I can't complain about the reviews because it's a 10 out of 10 for me personally, so it makes sense that it is for others too.

However I'm sure some people won't like the game as much as reviews indicate. The world truly is huge and largely empty, you can't get around that. There's a ton of traversal, like any open-world game. If open-world isn't your thing the game might bore you to tears at times. Framerate is a disaster dropping into the single digits at times, and the visuals are honestly pretty poor outside of the brilliant character designs - the IQ is horrendous and the textures are really, really low-res for a game in 2017. It feels like the game design is just too much for the weak hardware it's on, and that's something you can NEVER say about Nintendo games, which are usually very carefully designed around the hardware they have.

And a lot of the breaks from Zelda convention will upset some people too, as will the lack of a truly compelling story. But I love Zelda, I love the first Zelda in particular, and I love open world games. So to me it was just a delicious dish of all the things I like in gaming. It's a massive, massive leap forward from past 3D Zeldas, there's just no denying it. Moment to moment it's just a joy to play, a real joy.

But will there be a backlash to the hype? Yes, yes there will. And I expect it'll start tomorrow when everyone starts getting their hands on the game.

Jesus.

I was afraid of all of these things. I have a feeling this game is gonna receive a HUGE backlash in six months.

Because it's a game made for speedruns

Geez can't people just play the game to play the game a little first? I can't imagine waiting six years for a game like this then trying to consume it as quickly as possible. People can enjoy games however they want I guess, I just can't relate! Going to be playing this in little bursts for the next 2 months probably...

2.4GB

Download is slow as fuck too.

Edit: it's almost 2 hours since I started the game + patch download + install in near ideal conditions and it's finally done.
OMG it needs an additional 15 mins to install the patch I am going to die.

Thanks.

And try to hang in there!

seeing as how spirit orbs(?) are used to
gain either hearts or stamina
is there a way to
respec
? is it possible to
choose all hearts or all stamina? or is there a limit for each
?

You can
respec yes
, look around
in the village that has the scientist with the blue flame.

Griss:
Is the Hylian Shield unbreakable like the Master Sword?

mines at 45%, just chilling to the eshop theme right now, so good!

so glad I decided to just buy it for Wii U, the game is basically the same, I can live with low framerate, its not a big deal for me.

I just finished installing but I guess I'll just play after work tomorrow.

Yeah I decided that the Wii U version is good enough for me, the slightly lower frame rate and other stuff doesn't matter to me as much as actually playing the game lol. I originally bought a Wii U for 2 games, Bayo 2 and Zelda, so I'm gonna finish what I started :P

Just came home from a Gamestop midnight launch with my Wii U copy. Am crying because I promised my friend we'd play together in a little Switch launch party after she got off work. Just batting the game case around while it installs. I'm a good friend.
Kill me.

Why are you taking the opinion of one random person before proclaiming doom? Have you played the game yourself? I certainly haven't, and I'm not shook. Christ people are dramatic sometimes.

It'll receive a backlash from a certain subsection of Zelda fans, but the general consensus isn't going to change.

Confirmation bias.

I feel like all backlash concerning performance, if it's as bad as I'm fearing, will be entirely deserved. I wish more games got shit for low framerates in particular. Maybe if they did, we'd start seeing less awfully performing games.

It's always like this with one guy having the game early on GAF. Everyone will play the game for themselves soon.

tbh, a speedrunner needs to know everything about the game to make a great speedrun, so basically, they have played the game a lot

I have a 100 up 100 down connection and the download took me nearly 2 hrs for 10 gb's on WiiU

Now estimated 30 minute install -_-

An open world Zelda probably isn't a game want to play on a handheld but shit like MK8 will be incredible in portable mode.

Wow, is this LE huge due to that [very nice] Switch case. Not often the game you carry out is bigger than the system.

Can't wait to start it!
Sorry Horizon, be back soon.

Is everyone playing yet?

I've been playing for a couple days and I just did something pretty cool and I need to talk to someone about it.

This game is going to be tough to discuss on here because it is so huge and everyone can be at entirely different places at any point of the game.

Yes, it's called the Zelda Cycle.

I'll soon not be terribly alone in my love for Skyward Sword.

You're not, because I too loved Skyward Sword.

I too love Skyward Sword! My favorite Zelda so far (without taking BotW into consideration -- yet!)

You have never been, my favourite Zelda game.

Here here. Started my Zelda journey on it, and still love it to bits.

Lol, the game installed, but then it automatically turn on. Nothing but love for my friend preventing me from pushing the button and whisking myself away on an adventure. Lawd Jesus.

Yea the framerate on the Wii U version is much worse than I expected. It dipped to single digits when fighting 3 bokoblins in that area up the hill from the Temple. It's really bad, but I'm still enjoying the game so far.

Decent speedrunners will scrape every bit of content out of this game to find potential tech to help a run, don't worry about 'em. :)

To be honest this game may only really have an Any% category, if it is as big as it sounds.

That said it will also probably be the only "console" Zelda where an Any% run doesn't take multiple hours, too, so that will be nice.

I won't be too surprised if speedrunners works backwards this time with how the game is structured. If you really can run straight ass towards the end of the game it's possible that anything X distance from the starting point won't even be considered unless you actually need certain progression unlocks to beat the game.

Hey guys do we now know exactly where BoTW falls in the timeline? Maybe a spoiler tagged answer or a PM? :D

I don't know shit about Zelda lore but there's a cutscene in this game with a major npc saying
"Whether skyward bound, lost in time or shrouded in the darkness of twilight" so I assume this takes place after Twilight Princess?

I also found a stone tablet referencing Princess Ruto from OOT (in this game she's a Zora princess from long, long ago.

Trying to decide if I should wait for my console and download the game or go get a physical copy. Does the digital version have better load times as it's not reading from a cartridge? I can't find and Switch comparisons only comparisons with the WiiU version.

Someone wanna clue me in where the quilted shirt is on the plateau? I'm uh...kind of a completionist, so I don't wanna miss anything.
