The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild |OT| A Link from the Past

The shrine with the buttons you press to tilt the stage to move the balls was pretty cool. I'm pretty sure I went through exactly what the developer wanted where I got to the end, noticed I could pick up the ball and then figured out how to get that chest. And the reward was worth it.

From what I've heard, the press and a lot of people absolutely hate that puzzle. And I don't blame them because that sort of puzzle is inherently quite cruel by design.

But what is cool about this implementation is how many insane ways you can play with it. Doing it "legit" doesn't seem to be the point, the point seems to be to break the rules.

I actually ended up trying to hit the ball into the goal. Maddening that it actually worked.

So I've been playing the WiiU version since yesterday, just finished up my first sorta proper dungeon (specifically the one in
Zora's Domain, that funky elephant beast
)
Holy shit, that entire bit was just so damn cool, the puzzle solving and movement can feel so free and loose at times that I'm not always sure if I'm doing things the "right" way or if i'm finding ways outside the box to approach some bits and pieces, the toolset afforded to Link here really stresses that.

Why are the horses in the Hyrule Field area in particular such gits? I spent 20 minutes pursuing my desired Black Horse with glorious white mane, chased it into a river where it got snagged on a bit of land that allowed me to continually mount it to no avail, I started wolfing down any stamina increasing things I could to try and keep on the fiend, eventually he bucked me off far enough that Link sank into the river stamina-less and I begrudgingly accepted that I should try and find a second horse elsewhere.
WHEN WILL YOU LET ME IN? LET ME LOVE YOU HORSE?!

If you read the diary
and can't find the missing ingredient, read it again after a while - he gives you another tip but it's still not super obvious, not essential either
I got another hint from him about where to find the final ingredient after searching to find raw meat. But there also is a hint in the diary entry itself about what the ingredient is.

Do people talk in this game or is it all gibberish like that first guy you meet?

Not getting the 98/100 for this game at all. Starting areas is boring as F**K.

It doesnt seem anything like that awesome trailer after the PR event for switch.

It gets a lot better after you leave the Plateau that's for sure.

As I said in the other thread it gets way better. Normal dialogue isn't voiced only cutscenes.

Total noob question but **** it, I gots to know.

Whenever there is a weapon to pick up, two numbers are shown. For example, I just came across a simple Boko Club and it shows 2 numbers, [3]>[4]. I'm sure it is simple but can someone please explain to me what those numbers mean. I appreciate it.

I believe that the 3 is your current weapons power, the 4 is the club's power

Your equipment stats versus the new one.

A lot of the previewers said that they weren't necessarily feeling the game at the beginning, but apparently the game just starts to get going around 5 hours in. I'm just enjoying exploring, it's like meditation in video game form.

3 is your current weapon's damage per hit. 4 is the amount of damage the weapon you picked up will do per hit.

Found out if you put blue chu chu jelly in a fire it will make red chu chu jelly which will explode if you strike it after throwing it on an enemy.

Yeah I found that out after trying to cook it and missing the pot. X(

Also - that rolling ball puzzle shrine in Hateno Village is fucking ridiculous man. Even the method to try and cheese it is brutal because of how finicky the motion controls are. I can't imagine trying to actually roll that ball through that whole maze.

Just starting
I see temple of time and I think ocarina of time
I see that bridge and I think Twlight Princess

🤔🤔🤔🤔

Game is amazing so far :D

Hmm okay, I pretty much ran in the opposite direction of the marker once I had the option to leave the starting area. I guess I'll go back to the main quest, I thought the tutorial stuff was over.

It's no tutorial per se. I guess there also other means to use the seeds. I did just follow the way to the first village and it was very obvious.

It's time to eat..I mean, play more Zelda!

What do you mean by this? Are people so lazy these days that they can't read and must rely on VA?

How can you miss the pot? The "cook" button ensures that everything will go into the pot.

I hate that I want to play this game so badly and I don't own a Wii U and have no plans to buy a Nintendo Switch.

One game isn't enough to justify the purchase. Sure there are other games that seem good and maybe in the future I'll get pulled in but buying Nintendo in Australia doesn't inspire me with confidence these days...

i just beat a miniboss or something. i really wasn't ready for it, but i just kept running circles around him and throwing cubebombs backwards. i got his toenails??

without an XP system it doesn't seem like I'm progressing as much as something like horizon or Skyrim.

Is story a major element of this game, like do you get cutscenes and other story sequences as suggested in the trailer? It feels more like a Dark Souls or Nioh type game at the beginning, so is that how it is all the way through or does the story become more involved later on (eg events that happened back when civilisation wasnt destroyed)?

I'm not a big Zelda guy, but first 30 min of this is very engaging, looks great, and feels great.

Love the art style and colors. Looks fantastic on the small screen.

Cutscenes start appearing after you finish the plateau.

Ahhhhhh, when I try and shoot my bow it now goes to first person! I have no idea how this happened, anyone know what I need to do to change it back?

Yes. There is quite a lot of story. You also have a lot of side quests with their own little stories. The NPCs in the game are awesome in the villages.

OK thanks for the replies, sounds like I need to get past the start area for the story elements to begin.

Impressed by the Switch hardware, its very cool to be able to go between handheld and TV mode.

This is the 3D Zelda I've been dreaming about since 1998 and even earlier. A living, breathing world. I love it so much.

Played for most of the day and it feels like I hardly made any progress...mostly because I just got distracted by other stuff.

The game does a really good job of rewarding the player for exploring and experimenting. There's only been a handful of times when I've felt that deviating from the path wasn't worth the effort. If anything, I had to stop myself going further.

It is such an expertly crafted open world. It feels alien in its haphazard construction, but this gives it interest and diversity a more familiar location could not. It's ever so slightly mental and all the better for it.

Hands down the best fantasy based open world ever created. I mean, not even close.
