Light years ahead of the Wii U menus at launch lol.

Looks like a very nice and fast UI, does the job nicely. I'm glad they have kept it simple so that most of the consoles ram will be used for games.

It appears you can lower the screen resolution to 480p if you want.

That would probably increase battery life, correct?

Just says TV resolution, doesn't it? Although I don't know why you'd want to change that...it would be cool to have the option to play at 480 on the tablet itself, for battery life and especially if you could shrink it down to look sharper.

How on earth is that even remotely true? It doesn't support multi-tasking, suspend functionality, the ability to access the primary UI in-game, the ability to directly load from one app/game into another, in-game notifications. Even if we don't want to get into the odd layout, the lack of customization, the incredibly outdated aesthetic approach, OR the terribly atrocious speeds, it doesn't even match the other more modern OSes on a functionality level.

This seems literal lightyears ahead of the WiiU OS.
I'm assuming they mostly mean the UI and not the OS features. Because holy hell is the PS4's UI/layout atrocious in this age of user friendly tablet/smartphone/computer interfaces. Not sure how the XB1's is. The Wii U's layout or aesthetic is really not that odd or outdated...it's pretty much just the app layout that most smart devices have today.

25.9 GB of free space on it.

Yeah that's a fairly large amount of space for such a barebones OS. I wonder if a lot of the day one system update will just be unlocking certain features.

Theres no Activity Log...and Zelda doesn't have an ingame timer...which means I'll have to use a timer and manually add up my playtime.

My god Nintendo. Why did you remove the AL? This is fucking ridiculous.

The activity log is included, at the very least as part of the parental controls app. Probably eventually in the OS itself too.

Speaking strictly in terms of aesthetics and design. The XB1 UI is the worst console UI I've ever had to deal with, PS4 is functional but boring and somewhat cumbersome. Wii U doesn't have the functionality but it's deliberately simple, easy to navigate, and aesthetically pleasing.

I can't state how much I hate the XB1 UI though after dealing with that headache for my nephews over the holidays. What a sluggish, poorly designed piece of shit.

This might be the final straw for me to buy my first Nintendo system since the fat silver DS came out. I skipped the 3DS and WiiU and barely ever used a Wii that a friend gave me.

The SD card thing's fine with me, at least it isn't proprietary like the shit Vita memcards.

Nothing with friends.

No friends list, no friends online.

Yep as nice as this OS is (and I do really like it) Nintendo is still hopelessly behind the times in so many ways.

Why is there no friends section? Why can't I directly compare games with friends? Why can't I see who is online? Why is there no activity feed?

I'll still never be ok with the idea of all this being handled by a phone app, and hope that one day they'll extensively patch this all in.

Edit - Oh ok, we haven't seen the full range of what it offers there then? I also didn't notice the "Link ID for friends features" section. It went by so fast.

I assume they reserve a part for updates. Maybe also for screenshots since the number of them is limited?

I really liked it too, but this is a joke tho right? you are not going to actually write down your gaming time manually for every session, right?

hiphoptherobot.

Would it be possible for you to post a vid of you installing a micro SD card, formatting and setting it up.

Fake edit: I don't think SD cards work until the day 1 update.
I think it's just the SDXC (?) that requires an update.

Let's light some candle for the guy in front of the NY store since two weeks to have the first Switch "in the world"

And this is exactly why we still need a Direct.

RGB Range option???!!!
Holy shit Nintendo, you really are serious with the Switch!

We talked about it in the thread, he was never going to be first in the world :P There will be thousands of switch owners by the time he gets even close to the store opening. (Here in New Zealand, Australia, etc)

I like how the stuff everyone's getting excited about are probably just stock features of the X1 chipset that Nintendo probably just had no reason to remove.

I love the Wii U UI. Same with the 3DS. I've never had an issue trying to find something on either. Compare that to the PS3/PS4 where everything is a pain to deal with.

That's fair, I was forgetting about the Xbox One. It's awful; I actually sold mine to support my Switch purchase. I was getting next-to-no use out of that thing, I've had a ton of consoles from a ton of different companies over the years and the Xbox One might be the most poorly designed and maintained platform I've had.
