Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

Gamexplain on battery
From full charge, max brightness and audio, wifi ON, standing on the cliff at the start of zelda:

  • 62% after an hour
  • 2h 9min low battery warning, 15% left
  • 2h 23min 5%
  • 2h 28min sleep mode.

edit: while playing 30 minutes to charge back up to 10%.

That's not very good.

Can't believe we can't put it on charge when in portable kickstand mode.

I don't really know that anyone knows the answer to that, probably high? But this is Nintendo, so who knows.

Can I ask why she has to buy it in the USA? Is it not going to be available in your country? It's region free, after all. Same thing no matter where you buy it.

It is not oficialy avaliable in brazil and some stores are asking a price that is cheaper to go to the usa and buy there.

And she is going there anyway for work =P

I thought someone else measured 3+ hours? :/

You do realize that their Wii-U stream was 6.5 hours long, right? They played all twenty-three launch titles. Hence why I am guessing this year's stream won't match that with about a third of the amount of games to play.

Also, is Snipperclips confirmed at launch? That game looks rad.
Snipperclips is slated for a generic March release still.

No it won't be at launch. It's got a nebulous March release date

That seems fine to me. I can't imagine ever using full brightness or keeping WiFi on while playing a game like Zelda. Max brightness hurts my eyes on my phone.

That's with max brightness. Gamespot's test at default settings confirmed Nintendo's statement: 3 hours.

Aha! Thank you, missed that detail. I'll be fine on 3+ hours regular brightness on a game like Zelda, that's about what I expected. Especially if I can potentially even do better with less brightness and wifi off when inside.

So, it seems impressions are quite good...

Can someone tell me the difference between preview and review as far as Zelda goes? I mean, there has to be a clear set of rules on what can and can't be said, right?

Yeah, the previews are going to be much more restricted than the reviews. On top of that the reviewers will almost definitely have not come near to finishing the game yet. They'll still give us an overall impression of how the game's shaping up though, we just won't know anything about later on so if it shits the bed 60 hours in we'll only know when reviews come up.

Finally, the size comparison I've been waiting for. People who say the switch "is too big to be a handheld" clearly weren't around for the early 90s. And that's the smaller revision of the Lynx, the original was even bigger. The Game Gear is almost as big.
But the Lynx was too big to be a handheld too.

I can't even use my fucking smartphone for 3 hours at regular brightness let alone full ahah.

But really it sounds about what I expected. It's nice seeing all these previews. Can't believe it's so soon, wish I wasn't away on a trip when mine will arrive

Last I heard was Snipperclips end of March.

I still cannot believe we are getting modern, quality Nintendo hardware and a massive open-world Zelda game that I can play anywhere in 8 days...

... which is my birthday.

I am so fucking ready.

My Wii U is going to be plugged in for another year or two since I still have a bunch of games to 100%. It's a non-issue. Hell, I still have a famicom hooked up.

Whatever makes you happy, my friend. 🤗 I don't collect stuff and I played enough of Wii U's library to feel satisfied with the overall system. And as I said, selling that thing financed my Switch purchase. That's alright by me. I can live with that.

It's with max brightness though. We already know some tests put it at 3 hours (probably a lower brightness and wifi off).

That doesn't seem too bad really, my 3ds would absolutely tear through its battery playing on max brightness.

But for 95% of use cases this battery capacity seems like it'd be fine, in between sessions if you just dock the system it should give you a decent amount of playtime.

Awesome, happy birthday in advance.

I'm so hyped 😄
