Today in DCEU: Warner wants Mel Gibson directing Suicide Squad 2

You think DC fans are bad you should see Marvel fans reactions to Sam Wilson Cap, or female Thor, or Riri Williams as Iron Man.

You're absolutely right. I only mentioned DC because it related to the movie in question. But yes, mainstream comic book fandom in general is awash in heinous sexism, racism, anti-Semitism, you name it. Much like video game fandom, sadly.

A Refn Suicide Squad would be pretty sick.
It would have probably been a bit better than what we got in the first one now that I think about it.

Wasn't he begging WB to direct Wonder Woman and also a Batgirl movie a while ago?
Not sure if he was even serious but that would have been pretty amusing.
Yeah, he says he was in early talks to do a WW film with Christina Hendricks as WW. But WB didn't want Christina apparently so Refn left the project.

Now that I think about it even more, Refn probably is more likely than Mel to do a DC film.

Nobody of any talent should be getting involved with the current DC Universe. Let it burn out.

Didn't Mel said he doesn't get the appeal of blockbuster comic films because there is no drama or stakes. He isn't wrong because the heroes survive.

So what exactly do you wish to accomplish with your crusade in here?

The backlash would not be insane. Dude is up for an Oscar!

To the people that made Suicide Squad profitable, yeah that backlash would be real. They aren't oscar people. They're the people he was insulting.
And forget about the fandoms. Fandoms didn't buy all of those tickets. Those were regulars sold on seeing something that looked cool on a Saturday night.

Yes, he actually insulted CMB films. This seems more like a choice that WB wants to see happen, just because they distributed Hacksaw Ridge. I don't see him agreeing to direct Suicide Squad 2 at all.

I'm not really sure defending a dude that never apologized for saying "I hope you get raped by a pack of niggers" is the hill you wanna die on.

Not a crusade at all. My original point was that I don't foresee a great backlash if Mel Gibson directs Suicide Squad 2. It's not like comic book fans by and large are beacons of progressiveness and tolerance.

Honestly, I'm fine with this if it means the movie will have its own artistic vision.

The DCEU is beyond saving. Might as well go balls out and have the movies be standalone

But do you really think those regulars will care what the director once said or even who the director is? It still will probably look cool to them.

His line against comic movies was about the shallow violence, and having seen Hacksaw Ridge, it's easy to see his distinction. Who knows how he'll bring that quality to a comic movie, especially if he's forced to work towards PG-13.

You do know people outside of comic book fans watch comic book movies right?
You do know that black people (you know, that group of people he insulted) starred in Suicide Squad right? And might not want to work with someone that alludes to them as a pack of animals, right?

We're like 2 major movies in, calm down.

Shut up old man.

Well, three..but yeah, agreed.

Keep ignoring that comic book fans aren't the primary ticket holders and aren't the target audience anymore (never really were)...

Didn't I just say that I do believe that to be the case? Let's take you to Birth of a Nation 101.

Wasn't that supposed to start filming soon?

They scrapped the script and are restarting from scratch, it sounds like.

And Matt Reeves is the director (Dawn and War of the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield director). Some are saying he's still in talks, while others are flat out saying he's signed on.

If they don't want to work with him, that's great and admirable. But then I look at Andrew Garfield, who is Jewish, and the great glowing things he said about the guy, and I begin to have my doubts that principles won't crumble.

You know you just said "The jew signed off on him, so he is cool" right?

Why not give him that Green Lantern Corps movie? They were describing that as "Lethal Weapon in space," right? At least that I could sorta make sense of in my head.

I hated Suicide Squad but I think having a diverse cast and female characters in prominent roles was part of the magic formula that made it do so well at the box office. That's still not something we've see too much of yet. Putting Gibson on it takes away a lot of that goodwill.

That being said, I look at that shortlist and he's the only director that wouldn't get turned into hamburger meat by a movie of this size. They can't find anyone else? lol
