Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

Games featured, quick menu etc.

As much as people are calling the system's OS and features spartan and basic and all that stuff:

They've got the usability stuff absolutely fucking down to a T.

Looking at the GameXplain OS tour, the Switch OS is packed with thoughtful options and clever details.

Yeah, my biggest concern coming from Wii U was speed. Very pleased to see a very responsive UI, especially in a portable console.

I haven't seen any discussion in previews regarding this functionality. Any links to eshop and account previews?
The update isn't live yet for press. But Nintendo just said today there will be eshop download only games at launch. So the account and eshop are there at launch.

I honestly think this is a "soft launch".

Get the Nintendo hardcore to buy this thing, then iron out the problems for the masses in September or whenever Mario releases.

Soft launch just sounds like a nicer way of saying undercooked. You look at full online launching in the fall, no VC at launch, a sparse lineup in the spring that looks a hell of a lot better by the fall, and other parts and it's clear they were forced to get this out by March to hit the fiscal year and make their numbers look good. That's fine, the hardcore will jump on it immediately and the more casual people should jump in in a few months. But it's pretty clear that the first 6 months of this thing is basically a beta test, so calling it undercooked is fair

There's no online functionality yet right?

No way to sign in with your nnid or Nintendo account?
No eshop?

I hate the wiiu and 3ds sluggish ui. Even settings has to load in and out. Glad switch is fast

No, should be ready before launch though

Gamecentral couldn't resist sneaking this little bit in about Zelda despite the embargo:

We will risk a shuriken to the head from Nintendo’s ninja lawyers by saying that Zelda is everything you will have hoped for, and more, but we won’t be able to do a proper preview until tomorrow.

I can count the number of times I've seen someone on GAF profess their love for an activity log before today on no hands.

Glad I'm getting a pro controller even though I'm on team #dayonepatch for this Joycon syncing issue. I doubt it will be a long-term problem.

The rest of this sounds like standard launch stuff. Launches are seldom great.

We've known about the lack of features since the stolen unit leak.
Glad it seems to actually run really smoothly even without the day one update. Wii U left a sour impression on me and a lot of people (a friend of mine sold it after launch and never repurchased due to how broken the whole thing felt)
3DS launched in a more bare-bones manner that, while running fairly smoothly, it lacked an eShop for months.
Hope the eShop is good. Weird that we still don't know what it looks like. That also means reviewers are playing with the day 0 version of Zelda, or I'd assume so.

Saw someone criticizing outdoor use. I'm not sure who actually thought they'd be able to comfortably use the Switch outdoors thanks to the edge-to-edge (typical tablet) glossy screen and ~300 nit brightness, but of course it won't work well. The Wii U screen is resistive touch, and as such, it's got a little bit of a matte finish to it, but all tablet screens are glossy and highly reflective. We do laptop/tablet reviews professionally at Notebookcheck.net and I have yet to see one which does not.

People complaining about an activity log and I'm like, not even sure what an activity log is...

What have I been missing?

Strange, I've never experienced this with any other wireless controllers. When you say Channel, do you mean the band? Because I currently have a dual band setup going in my house, and I kind of need to because not all of my devices recognize the 5ghz band.

No, channel; specifically of the 2.4ghz band, which has 11 channels. Try changing it between 1, 6, and 11 and see if the input delay clears up on any of them. Though even if it is interference, this might not fix the issue if your router isn't the source.

Yep. Most consoles arent worth it at launch unless you really just want one. I want one and zelda will be awesome.

I was an early ps4 adopter and nothing really grabbed me until bloodborne which came out almost 1.5 years after launch.

Sometimes I think about canceling my preorder, but it just makes no sense for me, because why wait for like a whole year to save maybe 50 bucks?

Hahaha, they even used the dark theme to make it extra dramatic.

That shit is grasping at straws...

Hope that's the end of that nonsense...

Any other outlets reporting about the screen outdoors?

This could seriously make me cancel my pre-order

Just cancel and get it over with if you think is worth canceling over :D

Some good news from Endgadget regarding Zelda:

"it also performed a lot better than it did at preview events, where I noticed stuttering and occasional slowdown while it was connected to the dock. I wasn't expecting much from the Switch's graphical capabilities, but there are plenty of moments where Breath of the Wild is just strikingly beautiful."

Is that a common expectation now?

Same here, the library on the PS4 until Bloodborne dropped was rough as fuck. It has been tremendous ever since and I have 0 doubts Nintendo will do that too (even though I'm not as down on the launch line-up as a lot of people are).

A ranked list showing how many hours in total you put into each game on the system. On 3DS anyhow, Wii U version was organised by month and not very good.

So did they try connecting it to a secured network? Like, to test the pop up browser

I read earlier it will pop up and let you sign in.

Dualshockers said you couldn't connect in these circumstances.

While I was using the console on-the-go, I was able to test out WiFi access on WiFi's that require browser authentication and agreement of terms. As expected, without an Internet browser on Day 1, players will be unable to connect to these networks — perhaps a work-around will be given in the Day 1 update.
