops people jump through to remain in power, even in a supposed democracy. Shit is insane.

Those in power tremble at the thought of losing even a portion of it. They shudder at the idea of being seen as equal to their peers and adversaries. They tremble at the notion that they must share power among those they detest for the existence of a fair and balanced government. They horde power like a dragon hordes gold, stockpiling power and sitting on it for their sole consumption, no matter how many would benefit from dispensing the great wealth their power represents. Power is corrupting; it can make monsters of good men, villains of heroes, fools of sages, and tyrants from liberators. Power is all they exist for, all that they are, and it's all-consuming, pervading every thought and action they take, all in the preservation of the power they possess and the hope that they can only grow more powerful at the expense of others.

Power justifies atrocities in the name of peace, it encourages discrimination in the name of security, and it validates treason in the name of self-preservation.

Never underestimate the corrupting influence of power, no matter what political party you ascribe yourself to.

Well it most certainly might be legal for Flynn or any Trump team member to talk to Russia.. but I think there must be something nasty in those transcripts. From the sounds of it, under Comey, the FBI is going to be of absolutely no help in the matter.

This guy's a nut
That was the same response when he was single handedly beating the Russia, Flynn, Manafort connections.

Same thing about the dossier. It's all nutty! Slowly but surely, every bit is being confirmed.

He went after Flynn as his primary target, now Flynn is gone from the top natsec job because of SIGNT, just like he predicted.

Well, we got our Russian mole president. Thanks Trump voters.

Hopefully the truth comes out eventually, and let the chips fall where they may. Props to our senators, both Democrat and Republican, who are demanding answers on this.

We've discussed this guy on GAF before, he says outrageous things for attention on Twitter, stop fucking following him.

To be fair, the last time he went on a crazy rant, it turned out to be a pretty big deal, if the current national news stories are any indication. He knew about this Flynn thing over a month ago, and knew it would come to this.

Not sure how you can call him out for saying outrageous things, if they turn out to be true, and a pretty big deal. (I don't follow him, btw, nor am I defending overuse of hyperbole, but dude was bang on)

How can even Trump supporters make sense of how he is calling the Russia links:

- Fake news
- Nonsense
- Conpiracy theories
- Blind Hatred
- Coverup for Hilary's losing campaign (wut)

AND saying the IC is leaking classified information. Does not compute. If he thinks the leaks are illegal, he is confirming that it's true.

I mean, we knew he talked to russia, and as long as it was about setting up a meeting in the future it was fine

The issue was discussing the sanctions while Obama was still president

He was "bang on" about Michael Flynn Jr. being paid by the Kremlin itself?

Yup. People in the IC knew as soon as he started saying that stuff about Putin. It's SOP. When someone is saying things and you can't figure out the motive, you start looking into them being compromised.

Malcolm Nance, former IC, and frequent MSNBC guest, has been banging those same drums since at least August. It's been seemingly obvious to anyone who has experience with these things.

I meant he was bang on about Flynn Sr, and his calls with ambassador. That's what the news is about, right? As for Flynn Jr, who the hell knows anymore... nothing would surprise me at this point.

It's kinda crazy that a Republican president and government pushed through the Patriot Act and gave the NSA incredible power to listen in on all conversations with non-citizens and citizens alike and that same party is now lashing out on the fact that the NSA has the power to find out that the Trump team is doing treasonous shit.

Fucking disgusting and pathetic that so many Republicans are running around fretting over the leaks and calling for investigations on the leaks.

Cowards. Party over country. I hope they are punished electorally like we've never seen before.

So who told Flynn to contact the Russians? You don't just call a foreign government representative to discuss things you have no control over on your own behest.

Specifically he was on point that those calls were all recorded. And that this would lead to his downfall.

The people who vote republican are ok with this.

Just reading the comments on Trumps tweets this morning, are the replies usually this visceral or are people starting to wake up..?

I didn't see any ads for "Liberal tears mugs", just a lot of angry replies. People are pissed.

Something that seems to be getting buried is Russia blatantly testing the line with their missile test and ship right off the coast of Delaware. Our military doesn't know how to respond because no one's at the helm of Titanic America. Scares the shit out of me.

A part of me is happy, because it's far easier to catch people trying to cover up their crimes than it is proof of the original crime.

With so many of them running around with their heads cut off and the IC and FBI leaking like a faucet, someone is bound to crack and do what they need to do for self-preservation.

Right now, they're like the crew of the Titanic more concerned that people will find out they hit the iceberg instead of warning the passengers that the ship is sinking.

Yup, this story needs to keep escalating and keeping the heat on them.

He always goes completely insane though and makes hyperbolic claims. "Trump will die in jail!!"
