I'm not sure they had the stories ready per se. The leakers were ready to go today after that speech, that much is sure. If the leakers worked together so they could act as multiple sources and leak to multiple papers and then told those papers that they gave the same information to their competitors, then they can be assured that the story will run almost immediately.
