Guillermo Del Toro was right when he said this new series direction greatly resembled his At the Mountains of Madness film.

This entire idea is straight out of that story, and the sketches on the wall basically resemble Lovecraft creatures from that story.

Holy shit, I must have missed this. I wonder what other elements of AtMoM have inspired it. I guess humans being created by Engineers could be the giant penguins created by the Elder Things for...specific...purposes.

I thought that for a second, but the face, specifically the aquiline nose, does look vaguely Engineer-ish.

I never knew that Alien and Aliens took place on the same planet, and I've seen both movies many, many times.

I don't mean to sound like a dick but this seems like it's near impossible to miss especially since there's an entire scene dedicated around telling Ripley that people have been living on the planet from the first movie for decades now.

LOL, it's just my favorite movie ever. It's one where I put in my Blu-ray (DVD before lol) at least once a month. If I catch it on TV I have to watch regardless of what I'm doing. I don't know it's just that good to me. The perfect movie.

I liked Prometheus even with it's flaws and I REALLY hope this can be a true prequel to the Alien series and it turns out amazing. I want to believe.

Apparently they did use a lot of practical effects for this one as evidenced by some of the leaked materials a few months back. Now the big question is, are we certain if that shot at the end is CG or practical? Maybe both?

Anybody save the leaks of the neomorph prop pics ?(everywhere I looked got pulled down for copywrite claim). Now I'm wondering if the drawings on the walls behind the bust and maquette weren't concept art but actually props for this lab of horrors.

I always assume that Prometheus was a bigger hit than it actually was. Don't get me wrong, it did well for an R rated sci-fi film released in the summer but finishing at $126m in the US it didn't exactly blow the doors off the place.

It has the sharp peaked head, rounded/pinched face and more slender, non-biomechanical body of a Deacon. It's very consistent with Deacon concept art.

Kindly explain to me if I'm misinterpreting it visually. Or I may have missed where the artists stated that that's the traditional Xenomorph.

That's what I remember being said back when this movie was about to come out. The Frieze isn't a perfect representation of it, but I don't think it was supposed to be the Deacon. The Deacon was more or less an accident due to David's tinkering.

Of course, the traditional Alien is now, apparently, not a creation of the Engineers either so who knows what the fuck that thing is supposed to represent, really. But I thought I'd remembered hearing an artist on the picture state the frieze on the wall was supposed to be an image of the Alien that we're used to.

No. Considering the deacon isn't quite a xeno yet either, it probably wasn't 100% accurate to begin with.

I have the suspicion that the new movie will only make things even more murky and convoluted. I've got to hand it to Ridley, he's at least been able to bring a sense of mystery and intrigue back to the series; we have no idea what's going on or what in the hell he's thinking.
