Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

Curious to really dig and see if color of the Joy-Con relates to the disconnect issues. Is it effecting both colors or just colored or gray?

They are both msrp $60.

I also don't understand why people are complaining when both the PS4 and Xbox One controllers were $60-65 at launch and did not get discounted for a while. We also have Microsoft selling "custom" Xbox One controllers for $80 and the elusive "elite controllers" for $125-150.
The Switch Pro controller is $70 though.

There were no sync issues with the units at the hundreds of events. Whatever this glitch is, it is obviously gonna have an easy, 2 second fix that probably wont even reach most people
Not sure which podcast I listened to (maybe Easy Allies?) but there definitely was an account from the hands on event when a joycon stopped working and a rep had to replace them.

Yes, but remember that they have a 20 hour battery life. I think you'll be fine if you generally remember to dock your Switch, and Joy-cons, before bed.

Most people don't play video games more than 3 hrs a day, so one won't really have to think about it all that often.

I have had multiple routers within 3 feet of my xbox one since launch and have never had an issue with controllers.

I'm just hoping this joy con issue is some extreme example. Ordered the pro controller, but still.

Lucky! I'm not sure why it was such a problem for me but I just couldn't stand it. I also lived in a city at the time, so it could have just been the combo of my router + neighbors. Had no issues upon taking the console to the third floor though.

Honestly, the JoyCon issue doesn't seem like it's the same scenario and thus it can hopefully be fixed via an update. It seems to consistently be the left JoyCon as well, so it really doesn't make sense that both sides wouldn't have the same issue if it was the review environment.

It's a different color mold of the casing. The hardware internals are the same, I don't know why color would have anything to do with this at all in the first place.

So leaks were wrong then. I think they said VC and whatnot.

Anyways. Can't wait for some Zelda Previews

All leaks were wrong. A particular one especially.

Still, this controler issue is a bit worrying. The VC and video playback not so much. I just hope they have this extra time to make a proper transition with the WiiU... Buy I honestly don't it expect to be free.

For your first part, I suppose, though in all technicality that was possible on 3DS as well if you bought a 3rd party cable with USB.

And we know the Switch's charge time. The time for a full charge is around the same as it is on 3DS.

Full charge yes, but getting to a higher charge % on Switch doesn't take as long as on 3DS.

It's between 15 and 30 dollars more than both the xbox one and the ps4 controllers here in canada. That is quite the difference.

That could be battery? My point is if it was as widespread an issue as has been made out, it would have been a problem at the events

Eugh, these previews are making me really uncertain about my preorder now. I can handle the slim launch lineup but if this desync thing isn't just a firmware bug...Ouch.

That and now confirmed no VC at launch is making this a harder sell.

Engadget slipped in a Zelda tidbit in their Switch preview. Any other outlets say anything about the game today?

Haven't seen any yet. A couple of videos I saw went to the title screen and one said there would be more info tomorrow, but haven't really seen any beyond that.

These are my exact thoughts right now.

OK, here's the plan.

Pick up my preorder. If the issue does not appear, fine. If it appears and they solve it with a firmware update, fine. If it appears and it's a hardware issue and I have to get a free replacement unit, I'll do just that. I'll be fine either way.

Nah, I've been with the Vita and PS4 launch and they weren't remotely similar. WAY more functionality built in. At the launch of both of those, I loved how much you could do on these systems from an OS standpoint. Of course they got better later but even at launch they were far, far beyond the Switch. Launch library you could argue but even that I would disagree with personally.

Right. It's not an important issue to you because YOU have always have a phone or laptop near you. That doesn't mean everyone does. It's convenient to have multiple functions in one device.

So six years. That's crazy. The internet is bigger than ever now, too.
You don't have to buy it at launch bro,its OK to wait.i know we are excited because new system and stuff but its not worth it to get upset over

In fact the true launch will be at the holidays, better solution than Wii U releasing in November very half backed.

You're too surprised, this is a console launch man, thats all you ever get. I've been there for PSP, VIta, PS3 and PS4 launch and every single one was similar. You have to be fine with a drought as well. And buggy software/hardware, a UI that will be good enough, getting shafted by price drops, games that are marked up high as fuck for no reason.

Everything is console launch norm bro, strap into your seat its only getting worse from here.

Can vouch for this, every launch of every new console, add in 360 and One to the mix

Last launch I can remember that didn't have issues was maybe GameCube? I don't remember any issues with my launch 3DS, and although I had no issues the launch Vita had a lot of features missing (but also a lot of features they later phased out)

Is this also an issue when using handheld mode? Since I don't even have a compatible TV, I don't care if it works well when detached from the handheld device.

Too expensive compared to the Xbox One controller.

Oh wait the Switch Pro Controller has 40 hours of battery life with a built in rechargeable battery, HD rumble and NFC.

Maybe the Xbox One controller is too expensive?

I'm not playing 40 hours straight, so that isn't a big draw for me, compared to the competition it's too much for a standard controller. I'm not sold on "HD rumble" gimmick either

It's a different color mold of the casing. The hardware internals are the same, I don't know why color would have anything to do with this at all in the first place.

Different batches was my point. Obviously they are both separated because of color. Just throwing it out there, never know with things like this.

I'd want less money spent on gimmicky features and more of a focus put standard features.

There would be zero (count them zero) that would render at a native 1080p resolution at that form factor on a handheld screen. Let's not even talk about battery life concerns.

Sorry.

Right. It's not an important issue to you because YOU have always have a phone or laptop near you. That doesn't mean everyone does. It's convenient to have multiple functions in one device.

I agree that it's more convenient to have those functions (if it works well) but I don't see it be that big of a deal, especially if it comes later. You are right that it is not an important factor for me but I guess i'm kinda in the majority regarding internet access via smartphone/computer.

The real issue is the lack of communication from Nintendo. We should have way more info right now, regarding the implementation of those functions and all, not that crappy PR bullshit : We have nothing to announce right now.

It's a different color mold of the casing. The hardware internals are the same, I don't know why color would have anything to do with this at all in the first place.

Because the switch knows which color controller you are using tells me that something, even something tiny, is different in terms of hardware.

Thanks for this, I think this is exactly what I'll do.

Why are people giving Nintendo so much shit for selling a $70 pro controller when the DS4 is $65?

It's actually 69€ in Europe and 74.99 for the special colors. So it's the same price or 5 bucks more, but you get like 6 hours battery instead of 40, no HD Rumble, etc
3DS OS slow is true, but crashes?
I'm still rocking a OG 3DS, no problems. Maybe you had a fault unit. It happens.

I believe he meant "at launch". Now it's super stable with all those stability updates

Saving the Activity Log for the "one more thing" E3 megaton, I'm sure.

Clearly. And what a megaton!

I dunno, most people wouldn't call out issues like that at a preview hands on event. Tons of weird issues happen at preview events, and issues like this are only relevant when they happen in a home environment on final hardware (thus why we're hearing about it now). Just my opinion on the situation though.

For example apparently Sonic Mania had tons of glitches during the Switch hands on event, but no one is talking about it because it's expected to have those issues ironed out by the time it releases.

MHWilliams, one more thing about the pro controller on PC; does it work if you try using it over bluetooth? An AMA on reddit seems to be claiming the joycons do.

Eugh, these previews are making me really uncertain about my preorder now. I can handle the slim launch lineup but if this desync thing isn't just a firmware bug...Ouch.

That and now confirmed no VC at launch is making this a harder sell.

Given that the de-sync issue wasn't really present during the preview events, it doesn't seem likely that it's an overall hardware defect. I'm also hoping that they can patch things out, but if it's actually hardware related they'll have a plan to fix/replace it.

Also worth noting that the severity has varied. Jose Otero at IGN noted that it only happened a few times within 20 hours of playing Zelda for him. Jason at Kotaku says it happens constantly.
