Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

the buttons and analogue sticks look so tiny based on that comparison next to dual shock 4. i had to buy rubber stick covers to make them bigger for DS4 since i thought those were too small.

Oh, they're far smaller.

Has anyone confirmed yet that you can/cannot connect Bluetooth headphones? I'm assuming no, but I haven't seen anything definitive.

Like I said to Jax, there's currently no option I can see to connect Bluetooth anything.

Gamexplain on joycon:

  • No problem the first day
  • Changed room
  • You run in zel... a game and then stop but the character doesnt stop.
  • Several lag issues in a few minutes

Probably interference.

Yeah, I got to hold the system and accessories when I ran into a Nintendo rep setting up a display kiosk at my local GameStop
I wasn't so lucky but some friends who tried it in Milan compared it to the WaveBird and praised its ergonomics. Two of them said that the Pro Controller was even better, the other one said that it was good enough to avoid spending 70 bucks more at D1. I'm taking his word for now.

Thanks. I thought I heard Zelda was performing better in HH than docked mode though?

That was version 12S, we don't know yet if that's the case with the final version too or if Nintendo fixed those problems when docked.

Basically everything I'm reading is in line with my expectations, so all of this sounds fine to me. I spend about 1% of my gaming time in the OS, so as long as the thing boots up and plays games, I'm fine with that. I have my TV and iPad for Netflix, and rarely ever use anything but those two devices for it.

I'll almost never be playing the system with joycon detached since I'm getting a Pro Controller, and would prefer to use that at home anyways, so even the sync issue doesn't bother me. Of course that should definitely be fixed for those who will. I am also gettong 1-2-Switch though, so I guess I'll see firsthand how that goes with friends.

I'd like VC, but when I look at the number of VC games I've purchased ever, it's about a total of 9, a majority of which are those games Nintendo sold for $.99 on the Wii U when they came out.

The lack of video apps (tons of ways we do this already), browser (who the fuk uses a browser on a console anyway), and VC (this is almost assuredly coming later) don't bother me. The people who are harping on these points are just nitpicking because they don't have anything else to say.

The only real and substantial problem is the joycon desync issue, because it might be a hardware defect, which I really hope isn't the case.

The people asking why they didn't test bluetooth headphones...did you even watch the menu/UI overview videos? There IS no bluetooth setting! How on earth could they have tested headphones if there's no setting to even pair it?!

Did anyone ever have issues with interference when using their Wii Remotes (also Bluetooth)? Would be strange if it's just that, and only for the left joy-con.

Hm... That'll be interesting to suss out then! Do we know how the Joy Con connect? Xbox One controllers use Wifi and would do the exact same thing for me when either the controller or the console was too close to my router.

Someone clear this one thing up for me: I understand that the separately sold Joycon Charge Grip will charge up the joy cons wirelessly, as it is its own battery pack. However, can the joy cons be charged via USB cable through the standard joy con grip? Or is the grip literally just a holder?

Already have a Wii U, so if Im really eager to play Zelda, I can just get it to the Wii U. Street pass, don't give a fuck. I freaking love stats like how much Ive played a game, so activity logs is fantastic for me, abslutely terrible it isn't on launch. I love to check my playtime stats on Wii U, 3DS and playtime on Steam. No Netflix and YT is also a deal breaker for me.

Feels very rushed. Will wait til christmas.

I'm waiting on a Switch until I know more, but I'm getting Zelda on WiiU, period. It looks great, and I think they've done a good job marketing it.

I also got my art book yesterday, so the hooks are in me deep.

I'm reserving any judgment right now on the Switch since it's not "in the wild", but I admit that everything I'm hearing doesn't come off as attractive. Personal though, and I very much hope that everyone grabbing one has a blast with the games and a great user experience to boot.

honestly the joy con grip reminds me of the wave bird for GCN aka one of the best controllers ever made in terms of ergonomics

I doubt it'll be as good but I'm sure it'll be fine

I'm playing with the split joy con setup tho. my hands will have freedom!
The big issue is that the sticks and buttons are directly on top of one another. It throws off the ergonomics in ways you wouldn't expect.

Well, sounds like it's unfinished for now, will pass (first Nintendo console I pass on since SNES).

March: Horizon, Zelda on Wii U, Mass Effect Andromeda. <3

Yeah, I'm with you (not sure if I'm getting a pro controller off the bat though. None of the OS concerns really seem like issues to me due to what Nintendo seems to be pitching the console as, so as I wrote earlier in this thread, I'm surprised at the shock. I'd rather boot up a game within a few seconds than sift through menus or do things my phone or ipad is already better at doing

The packaged grip is just a holder. The LED lights on it are re-directed from the Joy Con themselves. almost exactly like how the new Dualshock 4 just has a cut-out on the touch pad now as opposed to another lightbar as some thought initially.

I have a lot of Bluetooth devices - frequently they interfere with the receptivity of my Mac keyboard and mouse. Hoping I have no issues with Switch (beyond the obvious ones).

It's just a holder.

I remember early reports of dodgy PS3 controller connections or lag input. I even remember it cutting out while I was playing a game and my character would just keep running in the last direction of input. It happened a bit early, but totally disappeared soon after launch. I'm sure updates will smooth things out if there is a widespread issue.

I mean this isn't just a console. It's a handheld and a tablet. If they do it right it could compete in the tablet market.

nah you've got that wrong. the grip that comes with the switch is just a plastic holder. the charge grip that you have to buy separately is the normal grip with a usb type c port to plug it in to charge.

3 hours is great in all honesty. It's pretty comparable to 3DS with 3D turned on and with full sound/brightness.

I was worried it would be shorter.
It's not great. It was shit with the 3DS and is shit here.

Yes, I'm aware that the limiters here are battery technology, size, and weight.

No, that doesn't matter, because it doesn't suddenly make it better.

Did the leaks ever say that we'd get VC on day one? I thought they just talked about which games were coming. Maybe I'm remembering that wrong...
Eurogamer never said day 1 for VC. They said there would be GC VC though and listed some games. They said NERD was working on them.

bluetooth delay sounds upsetting, sometimes it's a thing you can't do much about because you live next to or above/below others with gadgets.

what do you expect?

I think if they do it right at E3 and have a "relaunch" with basic apps (YouTube, Netflix, Hulu, browser) and a good swath of games in the Fall it might be okay.

Agreed. If there weren't a ton of games launching right now I'd consider it just to play Zelda.

Yeah wasn't going to bother with the Pro Controller but just decided there to order it from Nintendo's store so hopefully i get it on the same day as my switch comes.

I think for a lot of people it just comes down to a balance of needs and expectations versus reality with regards to impressions. Which is fine by me. I can totally understand why people would be upset at some of these things or see them as negatives.

This thing is an anomaly!

In the Polygon comparison it looks just a bit more wide than the Gamepad, but in this video it looks just about the same width. The video has better lighting though so its most likely more accurate. The legend grows

The Wii U gamepad is 10.2 inch wide, while the Switch with joy cons attached is 10.0 inch wide. So, just about the same width.
