Nintendo Switch Previews are coming in

Seems like Japan is getting Neo Geo games in March.

King of Fighters '98, Metal Slug 3, Waku Waku 7, Shock Troopers and World Heroes Perfect

Great news! I'm seeing people who claim this means Virtual Console is coming soon, but I'm not so sure. Neo Geo games just came to Xbox One fairly recently. Not the same titles listed here but to me that shows that they might not be tying them to VC.

That cat is some quality avatar material.

I agree!

watching the switch previews, it seems like they went for the mobile aspect more than the HD aspect for the console. The tablet is smaller than I imagined.

It further fails to justify the price point they choose for me, simply because I would mainly use this as a mobile console to complement my ps4.

I want it, zelda and mario will be amazing, but I will think about getting it in a couple of years, minimum. Maybe by then nintendo will have gone through a price cut (I doubt it, but alas), the games coming out now will be cheaper, or I can get them used cheaper, and there will be more game offers available.

very likely that these are by the same aracde archives people that release stuff on ps4 and xbox one.

not the VC we are expecting or wanting.

although these arcade archives add extras like achievements and leaderboards

Disappointed that the Switch won't support Bluetooth headsets.

The Zelda previews are making me lean towards keeping my pre-order.

Yeah, in the list of game titles they are noted as Ake-Aka i.e. Arcade Archives releases.

I am currently on the fence about buying at launch. Zelda looks really good but the hardware seems rushed to the market to meet their fiscal year, worried if I buy at launch that Rev 0 of the switch will have lots of problems.

Are they usually not good ports? Wouldn't mind revisiting some NeoGeo games while waiting for the VC...

Overall the Switch seems very different than the typical Nintendo approach but still retains the classic appeal of a Nintendo console.

I plan on getting one. In fact, I would really like to pre-order a unit, but it is starting to look like no retailers will be getting any additional stock for retail.

The previews are enjoyable to watch and read, though!

Not that a LOT of early adapters will lose their Joycons but I can see younger kids misplacing them once more families start buying the Switch during the next holiday season. It would have been cool if at least a small speaker was shoved into each Joycon so you could "Ping" them from the Switch console to find them if misplaced.

Does Bluetooth allow for any sort of location data based on signal strength? Distance only is what I'm thinking to let you know if you are closer or further away? Perhaps that is something they could implement without changing any hardware. Just thinking of possibilities, no idea if that could actually work or even be helpful.

oh i think theyre good ports. not 100% accurate emulation especially the sound though.

they add extra stuff aswell.

when i say 'vc we want or expect' i mean a selection of titles from nes/snes/tg16/megadrive etc from nintendo themselves.

the wii had a great vc library. the wii u was shit in comparison.

i hope nintendo get back with the program and give us a better one.

How do accounts work. Can me and my fiancee share the switch and have separate accounts with our own settings and save games?
One of the demo/walkthrough videos of the UI showed that you pick your profile when you go to launch game, rather than like on the Wii U where you pick an account before reaching the dashboard.

Small detail, not sure if discussed, but Nintendo keeps the style of the spines in each region like the Wii, 3DS and Wii U (Font, position, the color scheme to show from which country the game is, for example green = UK, etc.):

Perfect. EU master race once again.

So I went to see it, left after an hour after playing Zelda, Splatoon 2, MK8D (came #1 ^_^) and the marble game. They had arms and some other games there but I just watched them for a bit.

The switch itself is nice! Smaller than I thought - it's definitely portable in a bag no problem. And the screen is decent, shows off small details well. Perhaps a little bit washed out but maybe that was due to the brightness, can't say - it seemed like they had it super bright. Joycons are so tiny and neat! The analogue felt good on them and the "dpad" on Joycon isn't that bad, very easy to press in and not that far apart from each other. I asked to step back about 12-15 feet from the console to test out the range and didn't have an issue.

Pro controller is almost perfect ergonomically! BUT the d-pad is too stiff on it! Way too stiff! I think I preferred the joycon d-pad. It is seriously stiff. But I can't get over how comfortable the controller was to hold. Crazy nice. It would probably be the best controller ever made with analogue triggers and a vita d-pad.

Zelda framerate ain't great... feels a bit slow and choppy like OoT n64, maybe a tad better. Apparently people are saying the final release version is better than the preview build - I'd hope so!
I also found myself using the claw to control it due to the controls, and I never do that with games.

MK8D was MK, though I noticed you could actually hold two items, which I remember not being able to do in the WiiU version for some dumb fucking reason (correct me if I'm wrong). Feels much more like MK because of it.

Splatoon 2 was neat. Attacking is a bit slow (I used the roller after hearing on gaf how OP it was :) it was my first time playing - actually our whole team used it - and won by quite a bit).

HD rumble is pretty good - you get finer sensation for small rumbles and can tell that apart from bigger ones quite easily - though none of us guessed the number of balls correctly but it felt cool for sure. Might be good as a resistance kind of thing with Super Monkey Ball or Kororinpa.

They should totally put Kororinpa on this thing with split screen like on the Wii.

These are separate from VC, but Arcade Archives is a great series with very detailed options (on PS4 at least). I am curious to see if they will have the same options on Switch. I hope we get the entire back catalogue of AA games that are on PS4, such nice variety and truly great games.

Did you notice the HD rumble when using the Pro controller? Did you notice good rumble support in Zelda?

^ Sorry I don't remember noticing HD rumble on the pro controller. I only got to play Zelda for like 10 mins and after 5 mins of walking about I switched to handheld mode which was pretty seamless and quick to do. Felt like it ran a bit better there too.

On the joycon size:

Has anyone read anything in the previews related to heat coming off the docked Switch? My plan is to place the dock on top of my horizontal PS4 but I don't want to run into any problems. Is this even a good idea?

Cross-posting from the Zelda preview thread as I got no answer there. If anyone read Something about it or played that way :

I wonder how good are the joy-cons for mid to long sessions with this config on TV or tabletop

I'm not sure if I missed this, but can I reach/use the eshop stores that aren't my original region? Could I just visit and buy at the JAP or US store while having an EU Switch?

Asking again since I'm still not entirely sure:

Will I be able to connect to my university's internet? It uses WPA-2 Enterprise and practically requires some form of web browser to fully authorize things.

I don't mind not being able to play online (that requires some extra stuff), but it would really suck if I couldn't buy games like Fast RMX or Snipperclips despite those being two launch games I really do want.

It should be able to open a Webpage for verification with the day1 update, or at least it is what nintendo is saying to the reviewers.

Nintendo have said a web applet for connecting to hotspots will be available on release

Out of the box, it won't work. According to press, the day one update adds in that functionality.

Thanks for the answers, but how do I connect to the internet to do the update if I can't get on the web applet? In the wi-fi settings can I put in Username & Password instead of just the latter? Sorry but I am confused here.

I doubt the switch will support WPA-2 Enterprise (I have no idea). Your best bet is probably doing the update somewhere else/try to tether to the pc/phone for the first update.

That sucks, lets hope I can do it all via the web applet then. Though I won't have nearly enough mobile data to tether it that way and I'm pretty sure my Uni doesn't allow "routers" so I'm not sure tethering it with wi-fi would work either...

...man, I can't wait to get out of university accomodation.

That's the thing, You can't access the applet without the day one update. It will be tricky for you, I hope you can manage.

Second picture doesn't seem to work, but... I really hoped that the little triangle was moved to the back like on Australian copies. Would've been great if the whole spine was just red.

I'll likely have to wait until I head home next then (don't know when exactly). I can't even go to a local Starbucks or something because I don't have the patch! Shit sucks, but I guess Zelda can keep me busy for the first week or so. This is the one aspect of Nintendo's consoles I really don't like; the PS4 had me up and running just fine.

I wonder when Nintendo is going to let those with preview units have access to the update. Anyone in the know if Nintendo has said anything on that front to them? Assuming you can even comment on it.

Ocarina of Time was running at 16fps in PAL and 20fps in NTSC, totally unplayable at least for me so I certainly hope BOTW is more than just a tad better! :/
