Alien Covenant - Trailer 2

How come in 1979 and 1986 we were able to get believable looking practical effects based Aliens, but now in 2016 we have to suffer these shitty looking, CGI ass abominations? The Alien looks like hot fucking garbage in this.
Because there aren't enough people who know how to do those effects anymore.

Heeh, I dunno, as much as I love Alien, other than the first scene where he appears (that one is timeless), the Alien looks so much like a dude with a suit.

I think the CG in that GIF looks fine. The problem is more about the design, like the arms, not only he's more ripped, they're totally different. He lost some of the bio-mechanical motifs in his original design.

I have a feeling were not going to see the bio-mechanical alien until the very last scene. If that one on the trailer is all we get that'd be weird as it doesn't seem to have the tubes and other mechanical looking features.

Yep, it's just silly now that this is the third movie on the third separate planet that we see the iconic ship crashed.

'Look woo the Jockey ship you liked'!!!

Unless they pull some lame third act twist and environment disaster that in fact turns this planet into the actual LV-426, which would actually be worse

The 'angry' Alien faces aren't inspiring me either but im part of the problem - I love the Alien schlock and will probably see it in the cinema even if it's shit. Hell especially if it's shit.

Uhh, Shaw and David took that ship at the end of Prometheus so it would make sense that it would be in this next movie. And it's only the second movie where it's actually found already crashed.

Nah this isn't true. Physical special effects are still widely used, and the technology behind them has evolved over the years as well.

It's just easier/quicker to get a CG model to do whatever you want, compared to a physical prop where you need to build additional systems for every new action you want it to take (and find new ways of hiding the nuts and bolts of it all).

If they wanted to, they could have used a physical Alien. The technology is there. This is just easier for them.

Semantically, kinda. But Alien - Crashed Jockey Ship exploration. Aliens - seen used as a plot point in Directors Cut. Prometheus - Jockey Ship exploration. Now Covenant.

The beats of the trailer feel incredibly played out. I'm really hoping for some surprises and crucially - a character to like. For all other faults, there wasn't one character that felt substantial or likeable in Prometheus. When you're doing a 'kill them off one by one movie' that's essential.

Will be day 1 in theater for me.

Looks like they're going for the Alien 1 look with the huge xenomorph. Alien 2's xeno's were rather small in size in comparison.

All I wanted was Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender's head going on a scifi adventure. :(

That would've been more interesting than retreading the same old shit.

Then again THIS movie would be more interesting if Prometheus didn't exist. Slapping the Alien name on this Prometheus sequel won't make it stop being a Prometheus sequel.

So a group of colonists drop on a planet before a complete topological survey from automated robots? Combined with soil sediment analysis?

Because if I'm in the colony business, I'm not going to just be like "that planet has a breathable atmosphere! Deploy the colonists!!!"

But yeah I think this looks "ok" the acting looked a bit dodgy. Just having to turn my brain off due to gaping holes in logic to serve plot devices is always annoying.

Hard to get a read on this. It's Ridley so it looks stunning, but everything plot wise looks pretty paint by the numbers. Here's hoping I'm wrong and they've got a few tricks up their sleeve, and / or will add something new to the mythos. I'll be there opening weekend no matter what though.

She was on set shooting for a few days, so at the very least I would assume we'll get a flight recorder from her detailing what happened on said adventure.

Better than the first trailer, although this one maybe showed a little too much, at least they are keeping the David / Shaw storyline in the shadows.

Liked that trailer a whole lot more than the previous one; and honestly cannot see the complaint at all with the aliens shown, either in design or execution.

After nearly 40 years Giger's Alien has unsurprisingly become a bit familiar, but honestly I don't think its ever really been bettered as frankly noone around has the artistic chops to really top it. Again, no shocker, because HRG was a one-off, a legit genius in his dark, surreal way.

Come on, she will still appear. This series would not make 2 major characters from a previous installment largely irrelevant in the sequ-

Oh wait.

No they were the same size. It was the same costume as the first movie with slight modifications to feet, ribs, forearms and hands. For the head they just removed the dome and the human skull.

If there's a backburster, there really should be an asshugger.

That's where Franco comes in.

last minute changes to the script Mr Franco, say hello to my little friend the 'Ass Hugger'.

It looks closer to Prometheus than Alien as in:
Characters that should know better are still in the business of running around in alien flora and fauna land without their helmets on and then touching and squeezing spores releasing deadly plants.

So its safe to say the Deacon alien from Prometheus stowed away on the jockey ship which we all presume to be Shaw's and laid the eggs right?

Cuz writing it in such a way that this is yet ANOTHER derelict craft would be kinda goofy I think.

Cool when the trailer shows you the entire movie.

This almost never happens, even in the trailers where people try to make this happen.

If all you want out of a movie is a plot synopsis, watch Wikipedia.

(which might need to happen anyway, because this thread seems to be populated by people who liked the first movie and yet are highly confused as to what happened in it, and what this movie seems to be suggesting is happening after it. Which probably says a fair amount about how well Prometheus actually communicated any of the ideas it was trying to deliver)

Love the first Alien, liked Aliens, even liked Prometheus. All aboard the hype train. Totally down with Prometheus 2: Alien Edition. Hopefully it's more easily digestible this time around. Prometheus had awesome ideas, they just were not presented very well.

Much better than the first trailer.

Though I am kinda-but shouldn't be- surprised it's looking like it'll have more of an action tone to it. Still, I'm hoping Scott can rock it. And if this really is Prometheus 2, it'll retroactively enhance it.

Batman v Superman didn't retroactively improve Man of Steel

I just feel utter indifference to this trailer, and movie, so far. Certainly has a nice cast with some decent chemistry based on that Last Supper snippet. Visuals look nice, aside for some unfinished VFX, and the tone seems consistent with Prometheus I guess.

But I'm just not excited, nor am I hating the movie as of now. Could end up being a surprise as a solid Alien movie, but the apparent narrative retreading which is being done simply does nothing for me. Cool fan service I guess, but the franchise deserves better than that.

Probably will just rent or watch on Amazon/Netflix since I'm picky about what movies I actually see in theaters now.

Man, lots of party poopers ITT. As long as this isn't an incoherent pile of polished shit like Prometheus, I'll be happy. But then, I'm just an Alien fanboy who's looking for nothing more than people getting killed by monsters, wrapped up in a simple but believable sci-fi plot.
