Played non stop for nearly 7 hours so far. This game is addicting. It has exceeded the hype.

Btw set up the parental controls app if you guys want to track your play time.

This game seems really cool so far after playing for a few hours.

However, even after playing for an extended period of time, I simply can't use to the controls. I don't know, nothing about the control scheme feels natural to me. I'm constantly getting confused at times at which button I should be pressing at most times.

For example, the button you use to sprint is also used as the cancel button in game, even though the menus use the jump button to cancel/go back. It feels weird having a button to shoot the bow, but have a different button to also throw items.

I wish the control scheme was a bit more standard, or at least felt more natural.

Just started. Got an hour and a half in. I plan to play much more tomorrow. In today's session a Bokoblin I got into a skirmish with set himself on fire and died. Ganon's finest.

That's kind of what I worried. Maybe it'll be worth it more often as the game pushes forward

Just do them when you feel like it, but i've gotten rupees and other good stuff from them.

Rupees are really nice to find in this game.

The bokoblins are idiots and it's great.

Yup, this is probably my only legit criticism of the game. I'm still trying to get used to the controls and I constantly do the wrong thing. The button mapping doesnt feel intuitive.

My Video Review of Breath of the Wild is LIVE

I'm going to hide now

Regarding SPOILERS:

I do not feature anything that I consider a spoiler, i.e. story elements, boss battles, cutscenes, secret locations/items/cool stuff, etc.

HOWEVER,

I do know that some GAF members are very sensitive about this stuff, so I'm going to point out a couple of things from the video that might qualify as a spoiler:

1. I play music (no video) from a location in the game for 30 seconds to prove one of my points. There is an in video disclaimer in case you want to skip ahead.

2. There is video of one of the locations in the game that you can go to after you leave the plateau.

3. I use about 10 seconds of a cutscene which features a character from the January 2017 trailer when talking about the voice acting.

it's really nothing but if you're real sensitive you might want to wait until finishing the game until watching.

hope you like it!

It's just habits from other games, I had the same issue, you get used to it eventually and then it's just as good as any.

Agree 100% I hope they add button mapping to a future update. This is Nintendo though so I'm not going to hold my breath. I have been very critical of Nintendo the last few years but this game really is fucking brilliant.

Took forever to download it and then install it on the Wii U plus the patch.

Got the first shrine done.

Heading to bed tho.

So far everything has just been wow and refreshing for a Zelda title... No more hand holding... lots of experimenting already in the small area I explored. God it's great to have Zelda back.

When I use the bow now it zooms in and goes first person and I'm not sure how to revert it, anyone know?

Played for about 10 hours and got nowhere yet loved every moment of it. This game is incredible.

Never have I felt an open world feel so alive and asking to be explored.

These controls are literally killing me. I'm too use to standard Zelda controls that's I'm struggling to adapt.

Ive jumped to my death way to often.

Oh shit, where's this shrine? I must've missed it going through there

It's in West Necluda near...

It's near that Dueling Tower Shiekah Tower for that region. It's down by where the river flows through the underpart of the mountain... You have to hug the wall in order to get there. It was the first shrine I used that shrine tracking thing for.

Now I hope I didn't talk up the optional puzzle in that shrine now too much, lol. I thought it was clever, though.

So mini-map on or off? I'd prefer off because I like the idea of using my other senses to memorize the environment instead of staring at chevrons and waypoints. But my question is: is the game balanced to having it turned off?

The game is balanced pretty damn solidly on Pro mode. If you want to check a way point, use the scope. Everything is pretty readable and more reactive from a gameplay perspective.

Does anyone know how to check how long you have played?

Set up parental control app, here's mine:

I dont know if this has been mentioned yet, but I switched my wii u output to 1080i and I haven't had many framerate issues at all. Just a heads up.

My copy came in the mail at 10:15am. I've been playing almost non stop since then with maybe 2 hours of time spent not played. It's 1am and I just put the controller down for the night. If I weren't so sleepy I'd keep going.

This game is so good.

I came across a Bokoblin camp today that had a wild boar rampaging around the place. He killed two of the Bokoblins before they took him down, so I came in and mopped up the stragglers with my spear, took their loot and a nice boar steak :P

Omg the music outside of the
keh namut
shrine is the music at the beginning of the e3 trailer! playing during sunrise too.

This is too much.

Man the bosses are no joke in this. Going against the water guy with no bow and 4 hearts and the second phase seems impossible to do. It's so easy to make a simple mistake and get one shot. I'm gonna go stack up on bows(ugh) and maybe get another heart container.

My god this game... within the first few steps outside I already discovered and did things I could never do in any other games especially with such ease and there's a true sense of discovery.

It also looks and runs amazing in handheld mode, it's so freaking cool being able to finally play a game with such a huge scope and great graphics on a handheld.

Also, I don't know the exact location but its called Lake Bartrea or something like that. There's a log with 2 indestrucible blocks and then another block nearby. Is there some puzzle here I'm missing or are the devs fucking with me? This is near the stable on the way to Hyrule Castle. On another note, guardians are really easy to kill. Even the roaming ones, the shield parry does 1/2 their health.

Great to hear! Pro it is then.

The only thing to worry about is that you won't have weather predictions on screen which can be quite nasty at some moments. In addition, you lose the sound bar, but generally you can build a gradient for which surfaces generate which levels of sounds much like in Thief games and the surfaces are pretty readable as well for what affects them.

But otherwise on Pro mode, I'm pretty damn sure that this is the greatest open world game ever made in terms of immersion and gameplay depth.

Completely addicted tot his game. I figured the hype would be impossible to live up to but I think it is doing it. The only down was the motion control shrine.

So strategies for dealing with cyclops/giants?

I'm by the area with the shrine puzzle with three of the orb indentations in the ground, not sure how the Giants figure into it yet though (three giant brothers is the name of the quest btw)

it's fine off, you lose some features but eh who needs 7 graphs
